CP's Most Underrated?

Sollybeast's avatar

Every year, people flock to the Point in hopes of riding the biggest, newest, shiniest, screamiest thing. With this happening every year, it's inevitable that smaller and/or older attractions will fall by the wayside- despite offering the same delightful experience they always have.

What's your favorite underrated thing to ride or see at CP? I think mine might be Thunder Canyon. In spite of it being New For 1986 (wow, I was FIVE then), I've always had a blast on it, to the point that I always make sure to schedule my trip after the water rides are open for the season. Sometimes on slow days I've even gotten a reride or two- something I can only say about one other ride in my entire CP history (Dodgem is the other, if you're curious. :P ). I know all rides come and go, but the day the Canyon stops soaking people is the day I will be a very sad Beastie indeed.

Proud 5th Liner and CP fan since 1986.

Gemini for sure. It always seems to be overlooked, but in the back, that drop is one of my favorites on any roller coaster.

CP Top 5: 1) Steel Vengeance 2) Maverick 3) Magnum 4) Raptor 5) Millennium

CP jail. It's really not that bad, if you ask nice they bring you free water in a big cup.

New for 2024- Wicked Twister Plus

Wicked Twister by far. Not trying to be biased, but seeing the reactions of people who get off that thing for the first time is priceless.

Wicked Twister, by a long shot. Brought a friend last year for CoasterMania and he wouldn't even ride it because he said it looks "dumb"... Couldn't convince him otherwise. Such a fun ride, wish I could still fit on it. Another one is Troika. That's just such a fun ride, glad to see a few other parks getting one this year.

ROUNDABOUND.

Calypso/Tiki Twirl. I squeeze my big self into it every visit.

In terms of things to see; the beach and the waterfront by the Marina. For a lot of guests who don't stay at a resort or for anyone without a boat, I find these to be "undiscovered territory". It's understandable, though; if you only visit once or twice a year it's difficult to find the time to slow down and explore the peninsula. I certainly never did, until my wife and I got passes together for the first time about 14 years ago.

To ride? Cedar Downs. I hope this classic never finds itself on the chopping block.

Promoter of fog.

There was a similar post recently asking a similar question. My reply was the sky ride in the evening when the lights come on

First ride; Magnum 1994

I agree. it's a great roller coaster with a short line. In 6 years of working at the park, the most I've ever waited for this ride was 35 minutes. After 7 pm, the wait for the ride is no more than 15 minutes during the week. Another ride that is underrated is Cedar Downs. Every time I had some off time, I had to ride this ride.

Had this thread been created a year ago I would have said Mean Streak by a mile. I loved the view from the lift hill seeing the whole park and all the water, especially when the sun was setting. The roughness didn't bother me much like it did for most others. Thankfully the lift hill will be in the same place just taller!

Currently WT or Gemini, but overall I would go with Gemini being the most underrated for the reasons that have been stated above. Hell I'll throw in Windseeker as well. I always find it funny but understandable that many of the friends I bring to the point will ride everything but that.

Cedar Downs, no question.

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

I'm sure you'll be seeing me then :)

I've got a few I feel are underrated. I will agree with Thunder Canyon, not being biased, as it's a different experience every time. Sky Ride, because of the amazing views, CPLERR for being a relaxing ride with a lot of nostalgia. As far as thrill rides, Gemini, not a terrifying ride, just plain fun.

I can see the CP&LE RR being underrated as a ride, but as a form of transport to/from Frontiertown on a hot day, you can't beat it. Since I worked in Frontiertown, I got to know some of the platform crew pretty well while waiting around for the next train.

My underrated ride is SkyHawk, such a simple concept, so much airtime.

Another relaxing ride is the Antique Cars. Perhaps it's just me and Frontiertown is my favorite area of the park. One underrated ride is the Blue Streak. I know it's not the biggest or the scariest, but that ride has plenty of airtime and overall good ride.

The Giant Wheel. Great views both day and night and especially at night. Also very relaxing.

My entry for this is always Thunder Canyon. Love that ride. Wicked Twister too in the very back, if talking just about the roller coaster collection.

In the park: Cedar Downs or the Glass Blowing Show/Shop

Out of the Park: The beach itself. Aside from events they've had out there, it's popularity has immensely increased, but I'm waiting to see more and more people enjoy such a great beach.

Corkscrew, Power Tower, Magnum, & Monster/ Witches Wheel Crew 2011

I have always said that Tilt-A-Whirl is such an underrated ride. It's good for young kids and ...ahem, kids with more history. Great to mix the little ones with the grown ups on a ride.

Live E has some good shows and the air conditioning can be a nice break on a hot day.

All wheels Extreme is a great show to catch.

My kids love the updates petting zoo ( The Barnyard).

The cedar Point museum is also worth a quick walk through.
