CP TR 6/27

My 16 year old son and I went to CP today, his second of the season, my 3rd.

I won't go into major details, as for me, CP is always a good time. My husband says I always look 10 years younger after spending a day riding coasters. *grin*

We got there about 9:45 am and noticed the GP was already filing in. I must've misjudged ERT again. Wicked Twister was, Raptor was opened instead, but with people filing in and hitting it first thing, the line was steady but longish. We headed straight to MF.

Three train operation, and the line was a mere 45 minutes. We waited for the front since my son has only ridden the front once. It appeared that the red train was running the fastest, and we were lucky enough to get it. I like having MF as the first coaster of the day because that first drop is such a rush. Got plenty of airtime on the hills, and the crew was running pretty well. Little stacking.

As we got off, the Freeway line was opened and we got stamped for the 3-4 time period. Then we hit Power Tower. I've been riding the drop side to try to get used to it. The slow crawl to the top always freaks me out. But for my 3rd ride of the season, I actually kept my eyes opened and didn't scream on the way down! I'm proud of myself. We immediately went back around to ride the space shot side, which had a 5 minute wait, vs. the 15 minute wait for the drop side.

Corkscrew was running smoother than I'm used to, and Magnum seemed to have "square wheels" according to my son. It was pretty rough, the roughest I've felt it. It could just have been that train. We didn't ride again to find out. We also hit Troika and Chaos.

Gemini was racing, but as soon as we were ready to load, they emptied out the blue train, said it would be about 10 minutes, and left the second blue train sitting on the brake run. As soon as a ride op appeared with a bucket and some cleaning stuff, it became obvious that someone had gotten sick. We rode the red train which seemed especially slow today.

By this time we were hungry and had another fine meal at Midway Market. It's great getting $2 off with our Joe Cool memberships.

When we finished, we noticed the line for Raptor started at the stairway. Well, heck! That called for two rides. One in the front, and then in the back. From there we headed to MF to use our Freeway. It's a very convenient system even if it does irritate the people who'd been waiting in the longer line. Our wait was less than 10 minutes, and we got the red train again.

We headed to Mean Streak next, and like the last two times I rode it this season, it was smoother, but slower on the first part of the course. It does pick up after the midcourse Brake..

We decided to check on Wicked Twister again, hitting the space shot side of Power Tower on the way. I've never gotten as much air time on the space shot side as I did this second ride. It seemed we'd just hit the top and shot back down so quickly. I was a good 4 inches off my seat with my shoulders bumped hard against the OSTR's.

WT was still down, but I saw a table with Janice Withrow sitting there. I approached, and she immediately recognized me from Timbersfest at MiA, stood and shook hands. I introduced my son, and she talked about reading my TR for Timbersfest on Coasterbuzz, and how glad she was I had such a good time. She also said that WT is having electrical problems and they are working closely with Intamin to resolve the problems.

We took a spin on Disaster Transport, (a suprising 25 minute wait...people are liking this ride again!) then played the Scatterball game. I came away with only three strings of beads, but Ian won a dolphin. Since WT didn't look like it would be up anytime soon, although we did see maintenance hauling out water dummies earlier, we decided to call it a day and get home at a reasonable hour.

Even tho WT was down, we rode all the coasters we wanted to, with the longest wait 45 minutes for MF, and many rides 15 minutes or less. All in all, a good day! ------------------

I agree that Magnum is very rough this year, much more so than it has been in the past. Occasionally I can get a good ride but lately I've been getting off Magnum with a headache.

So WT was down when you got there? A hotel guest I talked to said they rode it this morning right away and it shut down later. Towards close they were working on the rear spike again, so it must be having double trouble.
Lately WT has opened almost everyday. It's just a matter of how long it will be open. ;)

My son said he saw it running from the causeway (I was driving and missed it going up the spike). It may have been opened for ERT...we didn't get there until 9:45 am. But by 10:30 it was down

I did notice a large brownish colored panel on the back spike, and twice during the day saw a mechanic on the spike.
