CP security

Yeah they let you know...after he had been detained. I remember cause all of a sudden I had to run wagons too. But I have to admit that it was worth it, cause that was absolutely one of the most crazy things that I have ever heard of! Funny thing was after that incident, no one seemed to care about that chain anymore, which I thought was rather funny! I guess it gave wagonboy a chance to see some of the nicer offices though, right wagonboy? :)

Im glad they took the liberty of telling someone i only sat in what they call "the waiting room" , which is a folding chair and a table. This is why i need a radio all the time Jenn img src="/thepoint/cpplace/images/smile1.gif" border="0", could you imagine what i woulda said on my way in? Oh well thats a story for another day on with some details.

Behind the power tower and under the corkscrew is where us foods employees refer to as "Gypsy Camp" This is where Zone 4 wagons and the nightly vendors use for storage of the wagons and products.

All of the sudden one morning im told that the gate that leads back there must be locked at all times. This came from Kinsel i was told. The only catch is its a 3 key lock, those of you who work there and know what this is then no explaination needed, if you dont work there too bad. Needless to say myself, the area at the time, was the only one of the 60 some wagon/vending people that had this key.

So push came to shove they said the chain and lock must stay, i said im not locking my employees in or out of the location nor am i staying to play guard.

The reason for the lock in the first place i was told is a few seasons ago people were sneaking in from the hotels.

So uhm, with at least 10 people in and out of there at all times plus the 2 guards that stand at the Power Tower i felt this wasn't really well thought out.

They said leave it on, i said if they put it on im taking it off and putting it somewhere where it wont go back on.

Needless to say i at the time lost that battle.

Keyword is "at the time" Cuz the next day it was a done issue as quick as it became the news for the day.

Im not sure what was said behind closed doors about the issue other then what i told them. Jenn if youd like to add your 2 cents that would be great, if ive said enough, which i hope isnt too much we will leave it at that.

The 2000 season will be my third with the Cedar Point Police Department. I'll try to answer some of your questions, and clear up a few things.

- Is CPPD a REAL police department?

Yes. The department has been a REAL police department for the past 32 years. It receives it's powers from the Ohio Revised code, and the ordinances of Sandusky. The certified officers are sworn-in by the Sandusky City Manager.

- Why do only some of the officers carry guns?

In Ohio, you must be at least 21 years of age to be a police officer.
You must also complete the 600 hour Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission Basic Police Academy. (I'm in the middle of the academy right now...it isn't easy!) All of the officers that carry guns at CP have met these requirements. This group is made up of full-time officers, as well as seasonal officers. The officers that do not carry guns have either not turned 21, or completed the academy. Most of these officers are criminal justice majors.

- Why does CP need a police department?

The department handles thousands of calls each year. If Cedar Point did not have a police department, the Sandusky Police Department would have to handle all of the major calls. There would be a few problems with this. First, the taxpayers would have to pay for more officers to be on duty. Second, there would be fewer officers to respond to calls. This would have a bad effect on the level of safety at the park. The billions of dollars of property are of course, a major concern.

- What do the officers do during the winter?

In addition to watching over the property, the officers focus on recruiting and training. They do more, but i'm not going to go into detail.

The department handles calls in the park, the parking lots, camper village, the hotels, employee housing, and the Causeway. (Or whatever they are calling it this week.) The department also responds to call ?? ??? ????????? ??? ??? ????? ?? ??????? ?? ??? ???????? ?? ??? ????? ?????????????????? ??????? ??? ??? ????? ?????????? ???? ??????????????????? ??? ???? ???? ??? ?????? ?? ?????? ?? ????? ? ????????? ??? ???? ???? ??? ?????? ?? ?????? ?? ????? ? ???

The pet farmers called on security a few times for some drug busts! Those kids think we can't see them back there..but we can.

Kodiak,

Thank you for the good explanation of the CP Police Department. I, for one, am always pleased to see them on patrol and so visible in the park.

My one bad experience was visiting Bay Harbor Inn a few winters ago; for a nice drive that day, we took the Chaussee instead of the causeway, and they pulled me over as I turned right onto Perimeter Rd to go to Bay Harbor, and charged me the 50 cent toll (no big deal, since Bay Harbor refunds it with purchase), but the officer indicated, "You should have turned down to the toll booth insetad."

Anyway, that experience prompts me to ask this question (probably not the best thread to post this in, but here goes). What exactly is the relationship between CP, the CPPD, and the private homes along the Chaussee? Is the Chaussee part of Cedar Point? Part of Sandusky? Etc.

And, if the 50 cent causeway fee is really for the causeway, why isn't parking $5.50 if you enter from the Chaussee? (I know the answer to that one--the Causeway needs maintenance, and the residents certainly and understandably want to avoid traffic jams on the Chaussee.)

I do hope the Chaussee always remains an option, though, because it provides a nice drive and often some gorgeous sunsets.

Sorry for the long post here; I'll go now. Again, my real question is the relationship between that road and CP.
