OKay this is sort of a random topic but it popped into my head and I thought it was worth while. I was wondering what CP does in the ways of security for the on & off season?

They're more than just security. They have an actual police department with officers that have to get the same training as municiple officers, and some carry guns.

Well, most of them are made of steel.
Does anyone remember the recent rash of vandalism at, Carowinds or SFAm (help me out here)?

There was also a few kids who broke into BGW and caused some damage to shops and stuff. Someone said they tried to start Apollo's Chariot, but I highly doubt they had much luck! :) I guess they went back a second time and the security caught them...

What could be better than Y2K @ Cedar Point - America's Rockin' Roller Coast?

BGW... that was it. I knew it was somewhere in the west central part of the country! :)

You go much farther East, you'd better have your Speedo on... it's about 20 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. ;)

Don't forget the millions of dollars of boats at the Marina, plus the resort hotels and campground, all on a fairly isolated penninsula. CP needs a real police dept. to not only protect their own property, but also the property of all the residents on the penninsula in boats and hotels. The CP police make me feel safe and secure while visiting.

There was an article in the Lorain Morning Journal a few years ago. It said that if residents who live on the Chaussee call 911 for an emergency, the Cedar Point Police are usually the first ones on the scene.
That's just my 2 cents.

I don't know of any recent rashes of vandalism at Carowinds, but I know there is a whole lot of it there. Take the Goldrusher for instance, there are cuss words all over the trains and the walls in the station, just what the GP wants to see. While I was at CP I noticed very little, if any, and at WDW, well, I saw none there.

The Cedar Point Police Department is an actual chartered law enforcement agency. They have the same powers of arrest as any municipal PD, and can cite you into Sandusky Municipal Court. My brother-in-law was a CP cop for many years. They have the same Peace Officer training and weapons qualifications as any other PD. Don't mess with them.

My question is why some C.P. police officers carry guns while others do not? I always figured that those that don't carry firearms are police officers in training. Kind of like an apprenticeship training for someone that would like to pursue a criminal justice career.

Some are seasonal employees, others are full-time police officers. I'm not familiar with that portion of Ohio law, but I don't think just anyone can carry a gun.

I think security was there to give those of us who worked in wagons a hard time, not to mention try to arrest me on the clock and on top of it not let me tell anyone in my zone or at least my sups know they were taking me in.

the gun issue is not as clear cut as seasonal or non-seasonal. We have seasonal officers who are bonded (carry guns). Often they are also employed at another law enforcement agency, and don't mind the added income.
