CP Recycling Program?

Perhaps Ohio should do what Michigan does, and start a deposit program. I think MI's deposit/recycle rate is in the high 90%'s.

I think that is one of the better laws Michigan has passed.

Hey, we passed medical marijuana too! :)

I was reminded of that when I recently bought some sixers of Short's to bring back to my friends in Cleveland. Ouch! Now I just need to get all of my friends to drive their empties back to MI ;)

The path you tread is narrow, and the drop is sheer and very high.

My daughter and I noticed that on our trip to the point in early June. and just last week at Dorney she counted over 15 recycling bins through out the park. So it's not cedar fair (a corporate decision) it must be an in park decision.

No Ride Man CP's garbage goes straight into the Erie county landfill.
No sorting. You would be shocked at the volume of garbage getting hauled out weekly!
There is no recycling program in place at cp to speak of no matter what you are told or are led to believe.

I found this in the Sandusky Register. It seems Erie County will/eventually have seperate recycling pickup.

Was just thinking that last night when I read this post. Amazing what a 10 cent deposit on most of the can / bottle drinks does for recycling.

Ah, so they are their own waste processor then. I'm not surprised.

No, I would not be shocked. The fact that I would not be shocked by the volume of garbage hauled out of that park is also the reason that it would be really difficult for them to justify a dramatic increase in their waste hauling process in order to handle recycling bins that by and large end up full of trash. It would be a very large expense because of the size of the operation, with practically no benefit, as the recyclable materials that the park generates the most of have virtually no market value. The ability to recycle a material does not necessarily make it cost effective to do so. If it neither reduces their operating costs nor generates revenue, then why bother? They can just recycle the big stuff, like 30-year-old freefall rides. :)

If they were using a private waste handler, it might make sense for that waste handler to do separation. But for the park? They're not in the garbage business. They pay someone to take care of that for them.

I thought that one of the coaster shows that was filmed at the park a few years ago, showed how they dispose of the garbage? The camera man went along with the garbage truck all the way to the landfill.

If I remember right, cedarpoint has there own garbage truck(s).

I think I have that show on dvd somewhere. I will have to look and see.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Heck, they must fill two or three garbage trucks with what is left in the parking lot after everyone leaves every night. I'm amazed at what slobs people can be.

They used to have garbage cans all over the parking lot, untill people started stealing them. Not sure why you would want to steal them, but that's what I was told.

Who wouldn't want their very own Cedar Point trash can on the patio? ;)

I think they are still there, just chained up.

They have A truck that is used to empty the containers that are attached to 2 compactor units.

I think your comments are poorly formed generalizations, Dave.

That CP is not recycling is beyond tragedy. It should be illegal.

The SeaWorld parks are not only recycling a significant portion of their waste, but they're also using compostable containers and flatware. I know this works, because it's been in practice for some time at work, on a scale that dwarfs any theme park (including any one Disney park). The cost difference is not significant.

Most places do not separate for you. There are a handful of government units that do own processing facilities (Medina County in Ohio being one of the first), and they're achieving ratios as high as 60% recycled, plus composting. Sadly, the otherwise progressive Northwest requires us to split stuff into trash, recyclables and compostables.

People sure like to come up with excuses about why recycling doesn't work, and yet it happens anyway. Go figure.

Disney does a lot of recycling.

They have the H-vac system that brings the trash to a central location where it is seperated. They even use some of it as compost and wood chips.

Doubtful as I don't think "World's Largest Amusement Park" has ever been released on DVD, which is a shame. I have it on tape somewhere, but no longer have a VCR.

I don't recall the number (per night) off the top of my head, but it wasn't an insignificant number but hardly surprising either.

I just like to use the excuse that I'm too lazy. And it pisses a few hippies off. :)

That's what I loved about living in Medina County... they did the work for you. Sure it was a little more expensive, but to me it was well worth it, and they're putting away less in landfills than anyone in the state.

Compare that to King County, Washington, where all of the sandle-wearing tree huggers live, and the scene is sad. I mean, it's almost required to own a Prius here (/me guilty!).

haha - You're required to drive a full sized pickup here in Cleveland County OK :) We live on opposite ends of the spectrum.

I actually don't mind being 'smart' - Paying a little extra to have your trash sorted for you is a smart idea, and probably well worth it. The bottle deposit law in Michigan is pretty smart.

Recycling, driving a prius, etc because it 'feels good mannnnnnn' doesn't interest me at all. Some of those hippies can be just as annoying about their way of life as the bible thumping christian types.

Except that the religion you practice does not necessarily impact others (if it does, you're doing it wrong).

Making irresponsible choices with regard to your energy consumption absolutely impacts others, and ignoring that impact is infinitely more annoying than those damn, dirty hippies.

Brandon

I'm with Jeff and DjDaemon on this one. Maybe the word I should have used instead of shocked is appalled
99er there are 3 compactors, each with a 10 ton capacity "box" that gets hauled to the landfill when full.
I am willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that CP is by far the biggest contributor to the Erie co. landfill, even with being closed 6 months out of the year.
Of course a good old freedom of information public records request for the county landfill would put any speculation to rest.........I unfortunately already have a pretty good idea though.
