CP employees...just some questions from my curiousity.

I was just wondering, are their many down sides to your jobs? I mean, I love CP so much that if I could have free access to the park basically anytime I wanted...I would definately work there. Living there would be even better!

So did any of you ever regret taking your job there? Did you ever get tired of the park? Are there anytimes that you just hate the job?

Well, it all depends on where you live at, what type of job you have at cp, and the type of people you hangout with. I loved my job at hotel breakers where I worked in housekeeping, but when there were other people who didn't want to do work, I got stuck with a double shift one day, and I was pushed around from day to night shifts, and my mom called me one day and told me that my uncle wasn't doing well and he had lung cancer really bad, so I terminated my employment at cp and came home, he later passed away. I also lost a cousin in the summer last yr after coming home from cp. So I hope that you enjoy your summer at cp, and if I came back, I would want a full-time position and I would want to live in my own place, not employee housing.

Thanks for answering that. I am thinking of maybe next summer getting a job there. I mean I am obsessed with the place, so it would be the perfect work.

I might be of some help. I have a good amount of friends that work or worked at the park. They all did different things. I knew a couple is food service, One is crew on TTD. I knew a sweeper. About 10 or so. about 90% say that the company does not treat them very well! But I suppose if you are in management is can't be bad. I guess you get a bonus at the end of the year if you do not have any "Points". You get a point for doing something wrong on the job. I guess that you can work off these points by working an extra shift at night, or doing something that you usually do not do, i.e. Cleaning, spinning cotton candy. I hope that I helped some

Yeah, it really did. Thanks.

I know it seems when you're looking at it from the outside that working at a place as fun as Cedar Point is would be enjoyable, but a lot of the time it's not. The hours can be very long, and most jobs entail constant standing/walking or being out in the heat. Being at the park gets old real fast when you're forced to be there, and you have to see it everyday. However, in my three years at CP, I never got over the absolute beauty of the park and Lake Erie driving over the causeway.

The best part of working at CP is living altogether. The best times of my life were spent at the housing complexes. I only wish that I'd had a lot more time to spend with friends.

Working at an amusement park is hard because you have to watch other people having fun all day long while you're slaving away. Not to say that there weren't times when I didn't enjoy watching people having fun. But when it's 95 in the shade and you're going on you're 12th hour..

You can still get your bonus even if you have "points." If you get too many points you'll get fired, and therefore not get your bonus...but having a couple won't necessarily prevent you from getting it. And yeah, you can work off point by doing extra hours...kind of funny to work 14 hours and then do "overtime."

I've never worked at Cedar Point, but I can get a feel at what some of you are saying. Just working in concession stands for a week at the Canfield (Mahoning County) Fair can wear you out. The Canfield Fair is the largest county fair, and second largest fair overall in Ohio.

Is the pay for most jobs decent. I mean can you live off your job at cedar point.

I know what you mean when you are saying that it would suck to watch other people have fun. That probably would get to me. I guess I can't really say for sure, because I havn't experienced it...but as of right now I would NEVER get tired of CP.

Sure I would be there everyday, but it is like heaven to me. So that would be wonderful. If I DID get tired of CP, I guess that wouldn't be that bad eathier, because then I wouldn't have withdrawls when away for it and I would be saving my money for other things. lol.

As mundanely obvious as this sounds, even though I've been doing the CP thing for my third season, walking into the gates to work is a totally and completely different experience than walking in not to work. It's always a blast to walk in as a "guest," not always so when you're an employee. I look at it as having two completely perspectives since it's two completely different mindsets.
If you love Cedar Point that much, then working there probably would be good for you. I knew someone last year who was absolutely nuts over CP, and he was there constantly - before his shift, after it, on days off...so it is possible to not get tired of it, at least not completely.

The pay starts off at $6.25/hr for most jobs...how much you make has more to do with how many hours you work. There were people who worked as little as 10 hrs a week, and those who worked more than 80. If you are living at the park, it's easy to save because rent is so cheap. As long as you're not blowing all your money at the mall, bar or other places.

I thought I would love working at CP but I ended up hating it and quitting in mid-August. Standing on my feet in the heat is horrible and with the rude and ignorant people that visit the park it can really get old..like I can help it that dragster is down...
Put it in perspective. Everytime I start to get frustrated, hot, or tired, I remind myself that I'm working at the world's best amusement park, and doing my best to contribute to that tradition. When I'm on spiels making people smile or when I can help someone who has a serious question, it makes me feel like I'm doing that job. I've worked at some seriously awful jobs, so maybe that's why I have so much appreciation for Cedar Point and the way they run things. Don't worry, you only hear the horror stories because it's human nature to complain; Cedar Point ain't bad at all for a work environment. :)

Thanks for all of your help. I'll put all of your comments into consideration. :)

Do the employees get perks like ride time after the park closes?? Free tickets for family members?

There are employee ride nights where they open one ride after-hours for employees but if you work somewhere in rides that has a long line at close sometimes you miss it. :(

Same goes for any after-hours thing at the park really though.

You get 4 free tickets and I believe it's 30 days after you start employment that you can get them.

Discounted tickets are unlimited though...

THis last summer was my first time working at cedar point. The other workers have a point- some days you wake up and cant stand doing the same ol' speils, dealing with very irrating customers, etc.. but overall I had a blast! It was bad at first because I went out to Ohio by myself right out of high school and had a hard time making friends. Eventually though I finally found people who thought like me and now I cant wait to go back. I do know people though who didnt wait and left a week or two into the job. I guess everyones experiences vary a lot.

Working at Cedar Point is an amazing experience and a time you will never forget. Like any job, there are good and bad days, but when you've left for the season in August and you think about the time you had there, you really only remember the good things -- friends from all over the US and world, ESD events (just check out those guests' faces as they're forced to leave the park when you're lounging with your friends in front of the laser light show screen before a movie night), random hilarity in the Sandusky area, and good times at the park "power-riding." You start missing your CP friends because you've had a shared experience with them that no one else can understand; no one else gets all the jokes and references to crazy things that have happened at the park (ex. ARC Day -- whee!). Pretty soon, you find yourself lurking around places like the Employee Lounge on PointBuzz, talking about the good times and counting down the days 'til the next season. Cedar Point is like a huge family, and the memories you make while working there will stay with you forever. Sure, there are some people who decide they hate the place as soon as they get there, but if they take off and leave, they are seriously missing out.

How hard is it to get a full time job at CP? I imagine it is pretty slow there in the off season unless you are working on sprucing up the rides. Also do they hire just for weekends or hire just for the bonus weekends? I live aways away and have another full time job but everytime I go down in the fall they alawys seem to be short staff.

I really love working at Cedar Point, the beginning of the season when we're working O-C's (Open-Close) every day can be extremely grueling - those lasted for about three weeks. I love to see the people happy after riding Dragster, asking young children what they've done during the day and just interacting with the guests in general. There are those few guests that make you want to jump across the counter and strangle them. Take the guy who told me he was gonna break my f****** face in or the woman who yelled at me because I work in Merch and have no clue why the ride is down. I've met some of my best friends at CP and I cherish them. CP is really like any other job when it comes to being sick of it. There are days when you don't want to go to work but you do anyway. Sometimes I get sick of the park but I work in a high traffic area of the park six days a week so sometimes I just need to stay away from it all and just relax. Running around like a little chicken with his head in cut off in the summer heat can be stressful at times. But.....I love CP and I AM going back.
