So my girlfriend and I are considering a trip to CP at the end of the summer. We're gonna be there for a two full days on a weekend (Sat/Sun) and I'm looking for opinions on the best weekend. Our candidates are the last weekend in August (27/28), or either of the first two weekends in September (3/4 or 10/11).
I want to rule August 27/28 right now, because, well, its still August, and while its the very end of August, I know it can be extremely busy. Same goes for Sept 3/4. That's Labor Day weekend. People are getting their last second summer vacations in. That leaves the second weekend, but I have no idea how busy CP is after they go weekends only. I imagine there's a lot fewer guests, but I know for certain there's a lot fewer employees, too, so I don't expect rides to be running at maximum capacity. However, the hotel room is a LOT cheaper if I go during that time.
As many of you know, I used to work for CP, but that was in '02 and '03. That's years ago. Even if I remembered it, the experience could have changed a lot.
Any opinions?
EDIT: Also, my girlfriend is a bit of a bigger girl, and she and I are worried she might not fit on some of the rides. Anyone know any general measurements or ways we can figure out if she won't fit on some of the rides before we go?
Late August can be hit or miss with the crowds it seems. Ever since Michigan went to not starting school until after Labor day, those weeks have gotten busier. I'd go the 10/11 of September for the best chance of beating the crowds.
You should really just wait another week after that and go for Halloweekends. :)
As for the size measurements, I believe the CP website advises anyone over a 40 inch waist could have trouble, but it really varies based on the person and the ride. The most restrictive ones all have test seats, so just make sure you try those first.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
I'd *highly* recommend September 10/11; that's the 'bonus' weekend between Labor Day and the start of HalloWeekends, and the park is usually dead. Last year I wasn't even there a full day on that Sunday and managed to get on all 17 coasters, some several times.
Unfortunately I just found out that the people we were going to go with can't go the 10/11 weekend.
So now, its between the Aug 27/28 weekend and Sept 3/4 (Labor Day weekend), and I imaging Labor Day weekend is pretty nuts, but the Aug 27/28 can be, too.
Some Ohio schools are back in by the 2nd week of August, which is fairly absurd. Last I heard there was a bill in the state senate looking to require schools to start after Labor day, but I haven't heard what's happened with that.
