CP #2?!?

I saw a show on the Travel Channel last night ("World's Greatest Thrill Parks", I think) and CP came in at #2. Universal FL was rated #1.

That suprised me! I thought CP was #1...

I remember seeing that show last year. I've never put a whole lot of value in any of their top ten lists. As far as I can tell from the Travel Channel web site, they base their results on: "Chosen for their historical significance, annual attendance and number and quality of rides".

It seems as if Cedar Point has Universal beat on both historical significance and quality of rides. But then again, different polls, different determining factors and at different times of the year usually produce different results.

It, also, depends on who's voting. I don't recall recieving a ballot. Do you? Obviously, most of us in GTTP know which park is the best in all aspects.
I remember seeing that show, I was surprised too. Even after being to Universal Florida 6 months ago, I still feel Cedar Point is #1 in my book. Universal is very good, my wife & I loved it. Don't forget, Universal has 2 parks. The studios & Islands of Adventure. That's probably what played a part in them being #1.

How about the show before that "Ultimate Thrill: Beyond Speed" Those rides looked good, but come on, Cedar Point has better thrill rides than those mentioned. Son of Beast at Kings Island is a great thrill coaster though. I couldn't believe they even had X-Flight from Six Flags Worlds of Adventure. Six flags was featured a lot. I think they just wanted to show thrill rides at other parks, that don't get mentioned on most coaster shows. I was dissappointed though, I expected to see Cedar Point mentioned in there.

That Delerium ride looked sweet, woulnd't mind if Cedar Point got one of those.......
I personally think IOA deserved #1. I don't know, just the whole atmosphere of that place is truely awesome and the number of roller coasters Cedar Point has, just dosen't convey that sense of aww in me. Don't get me wrong, I love Cedar Point, but in my opinion it's #2 only to IOA.

Oh yeah, I was surprised too that there wasn't anything on any of CP's roller coasters on that beyond speed show!

I also saw that show last night and was surprised. It really seemed that the only thing they liked about IOA were the high-tech simulator rides because that is pretty much all they talked about. They also said that those rides would replace roller coasters as the thrill rides of the future. Yah right!

I agree with Mike Erickson, IOA is a better all around park. Even though I love CP, I have alot better time at IOA than I ever had at CP. And, even though CP has the record breaking coasters, IOA has the amazing detailed theming. Also IOA has the Incredible Hulk(drools all over self.)

Although IOA only has two coasters (Hulk and Dueling Dragons), their SIM rides look awesome, and i didn't realize IOA had so many themes. As much as I like CP, it does appear that IOA has a great deal to offer.

If I also recall correctly, they based their selections on a lot of criteria, including themeing, attendance, overall appearance of the park, and the variety of what it has to offer.

Well Cedar point is an Amusement park, not a theme park, right? And the attendance thing, CP is closed 5 months out of the year, and only full time for 4, which seems to be a bit of a disadvantage. I don't know about all of you, but I can care less if a ride is themed to a "T". It won't make my ride any better, unless your favorite part of the ride is sitting in the station.

Also, they shouldn't be judged in the same catagory. IOA and US should be in the same catagory as Disney or even the Busch Gardens parks. I liked IOA too, but it did just seem like a more thrilly version of Disneyworld. Cedar Point and IOA don't even compare in my book.

Which is why its a theme park. The name of the show was "Worlds Best Thrill Parks", if it truely was, then Cedar Point should have won hands down. If the show was called "Worlds Best Theme Parks", then I could see why IOA would be number one. Two differnt catigories in my opinion. But then again its just a re-run on TTC and it still didn't change my idea of the number one park!:) I'll leave the voting up to Amusement Today, they always pick the right park;)

i am not a fan of virtual rides, so it ain't my favorite, but i agree IOA is one of the best. on those, your like "i'm falling!, wait, i'm not. on a real coaster it like "i'm falling!" but i do agree hulk kicks total arse, and dragons is sweet too.

I think in the credits for that show at the end, I saw CP mentioned even though it was not in the show. They must have had a segment that got cut.

I know Kings Island has Delerium opening this year. It's slightly different then the one on the show, but, very similar too. One differnce is that riders face outward instead of inward. It also looks like a bit smaller of a ride. It still looks like a good thrill ride.

Did anyone notice they mentioned the Golden Ticket Award Busch Gardens Williamsberg won for the best park envirorment or something like that. But, they mentioned Cedar Point won the best amusement park for over 2 years in a row.

I think that IOA and CP are like apples and oranges. I disagree with the show lumping those places together. I think they would tie for number one, if not each being number one in two different genres. CP is obviously the best "amusement" park while IOA is the best "theme" park. Everybody should try to get to both places because of the different experiences they offer. Well, that's my two cents.
I got the chance to go to IOA a few weeks ago... WOW..

Cedar Point and IOA are amazing, but in their own ways. What it boils down to, IOA is the better theme park, Cedar Point it the better amusment park.
