Hey all!
My friend and I are thinking about getting some jobs next summer at CP, and we just have a couple questions :)
1) Are there any of the dorms that have double rooms? My friend and I would like it if we were in it and there was not a third/fourth person to be alienated by us because we know each other.
2) Could we be schedules nearly the same... possibly same ride? Or same work times?
3) I checked the internet access thread, but I'm just curious if dial-up is possible ( i didn't recieve a concrete answer).
4) If I brought a Desktop computer (iMac G5) would there be risks of it being stolen? Kindof weary about that.
5) Which dorms/housing there are the best? As in most comfortable... AC would be preferrable, a kitchen is more or less not needed.
6) If we brought a car would parking be available?
Thanks a ton for all the answers guys, and I look forward to being there next summer!
1) No. All rooms will have at least 3 people. You might be able to keep a third/fourth person out if you make up a name and tell them when you move in you're waiting on the "others". That bought us about 3 weeks of an empty bed last season.
2) If you are going to live with your friend, you WILL WANT TO WORK A DIFFERENT RIDE. YOU WILL GET TIRED OF YOUR FRIEND, TRUST ME.
Schedules will most likely not be the same. It happens
3) It is, but it sucks. The best speeds I got were 19.2 and 21.6
4) Yes, especially if you dont know all of your roommates. Leave it at home.
Then again, it's a mac. It'd work better as a doorstop ;)
5) Commons DORMS has air conditioning. No place to cook. Commons APARTMENTS hav ea place to cook but no AC.
6) Yes, but there are parking ban days.
2) Trying to get the same schedule would be a pain for your TL or ATL's, even if you're on the same ride.
4) You would most likely have no room for a desktop. I brought a laptop and I just hid hit in the corner so no one knew where I kept it.
6) It's available, but it's impossible to find a space unless you're there at 7:30 am.

2007/2008/2009: Walt Disney World - Magic Kingdom - Tomorrowland Speedway
2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor
2008/2009: Universal Orlando - Men in Black: Alien Attack Team Leader, Guest Services Coordinator
He (the original poster) just really doesn't understand what it's like to work at the Point.
Neither do I. I have never worked there, but have visited as a guest for over 30 years. In all those visits, I've seen what ride ops, foods, sweeps, etc do...they work their butts off.
If you wish to serve people and be in a support role, go for it! CP needs more people with the passion to succeed
They need it more ways than one.

1) Are there any of the dorms that have double rooms? My friend and I would like it if we were in it and there was not a third/fourth person to be alienated by us because we know each other.
-You can get the same room and be by yourselves if u live in cedars...other than that, make up a name to be on the list, if your lucky you can get away without a 3rd roomate but its only a 10% chance at the most...
2) Could we be schedules nearly the same... possibly same ride? Or same work times?
-it depends on what ride u work i guess..i noticed when i was on mean streak there were a dating couple working on the ride and they were able to get some days off together. It doesnt really matter same days off or not your not gonna feel like doin anything after work your gonna wanna just relax in your room and watch some tv or surf the web.
3) I checked the internet access thread, but I'm just curious if dial-up is possible ( i didn't recieve a concrete answer).
yea they have a phone line, they just ask u not to keep it held up online all the time incase they try to call you into work. If your alarm dont go off and your online all night there is no way to call you to wake you up (happened to somone on antiques)
4) If I brought a Desktop computer (iMac G5) would there be risks of it being stolen? Kindof weary about that.
I think people mainly go for smaller stuff to steal, it'll be kind of hard to get away with a computer (IMO)..I bought my new PC when i was down there and there and i was nervous bringing it to my room as people were watching me so of course they new i had just gotten a brand new pc and it is rather easy to get into rooms.
5) Which dorms/housing there are the best? As in most comfortable... AC would be preferrable, a kitchen is more or less not needed.
AC in the dorms, but the dorm i had the ac was crappy..no ac in cedars so a window fan is definatly needed. If u go to cedars i suggest decorating the room with some posters to make it look nice, maybe get a throw rug...cedars is supposivly haunted which is one reason why i lived there, im not a big believer in that stuff but wanted to give it a go, and yes some weird things happened to me...i wont go into detail here though.
6) If we brought a car would parking be available?
DEFINATLY BRING A CAR! I dont know how people go without a car, those who dont bring a car always regret it because if they wanna go into town to shop they gotta bug others to drive them or take the CP bus but then your stuck at the mall for like 4 hours and trust me the mall gets boring quick.
I hope i helped..

You will either like or dislike your other roomate(s). If you like them, then you might hang out with them. If you don't, you can simply hang out with other people. Housing isn't cozy, it's just a place to sleep.
2) Could we be schedules nearly the same... possibly same ride? Or same work times?
Depending on your leadership, they may or may not accomadate your requests. The more requests they get, the harder scheduling gets. The person who writes the schedule will prioritize. Your requests are likely to get low priority at best. If both of you get a larger ride then it might be easy to jot down two same schedules.
3) I checked the internet access thread, but I'm just curious if dial-up is possible ( i didn't recieve a concrete answer).
Dialup is available in the rec center for 20 minute periods. You can connect to the internet via the phone line with your own service. It is hard to use and slow as stated before.
4) If I brought a Desktop computer (iMac G5) would there be risks of it being stolen? Kindof weary about that.
If you have it, not advertise it. Many things get stolen despite size. It's a very bad problem. The best thing to do is leave it at home. Usually if you don't let people know about it, it won't get taken. Many doors are easily opened with a credit car or plastic knife. I personally shimed my door so that trick did not work. There was one case were I helped a roomate break into his room (apartments have basically 5 dorms in them). Housing didn't have an extra key for that lock.
5) Which dorms/housing there are the best? As in most comfortable... AC would be preferrable, a kitchen is more or less not needed.
There are ways to live in the apartments without A/C in the rooms. A good fan will keep you cool. A box fan may work, but there are somewhat smaller fans that put out a good amount of air without being loud. Small fans will be loud or won't put out much air. Stores usually have several on display. Apartments cost up to $24 while commons dorms are up to $32.20. It may decrease if you don't work enough hours in that week.
6) If we brought a car would parking be available?
Parking is available accrossed the street from common accessable by a bridge. There is a limited number of spots next the commons but it usually is full. It is hard to get a parking spot on point near space spiral between the times of 11-4. It can get so bad that you have to drive around for 10-20 minutes sometimes longer to get a spot. It's a good idea to carpool to work as much as possible. It saves on gas too.
Hey guys, thanks a lot for all the information!
I'm not debating on whether or not to go to CP to get some jobs, or to go down to Disney to get a job.
I know I would make a lot more money at CP, and probably meet a lot more people, but I'm not completely into it for the money. Cash handling experience is kindof essentialy for an introductory field I'm going into (Economics-- usually during college you get jobs as bank tellers, which turns into something more), so I just need to get that experience in.
I really do not think I'd mind living there as it's only three months, and seems like a nice experience, but the Disney housing/area is so much more enticing, and location is nice.
But then again it's just a job... hrmm.... I'll talk it over with my friend, but I hope we wind up at CP :-D
Thanks again!
If you ask me from my experience its better to go alone and not with a friend. I went with a friend and if your like me you try to be a loyal friend and when he pretty much got fired i thought it was only right to quit with him, i would have done it for any of my friends...it was a stupid decision i made that i really regret, but thats how i am, if a friend is treated badley im gonna defend them...that wasnt the only reason i left it was all timing because it happened as i was starting to miss all my other friends and hanging out with them, i guess i got a little homesick...i know no what to expect and if im able to go back next year then i'll see ya there.

mulletman13,
If it's "just a job" to you, forget it. You won't want to be there and nobody else will want you there.
If you are going to be successfull, you need to have a passion for what you do. "Just a job" won't cut it.

MrScott is right. Working (and especially living) at an amusement park is a lot more than just a job, it is a lifestyle. You will work such long, hard hours and you really need to love amusement parks and be dedicated to making sure everyone you encounter has a good experience. But hey, if you are an Economics major you could apply to work as a Teller in Cash Control, that sounds as if it would be ideal for you. Good luck, whatever you decide.
Hey,
Sorry I didn't mean to make it sound like it was just some old run of the mill job... I have worked a couple seasons with Six Flags Great America (long hours and all) so I know what it takes, and I know how things are working at a park.
And yes I did enjoy what I did, so I would love to be there :)
