Could they close the park?

You know if the park wanted to get crazy and actually use their creative arm of the company for good, they could take one or two of the ballrooms at Castaway and turn them into an outdoor lighted walk-through. Something similar to what the Bellagio does in its atrium during Christmas. Picture the wooded queue on E.T. at Universal but decked out with lights and fake snow and whatnot. Almost built similar to the way a haunted house is designed. Could actually be pretty cool for the guests at the hotel if it were done right.

Only the office area of Breakers is heated to a "comfortable" temperature. The rest of the hotel has minimal heat...just enough to keep the pipes from freezing.

If only part of breakers is heated, then where do the full time employees stay over the off season. I know somewhere, Tony said that he lives in Michigan and only goes home during the holidays. I thought some of them stayed at Breakers. I could be completely wrong though.

Where do they "stay" as in live? Every full time employee lives within the area around Cedar Point (Sandusky, Huron, Vermillion, Norwalk, etc). No one is housed by Cedar Point except for seasonal employees in the summer.

Ok, i thought they lived on site during the off season. I thought breakers became their home in the winter.

Nope, they all have their own homes and apartments in the area. Plus I don't think you could get anyone to want to live in Breakers in the off season. I know I would not want to be out there in the dead of winter.

I would. It'd be like the Shining.

The Shining is exactly what its like when you are in there during the off-season. It is very creepy.

I'd be down for that.

I agree with most, I would never want to be on that island during the best parts of winter. The only thing I could imagine doing there is having a wedding, and or reception in the hotel or the ballroom. I love CP and if my wife did to, I can see it being a choice. But I really dont think there would be enough interest in that to be profitable enough to do. I know that Cedar Fair would say go to Castaway. But to me it just isn't the same.

As far as the closing of the park and it going the way of 'Bluestar airlines.' Never happen. It's a money maker and is not the reason for Cedar Fair's Debt. Even if they sell off Cedar Point, whomever buys it would I'm sure be in it for what it already is. A profitable amusement park.

Earlier someone brought up Riverview Park in Chicago. My mother swears by that place. But was closed before the amusement park boom. And the economy of the business was different then. Kiddieland which closed this year was a carnival that never moves. Which is close to Santa's Village which closed some years ago. They were great places to take the YOUNG kids, but the age factor leaves a small window for repeat visitors compared to Great America which has something for everyone. Granted costs a ton more. GA , like CP, is located between two large towns and is also very profitable and going nowhere.

As far as spending large sums of money to add coasters. I think they will as that stuff is planned and budgeted out 5 years in advance. And to keep an entertainment place thriving, you have to always add to the experience.

Just my views of course, but I don't see any reason for any panic of a closing.

By the way, it's not an island..... ;)

Indeed, it is simply a peninsula with no connecting land above the water level, all submerged. ;)

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Yeah, I don't see it being a good idea having snow on the ground and people driving on perimeter road, what if someones car slid on the ice and took a dive for the lake? Ekh!!!!!!

But getting back on the subject a little more, I think I want to stay oblivious as to what is going on, I don't ever want to think that "Cedar Point" would ever be anything else but what it is now. I just don't want to think about that.

I wouldn't worry, MissX. Cedar Point is the crown jewel of the Cedar Fair empire. It has a colorful history, is profitable, generates a lot of cash, and is acclaimed as the best amusement park in the country, if not the world. They would have no incentive to close it. In fact, I would bet that if the Point was not part of the deal, Apollo would not have offered to purchase Cedar Fair.

Now, some of the other parks in the portfolio may have cause for concern. Does Apollo see this deal as part amusement park, part real estate grab?

Maybe they will finally give employees a bonus at the park?
