Corkscrew Train Repaint

And it's also a hybrid between a giga, Aquatrax, and log flume.

Can't wait to see the trains roaring over the midway this summer, will really help add to the affect of the ride. Won't look as bland.

Those of us who have been here long enough know that for quite some time many of us (myself included) clamored for the park to pay attention to the "little things", as those seemingly small touches add up to a more beautiful park overall.

There are too many examples to mention that have happened over the past 5-7 seasons, but this is just another example that the park is in the hands of people who truly get that.

Speaking of which, I wonder what Part 2 of the Maverick tunnel upgrade will bring. If you recall, it was stated that it was a 2-year upgrade, the first of which saw the train lights/sounds.

Dare I dream of......fog?

Yup. The lighting and sound were restored last year and let me tell you, it's a very nice touch.

I think the Corkscrew structure would look pretty cool if the loop and double helix didn't have the arches over the track, but have columns that support the loop like on the Vortex at KI and the same track support on the double helix like it is on the VF Corkscrew and MA Corkscrew. CP could install chaser lights on main tubular track pipe through the loop and on the double helix. That would look pretty awesome at night not seeing the arch supports over the midway and track. The track arches look ugly anyway :-) If CP plan on keeping the Corkscrew around for a long time, why not just replace the trains with lap and shin restraint system like on SV. Funny how when SFMM did the RMC treatment on Colossus the next year SFMM got rid of those stupid OTSR on The Revolution restoring the trains the way it used to be when that coaster opened in 1976.

The arches are much more visually interesting and pretty, IMO.

While the new Corkscrew trains look great, I'm a bit skeptical now about the ride's future.

I had the same thought for a few moments, but I still hold the same unwavering stance that Corkscrew will never be removed from the park.

With the dark blue paint at night and just seeing the chaser lights in motion will give the coaster a mystical look as the trains navigate the double helix giving park guest wondering how is the track being supported over their heads. BTW I don't ever see the Corkscrew being removed from CP. Heck look how old Blue Streak is :-)

MeanVengeance18

Just the fact that Corkscrew takes up next to zero space whatsoever inside the park makes me think that it is far, far, far, far down on the list of rides that are in danger for of being removed from the park. Plus, it just looks gorgeous, and is as quintessentially Cedar Point as you can get. Nothing that would replace it could possibly capture the same aura.

Well Said. To bad Jumbo Jet still isn't around. That was a big staple to CP'S ride arsenal, very modern for that time period and was just as popular like the bigger coasters at CP today. It has always been said Jumbo Jet was a maintenance nightmare. I'm guessing it was the motors in the 2 car trains were hard to get parts for after a while. If Jumbo Jet could be rebuilt, install Stators and LIM motors to drive the trains up the spiral lift. Like Maverick. I know it will never happen, but just a cool thought :-)

Return the Magnum XL 200 Tunnel Music. Sure of some of you out there who remember that? Very spaced out sound, heavy base :-)

^ lasers and fog too if I remember correctly.

Does anyone have a link to the tunnel music? I'd like to hear it. When did they get rid of it?

Fog in tunnels. Lights that were used was those small rotating spot lights set up at the base of the lift hill. They were only used on opening day weekend.

MeanVengeance18

YouTube Magnum XL 200 1989 media day. WTOL news in Toledo Ohio has a sound bite of the tunnel music in their video reporting.

MeanVengeance18

I liked the train design. The perfect girlfriend date roller coaster :-)

MeanVengeance18

Think it was 1994 when CP did away with the tunnel music. Hope CP will bring it back.

MeanVengeance18

Funny I can't find Jumbo Jet on ride POV when the coaster was at CP. Nice views of the park and Lake Erie.
