Contract Time

Hi guys,

I did a search and couldn't come up with anything, so I hope this hasn't been brought up before.

Next year I'm graduated from high school around June 20th or so. I want to run either a ski resort or a theme park, so I really considering Resort Management which is supposed to be a great program and is offered at Green Mountain College in Vermont. However, the program itself is a 3 year program but is on trimester.

For the first year, I would have an orientation around the 20th of August. The other 2 years I'd start around the first week of September.

I want to work at Cedar Point for at least a few summers, or longer ;), but I'm concerned they wouldn't hire me because of my time contraint, especially next summer. Next summer I'd be able to work from 22 or so of June to the 18th or so of August. Is that long enough to even be considered to be hired? The other 2 summers I'd be able to work from June 10th or so until the end of August.

Any ideas on whether this is an issue?

Thanks for your help guys.

I'm graduating in 2 years, and I also want to work at CP the summer I graduate. I wouldn't be able to start until mid June and end whenever my college would be starting, which i'm sure is when most ride ops are done due to school. Thanks for the info! :)

um......i know for many divisions we ask for at least 12 weeks for your contract. their may be some exceptions and it doesn't hurt to try to still apply

especially with your area of study, I would hope that they would at least give your application consideration since I would hope you will take pride in your work as this is something you could use on your professional resume as 'internship' experience. It's always worth a try. I would definately show an interest early, look into hospitality type jobs in the resorts, or with guest services possibly? Also, do you have the same length break between each trimester? Maybe you could work several times a year at the indoor waterpark/hotel since it is open year round.

I would be surprised if they turned you down. Last season a guy on my crew started at the end of June, because he wasn't 18 yet, and then was done the second week of aug to go to school. If you will work for them, they'll hire you. CP always needs people to work.

In most departments, especially rides, if you are interested, and can prove you are a hard worker, time constraints isn't a problem.

You have no idea what a hard worker I would be at Cedar Point. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my summer. I also emailed someone from the park and they responded saying that in Rides, time constraints due to college aren't really an issue.

I really, really hope it works out.
