construction pictures

Even though we have not gotten the construction updates from Monty so far this time. Do yall think that once they announce it there will be pictures posted from construction that took place prior to the announcement? I know there have been some shots from various people but the really up-close and good shots would have been taken by someone with more access the general public. Like the top off the tower and the track on the tower. Remember the cool pics of this during the construction of MF. Jeff have you been able to do like you did with MF and just waiting to post them at a later date like the gallery of MF construction pictures ? I hope so
I would expect that CP will do something like this. It is relatively easy to do, and generates good buzz.

Im sure they will have a time-lapse video, but i doubt much more than that. Who wants to look back at construction photos after its done. Half the fun of the construction photos is to try and figure out what the ride will be and follow its progress, its like watching survivor or somthin where you tune in every week. No one wants to watch survivor re-runs. I wish they would have at least made a video from a helicopter of the tower being topped like they did for MF.

I'm thinking we're not even going to get a construction diary. I mean, all that would be left is the wiring and testing. Besides he even said in the last WT post that he'd see us in a couple years, and I'm pretty sure the VP of construction would know that they'd be building a giant ride the next summer. I bet we'll get some pictures once it's announced, but nothing to the extent of what they did with MF and WT.

Hey Brent, if he said "See you in a couple years" then that means that CP is getting a coaster next year then right? I don't think so. Well, it would be nice! Three coasters in three years! Let's hope what Brent is saying is right!

"Twisted Sister" is the name of the new rollercoaster at Cedar Point for 2003. Just watch!

There isn't gonna be a 2004 coaster. They've already announced they will be expanding Lighthouse Point for 2004.

Didn't they expand the Breakers hotel the same year as Millennium Force?

EVEN SO.. I think there is no way in hell that they will get a coaster in 2004. That would simply be pointless. Do you think this coaster's records are going to be broken anytime soon? I'd guess that over 75% of parks have height restrictions that do not even allow past 250 feet.. let alone 400! Now if they have the record of the world's tallest and fastest coaster, are they going to build a new MAJOR attraction? naaaaaaa.

I could see a wild mouse or something like that within the next 2 years however.. but nothing over a few million dollars.

CP spent 25 mill on MF, and 15 mill building Breakers Express. it all came out to be 48 million, which is more than what CF spent on all the parks last year, and about the same as they projected for year.

I think there is a chance of a 2004 coaster. They may need one to keep up on the count with SFMM, and if SF:WoA gets permission to build, I doubt they would want a season when they don't open one while WoA gets a major addition. The intertia of the public is to go to CP, and they don't want to mess with that trend.

I think there will be photos when they do announce, but there may not be a journal. Also, I don't think that anything specific was meant with the "see you in a couple years." Even if he thought he would be back in 2003, they were not ready to let us know that. I doubt that they planned to delay the announcement way back then, but I could be wrong.

Nobody thought we were in for a 2002 coaster, and we got one... not to mention a 2003. Do you honestly think we'll see another in 2004? No. We won't.

Even if SFWoA did get a major addition, I'd still spend my money on CP. Quite frankly, after the last few experiences I had at SFWoA, unless I was given a free ticket, I wouldn't even bother. A good percentage of the rides weren't even operating, and those that were had ridiculously long lines (almost 2 hours for Superman?? I was on WT in 45 minutes last season!). I'd rather pay the extra few bucks and drive the extra half hour and go to CP.

I don't know about the rest of the folks here, but I know I've heard from a lot of people that they've been disappointed with SFWoA, and I know of at least two who didn't renew their season passes last year because of it. Let's face it...CP has been and will continue to be the big boy in this market, and even if they don't construct a new coaster/thrill ride for 2004, they're still miles ahead of their nearest competition.

Expanding Lighthouse Point does nothing for the park itself. Most people don't even know about the hotels and such. So they could still build something, whether it be a coaster or a flat or anything else, that is what the people mainly see since it applies to everyone who visits the park, not just the hotels.
Building Lighthouse Point or expanding the hotels will do more for the parks bottom line than opening a new ride next year.

Another thing I think may happen in the not-too-distant future is another park purchase by Cedar Fair. Again, that adds to real growth of the company.

You are VERY wrong, beastfreak. CP resorts are booked solid most of the summer, and Lighthouse Point has become one of the most popular places to stay on site.

Yes that may be, but I had no Idea CP had hotels until 2001 on my first trip. I'm sure there are many other people out there that are the same way. Plus there are people that come that can't afford those hotels, so the main draw isn't the hotels, I'm just saying that there is always a possibility that the hotel(s) expansion is not the only thing since it isn't what draws people to the park.
kmn4,

I also would choose CP over WoA anyday. But there is a short term draw with a new ride and if WoA opened a new Hyper in a year that CP got nothing, they may get a few more guests than they normally do.

I guess my real point is that the rational for when CP has to build a new major ride may have changed. SFMM built 3 coasters in one year to catch up at the same time, they opened a park pretty close. I know that MM is far away, but I think that these moves are why we are seeing back to back major rides as opposed to the usual 2 year wait. I really don't think they would let MM get to 17 in '04 while they waited till '05. I also think they will try to keep WoA a footnote as much as possible. I could be wrong, but if CoasterPlaya wants to put this crow sandwich in the deep freeze for me, that is my prediction. They may not build if both MM does not and WoA can't get a hyper.

Also, speaking of construction pics, check out the new ones at VM if you have not yet. They are even better than the last ones.

Anyone who does not know about the accomodations at CP really must not do any planning or homework. The GetAway Guide has almost 3 pages just for the places to stay, as well as packages for early summer and late summer. The web site has numerous places to hit for info, and the brochure has information in it as well. Breakers and Sandcastle are almost full capacity during the entire summer. What CP does need is another addition to Breakers, specifically another tower.

If you build it, they will come.

You must not know a whole lot about business. It doesn't matter if most people know about Lighthouse Point, or can afford it for that matter. If that property yields a large profit, then that is what the board of directors will spend the parks capital improvements money on.
