Consrtuction coming from Detroit?

I live in Detroit and every year we run into huge construction coming from I-94 and I-75, does anyone know what the schedule will be this year?
Remember, there are only two seasons in Michigan: winter, and road construction.

A good site to check is the Michigan Department of Transportation web site. There you'll find info on scheduled or occuring road construction.

It does not appear that they have 2003 construction available yet, but when it does become available, it will be at that site first. If it's a multi-year project, you can view its status and see what future plans are, which may assist in planning trips.

Really? i take 275 to 75 and i dont run into construction until i get into Ohio and thats just for a minute or two becasue then i get off for Route 2.
It will be a fun summer. 75 south of Detroit is only half done. They did northbound last year, southbound starts in April I think I heard.

Southbound I-75 will be routed on the Northbound lanes... a.k.a. there will be no permanent closure.

However, I recommend avoiding the area. I'm coming from Auburn Hills area, so I take Telegraph to I-696 to I-275 to I-75, which completely bypasses downtown detroit. Too bad I-275 doesn't go completely up to I-75 again. (How exactly do they plan on someone getting to Flint as shown... I-275 to I-96 to US-23?)

Tek..

I am not sure of your question but it is quite possible to get to flint in the way you decsribed. Take I-275 north to I-96 west. Head out towards lansing and in about 10-12 miles I-96 intersects with US-23. Take US-23 north and it runs directly through Flint. In fact, US-23 and I-75 merge into one highway just south of flint.

Oh... what I was wondering about is when you're driving north on I-75 and the I-275 interchange approaches, it says Flint for I-275. I always thought it interesting that they'd label it that way, and I wondered what the method of travel to Flint they had in mind. Your post confirmed my suspicions.

I would just prefer that I-275 keep going north of the I-696 / I-96 / Northwestern Highway interchange and complete a trip up to I-75 somehow.

Not much point in that, actually. I-275 was meant only to be a connector to I-696 east and I-96 west.

I take 275 south to the connection to 75, and just like Raptor, take Route 2 east to CP.

I wonder if they will EVER get 280 done?!

I-280 is going under massive reconstruction, which it extremely needs. The huge hurdle they're jumping is the complete construction of a new bridge over the Maumee River, which will allow for continuous traffic since they're building it higher than the previous one (a.k.a. bye bye drawbridge for I-280). Once construction is complete, the drawbridge will be used for a state trunkline.

Information on the project is available at http://www.lookuptoledo.org. And bad news. It's projected to reach completion in 2006.

Oh, and I'm a fan of the Ohio Turnpike. Freeway all the way, and the lack of exits makes it much safer. But watch out for the highway patrol! Yikes!

For those of you who prefer Rt 2 to the turnpike going east, why? I've done it once, and it seems to me that it takes *much* longer.
It only takes me 2 hours from home (Plymouth, MI) to CP using route 2. It moves quickly enough for me. It takes 15-20 minutes longer coming in from the turnpike and up 250.

The Mickey D's on Route 2 is our "halfway" point and bathroom stop both ways.

I knew about the replacement of the drawbridge. Thanks for the link, TekGuy. This will come in very handy for our trips to CP this season.

I downloaded MDOT's Five Year Plan for the Metro Area in PDF form and put the 2003-only construction projects on a web page for easier viewing.

Feel free to share the link with anyone you think may be interested. I won't be taking it down for the year.

Route 2 is scenic. The Turnpike is boring. Going through rural Ohio near the lake and seeing the various landmarks is all part of the experience.

plus, on clear days, when you go over the Edison bridge you get an early view of the point.

Does anyone know the shortest way coming from Detroit?

TekGuy's avatar
Depends on where from Detroit... if the Metro Area, let me know.

This is the route I take, and I highly suggest it, as it's comprised of Interstate and Highway travel.

Take I-75 South. Once in Ohio, about 3 or 4 miles, you'll take the I-280 Exit to the LEFT. Follow this all the way (about 15 miles?) to the Ohio Turnpike / I-80 / I-90. Grap a Toll Ticket, and head EAST.

Exit at 118, or old Exit 7, and pay the toll (which is $1.80 if I remember right... 5 to 7)... then go NORTH on US-280 and follow the Cedar Point signs you'll see about 10 miles north.

If I'm off, let me know.

Well if your gonna take the turnpike don't get off at the 250 exit get off at the exit before it. Its cheaper and quicker.

Finally an annoucment.

Ohio Route 4? I've done that before... when 250 was closed one time for a parade. The toll is 25 cents cheaper.
