I was really considering applying to CP (Soak City, most likely). I just have a few questions that maybe some of you current lifegaurds could answer for me.
Does SC provide training? I am not certified.
Time off? Is that sceduled when you sign the contract?
Was being a lifegaurd your first choice?
Is there time to go home for a night or two? I live like an hour away.
How many hours per day do you work?
Do you have fun with it?
Wow, I have way too many questions. Thank you for answering them, though!
Six Flags: The AOL of Theme parks...
Yes they do
If you need a certain day off, ask for it asap. First week of January or when you do your phone interview, if possible.
I can't anmswer
You are given 1 day off a week. Sometimes you can get a Sunday/Monday off together, or your can contract some time off (Do it in January). That should give you enough time.
Anywhere from 4 to 14+ (Although, I bet its less at SC.)
cant answer that
I live in a suburb of Toledo and I drive an hour each way every day. It can be done. If you dont feel like driving 6000 miles over the summer though you can still make it home for about 2 nights per week depending on your schedule during your day off. I dont know about Soak City but our department generally tries to schedule you for opening shift the day before your day off and closing the day after so you really get almost 48 hours off if your lucky for your day off.

As a current employee in SC (foods) this id my 3rd season at CP and 1st at SC. I have actuallly enjoyed the summer so far. I am a sup at one of the stands and have got a great crew. To anyone who is interested in next season got for it. It's a good time.
I second that coastercook. I have had a great time at Cedar Point and am planning on coming back next season as soon as I finish up with Disney in May. I know some of my friends are considering it for next year as well. Come join the crew for '06!

I worked a whole season as a Soak City West Guard, and this summer, I was a guard on the beach, but left a month early to pursue a job more in my career path:
Yes, cp provides training. You will be certified as an Ellis & Associates guard. see www.jellis.com for more info.
Time off - SC guards usually get 2 days off a week once the season is in full swing. During the pre-seasona and after the middle of August you may get 1 day off a week.
Being a lifeguard was my 1st choice my first season and 2nd my 2nd season. (I would have preferred to be an EMT, but it is a little difficult to get reciprocity in Ohio for my EMT license, especially for a summer job.)
On the beach our standard shift was 12 hours. I believe SC usually works 8-10 each day.
I had a lot of fun both seasons. Being a CP Guard is not quite what most people expect in a lifeguarding job however. It is more grueling than it looks. Ellis and the managers of CP have high standards. It gets quite hot and exhausting, especially when you are doing net drags in the lake at 6 am inservice. But if you are willing to work long hard days, the friendships and other rewards are worth it.
If you have any other questions about the job feel free to email or pm me.
