coaster count

since the last topic was taken down--im still wondering about this six flags magic mountain vs cedar point. what counts as a coaster exactly because when sfmm says they have 15 coasters, they are counting two of their kiddie coasters. if cedar point did the same, the new project would be #18. could someone clarify this?
Uhhhhh,

(1) Cedar Point does count their (1) kiddie coaster, Jr. Gemini, In their coaster count. I believe woodstock express is considered a family coaster, and yes, that is already included in the existing 15 coasters too.

(2) reopening a closed thread can upset the mods.. be careful.

(3) Why did you start this thread in the Area 51 topic?

(4) The SFMM/CP debate about what a coaster is or is not is a heated debate... This thread may get closed also.

if it does, it does. anways....

bluestreak

meanstreak

raptor

disaster transport

demon drop

wicked twister

wildcat

iron dragon

corkscrew

magnum

millenium force

cedar creek mine ride

power tower

mantis

gemini

cp has the list right here (minus wicked twister)

http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill/powertower/index.cfm

Oh.... All those rides are definately considered "Thrill Rides." However, Demon Drop (Intamin 1st generation free fall)and Power Tower (S&S Power Space Shot & Turbo Drop) are not considered Coasters by any Park or Enthusiast Group.

Here are the coasters at SFMM: Revolution, Flashback, Viper, X, Deja Vu, Psyclone, Ninja, Superman, Riddler's Revenge, Batman, Colossus, Goliath, Goliath Jr, Canyon Blaster, Flashback. That's 15. However, Colossus is a twin-tracked racer, so SFMM counts that as two. Now they're adding the flyer, so they'll have 17. SFMM does not count they're Intamin 1st gen freefall.

Also, Flashback is currently SBNO.

i remember when cedar point used to sell t-shirts with their ten coasters on it, and demon drop was one of them. maybe they have since changed their mind, but i specifically remember that. also, i dont understnad how superman can count as a coaster but the demon drop doesnt. tehy both carry you up and drop you down. i know its a different launch, and a bigger thrill, but i dont see a track difference. also, you can count free falls as coasters? isnt that the basic concept of a roller coaster? carry you up a track and then let gravity take it from there. i guess i could see power tower not being a coaster, but i definately think demon drop is. and shivering tim, does that mean we COULD count gemini as two rides? i dont think we do though.
Also CP has a racing coaster the Gemini, two tracks ,count them.
never jmind my previous statement already stated ealier
Yes, I'm also vexed as to why the 1st generation free-falls aren't considered coasters when the reverse free-falls are. SFMM also has one of these simply named Free Fall.

PKI a few years back tried to count The Racer as two coasters and people went spastic. I don't think that SFMM counts Collosus as two, so next year, with their new coaster they will still be matched at 16.

...Denial is an ugly thing.

Over the last few years, I have come to rely on the opinion of the people who run RCDB.COM as to what is or isn't a coaster. For CP, RCDB does NOT list Demon Drop or Power Tower. They also do not list SFMM's Twin Track coaster as two. According to RCDB, the two new rides at each of these parks will bring each of their coaster counts to 16.
SFMM isn't getting a flyer, their getting a floorless. That's what it says on Screamscape.
The exact link is here.

Hey rollerderby, there is a topic just like this one already in the General topic, so i suggest to read some of the other threads before starting one exactly like the other one. It pisses mods and other people off when you just go throwing in the same thread in another topic. Just a suggestion.

Welcome to the Magnum XL-200, the coaster featured most on the Discovery Channel.

I think this thread should be moved to the 'Deep, Insightful original thought' forum.

i know this is off topic, but hey!this topic isnt even supposed to be here!...coasta playa, where did you go anyway for 47 coasters in 6 days? just wondering, im interested in doing something like that in a couple years...

there is no reason this thread should not be here. in all of the posts im reading from other people in area 51, they discuss about cedar point trying to regain control of the most coasters in any park. people are always throwing out numbers and what does and does not count. i wanted to know for sure if certain coasters counted and why. apparantly im not the only one who thinks so, and it hasnt upset anyone because it is still up. maybe its good to have another category in here without someone complaining about a l-th-b.
Let's rewind a little...

No it wasn't taken down. It's still here--just in the 'General' forum (not area 51) courtesy of another genius with an original thought. You'll find it creatively titled 'Cedar Point ties for most coasters.'

Don't make me use this thing...
