Clueless employees at CP...

Does anyone feel like some of the CP employees seem completely clueless when you ask them questions? Now, I'm not saying all of them, but it just seems like food vendors and the sweeps seem rather clueless to things. The other day for example in Frontier Town I ask a guy changing the garbage can bag if he knows of any air conditioned spots to sit down in Frontier Town and he replies with a "I don't know." It's like.... ok, you may not know, but giving me that answer seems unprofessional. I mean at least make up an excuse saying you're new or something, or even direct me to someone who would know.

Now, most employees at CP seem to know what they are doing, especially the ride ops, but I just question some of them... I mean if you're working at the park you should at least know where everything in the park actually is... I mean sometimes I even feel like I know more and I don't even work there!

So why did you have to ask him a question if you know more than him?

The word "sometimes" was there for a reason.

I would say the majority of the time if you want to ask someone a question at the Point you need to ask a ride host or a sweep. Otherwise you're most likely going to get someone who isn't as into their job.

I would also like to say that it isn't the training or anything that is letting those people down either because one of the firs things we are told is to never say, "I don't know." Instead we are instructed to say, "I don't know, but let me help you find someone who does."

You get what you pay for ... which would be marginally more than minimum wage!

^And who told you that!?

Really? The average ride ops person? They are paying a lot better than they did when I worked there then. I mean, relative to minimum wage. Obviously half of the current minimum isn't going to cut it. #darkAges

AFAIK, most ride op's make minimum wage. If it is the same as it was a few years ago, ATL's made 25 cents more and TL's 50 cents more.

Not sure about supervisors and all that though.

... this is news to me.

2010: Millennium Force & Mantis
2011: Raptor
2012: Raptor, Sky Ride and Wicked Twister
2013: Co-Team Leader of Sky Ride
2014: Supervisor of Slingshot/Skyscraper

Most cp employees barely make minimum wage.

You are very well misinformed. Everyone you see who wears a tag that isn't blue makes min. wage. If they have a blue tag then most likely they make at most $.25 more than min wage. There are some exceptions for supervisors, but this is mostly true.

Back when, AGL's made 20 cents more and GL's 45 cents more. Even I thought that difference would be a little bit more seeing as min wage is about double. (G = Group, I've seen TL/ATL around here, are they calling it "Team" these days? I was an AGL one year.)

And tcgolfer makes a good point ... if you want a good answer to a question, it might be worth your while to seek someone wearing a blue name tag, those are TL/ATLs. Red is normal, green are minors.

Maintenance dept. makes considerably more, but the seasonal ones probably don't even make $10 an hour.

I resent that! 3rd incharges know what they're talking about too! :)

When I worked at CP I was obsessed with the place and so I wanted to know as much as I could about it. But the park is so huge that it takes a long, long time to know where every restaurant and food stand is and what they sell, where each restroom is, etc. I was a sweep but since I mostly only worked one area of the park I really didn't know much about what was going on in the other sections.

I'm sure for the employees who aren't totally crazy about the park, they make even less of an effort to know all there is to know about it.

When I worked there, we were trained NOT to say "I don't know" to any question we were asked. If we didn't know the answer then we were supposed to call a supervisor or find another employee who might know. But to be honest not all employees are going to feel like going that extra mile. It's a good point about minimum wage. When a place only wants to pay their employees the bare minimum, guess what? They are going to get employees who are only interested in doing the bare minimum when it comes to their job. (Not ALL, of course. It is just in some people's nature to go above and beyond no matter what). I know it stinks to come across unhelpful, disinterested employees but blame the company.

I was told by our Kings Island tour guide last week, who was a ride supervisor, that ride ops make minimum, ride supervisors make $9 an hour, and bathroom sweeps are the highest starting position at $9. Live Entertainment makes much more.

Plenty of knowledable purple tags :) They are just a little harder to pick on based on the color of their nametag.

Yeah almost all seasonal employees make min wage or slightly over (.50 cents over). Some departments employee seasonals that make around $10 (Live E, HR, Security, Maintenance, ect.) But pretty much anyone you find out in the park that is in a uniform and not street clothes with a name tag are going to make min wage.

And BTW air conditioning in the back of the park is available in First Aid, Palace Theater, Last Chance Saloon, and the Ice Cream place (which I can't remember the name). I think Chick-Fil-A is air conditioned but the doors are ALWAYS open so not sure. Oh and the Jitney Arcade is air conditioned also.

On the other end of the trail or best best is probably Red Garter or Panda Express
