What does that have to do with Geauga Lake?
Your post makes no sense. Was there are reason you needed to post that? It really makes you look like a fool.
^^
I'm pretty sure someone deleted their post above his and below yours.
No need to call names.

The old water-park really does need a clean up. If it were even done in stages I'd be happy.
Year 1: Rip out slides and other above ground structures.
Year 2: Rip out concrete at turtle beach and old Shark Attack slide.
Year 3: Rip out wave pool and concrete pool by Hurricane Mountain. Plant grass.

Thank you Loopy. I believe it was Jerreus that posted something to the effect of "I love how clean Cedar Point is and that they have garbage cans every five feet". Had he left his post there, mine would have made perfect sense. But, since he realized he didn't read the thread or title of the forum and his post DIDN'T have anything to do with Geauga Lake like I said, he deleted it.
But, thanks for saying I look like a fool. I get that a lot. :)
Gomez I don't agree with your view at all from the point of view that GLP was not, is not and will never be a thrill park like CP. And i only single you out from the rest because you were the last to make this point. (But from time to time i feel that the other side needs to be pointed out).
And that other side is that GLP was a successful park in its own right before all this hullabaloo with Six Flags began.
From the late 80s on the park was drawing more than a million annually. The goal of an annual attendance of 1.25 million isn't outrageous, it's what the goal should be.
Ivy Rose touched on the demographic seen at GLP during its height, but that wasn't the only group there. It was also a good place for families out for an afternoon who didn't want to travel across state to the point.
And that's where CF is failing in the same way as SFI. They're pricing themselves right out of their market of consumers. This is a family park for a family afternoon. GLP's prices should be among the lowest for any summertime entertainment venue, period. Funtime had a lot of fiscal success in running a dumpy little park, and that potential is still there. It's not like the NE Ohio market has changed in the last thirty years.

Pricing themselves out of the market? At $27? I don't think so.

While $27 in and of itself is a bargain for all the park has to offer, things like parking are still fairly expensive for the market that I think they are trying to capture. If Geauga Lake is going to be the "Cheaper, but still fun alternative," I think a modest decrease in parking and some of the concessions would work really well for them. Lowering parking to $5, and marketing the heck out of it could do wonders for PR, and hopefully boost attendance.
Personally, I think something that would add HUGE value to the price of admission, but would not cost the park very much to operate is a picnic area right off the main gate, with grills, just like what Cedar Point has. With Geauga Lake being a "picnic park," I think such a pavilion would do really well. And yes, I know there is a picnic area near Villain, but you would need to look for it, and I don't think they allow grilling (though I may be wrong). Heck, getting back on topic, the former location of X-Flight would be a great place to put a small picnic pavilion.

I tend to agree with Jeff... Indiana Beach, which is a fun park, but doesn't have quite the collection as Geauga Lake is 31 dollars for a water park/ride park combo, plus 2.50 for Park Admission. Granted they have free parking, but even adding parking to GL's costs and the two are comparable. Although I love Indiana Beach, they can't boast in a great B&M Floorless, and GL has several other unique attractions.
I think the price point is just right.

Perhaps i wasn't clear in that i was refering to the cost of everything but the gate. It wasn't too long ago when we were selling a regular hot dog for $1.85 (1999, or $2.17 in 2006 dollars.) When the park increased all of its pricing in 2000 and 2001 it priced itself out of its traditional market and role as a day park for those looking to not drop a ton at the point. Outside the waterpark, CF hasn't made any real attempt to recapture that from what i can see.
Even if i'm wrong about the cost of the day at the park 'pricing' the park out of its market (which i'm not), that doesn't change that GLP can and should be drawing over a million annually. Dispite all the other things going on around here the population and spending power for the region hasn't changed over the past decade.

Perhaps people are forgetting that it was the water park that caused Geauga Lake to be anything in the first place. It was the beach, The Wave and a handful of slides that were packing them in back in the 80's. No one went there for the roller coasters, save for maybe 2000 when someone at Six Flags lost their mind.
I'll never forget going the year The Wave opened. No one had ever seen anything like it. It was on the news quite a bit that year.

We always went to Sea World when I was young, for some reason we didn't make it across the lake much.

I loved the wave when I was a kid. The thing was huge. 2 million gallons. Considering the new one is 390,000 gallons the old one must have dwarfed this one. I just don't remember it that well. I was pretty young then.

Also don't forget that just about every company from the river to PA had their company picnic there at at least every other year. Sure the water park drove season passes, but the picnics drove the park's revenue (and per cap).
Even this fine waterpark won't save CF and GLP if they don't change the perception of value on the park (as in the lack of value). And i've yet to see the waterpark that was worth 27 bucks a day.

But, if you want to go to a water park in the Cleveland area, your choices are somewhat limited. And your not paying $27 just for the waterpark.

^Exactly..i think that GL needs more coasters though..they really dont have much of a selection.

Maybe Cedar Fair has something up their sleeves for Geauga Lake in the future. Depending on how all the rest of the 12 parks does this year and the next year, they could still put something unique in. It doesn't exactly have to be record breaking, just something fun like what X-Flight and Steel Venom provided.
