I've already made plans to go there in july just to ride i305 and volcano
I WILL ALWAYS KICK THE SKY.
I'll be down there in 12 days for I-305, Volcano, and Dominator. Never been on any of them. Looking forward to it. On another note, I-305 didn't even make the top 10 last year. IIRC, it was 11. While not unheard of, I would be surprised to see it win the award this year considering how many spots it needs to jump.

That's a good point... Maybe it will be #1 in a couple of years when more people have had a chance to take the new version for a spin.
I would highly recommend the back seat. The front seat is also amazing, but the back seat is the best for the first drop!!!
I've been on the origninal I-305 and it did not hold a candle to Millennium Force. I-305 had a lot more intensity than Millennium but those who played Roller Coaster Tycoon know that HIGH intensity does not always equal a good popular ride :)

The new verion is better than the original. The new turn is actually better than the original and the grey out sensation is still there. It also feels faster than the original for some reason (maybe new wheels or something since they were melting off last year). The trims on the 3rd hill are barely noticeable. Last year, the original trims on the 3rd hill killed the enitre last part of the ride. The new version feels as if it is trimless and that you are traveling 94-96mph through the entire ride. Trust me, before I rode it, I felt the same way you did. After my first ride on the new version, I looked at my friend beside me and we both said... "Way better the Millennium Force!!!" Then I proceeded to call jinx. He wasn't allowed to talk for the rest of the day until my girlfriend said his first name 5 times and ruined my jinx!!! UGHH! Women!!!
The fact that it made #11 in it's first year is pretty impressive. First year coasters have the disadvantage of lower ridership. By that I mean that, the people who vote don't necessarily make it to every new coaster each year. The good coasters usually see a decent bump in rank in their 2nd year.

They do get a bump, but it isn't usually that extreme. I'm not sure a coaster has ever jumped ten spots. Regardless, TTD also scored #11 in its opening year, but it never got higher than #7. Of course, MF has never scored less than two, but that's probably it was the first giga coaster. Do I think I-305 will be in the top 10 this year? Absolutely. Will it be #1? Not a chance.

Out of curiosity, how intense is the gray out? Are you ever completely blind? I don't really fancy anything more intense than the white-out I get on MF's overbank every once in a while, but as long as I make it off in one piece, I'll ride it. :)

It's hard to explain the grey out... No you're not completely blind, and yes it is kinda uncomfortable. But, the uncomfortable part shoots adrenaline through your whole body on top of the tons of adrenaline it has already produced going up the very fast lift and the first drop. And another weird thing is that people grey out on different parts. I grey out at the very bottom of the first drop and others grey out on the first turn going up the 150ft hill. And some people don't grey out at all, but I think it is because they scream and tense up their muscles like a fighter pilot is trained to do. I can't explain it via message board. You just have to take her for a spin yourself and see if you can explain it better. I'm not a poet. hahaha
We went opening day, and it was incredible! Rode it 5 times, every ride on it was great! Go ride it...I'll ride MF again when I have my first day off during the season and be able to compare better!
It's unfair you guys live so close to CP. I guess I shouldn't complain since I have I305 in my backyard, boy do I miss MF!!! It will be a year since I've been to CP because I have been making trips to other parks. I missing out on CP again this year because I am going to SFMM and Vegas. I'm hoping CP will get a new coaster in 2012 when I make the trip hoping they one up I305. I can't even imagine what they have in store...
Back from I-305 and wow, what a ride! However. I still believe MF is the better ride because of the tunnels, restraints, and environment. Too each his own, however.
This argument has been brought up many times before, and it always has the same conclusion: Regardless if the ride is Mean Streak, Mantis, or Intimidator 305, even slowing the ride to a complete stop at the top would have very little impact on the maximum velocity. I'm sure there are other posts that explain it in more detail though.
Trim are on a few positions on I-305. They did remove the ones on the first drop, but the ones on the small hills at the end are still there. You don't notice them much though.
firefox15, did you have a chance to ride the original I305? If so, don't you agree this new version is better. The first turn is kinda wicked feeling (it feels like a bunny hump as you ascend). The trims on the 3rd hill you can barely noticed. When it first opened, that 3rd hill trim killed the last part of the ride.
The only thing I can think of that MF tops is the restraints/trains. You obviously need the straps for I305 or you would break your back in half on the transitions.
I305 has "hands down" the best drop in the world! I think it also looks better... Structurally and paint job.
No, this was my first time riding it. Like I said though, it's a great ride, and I can appreciate it. I rode it five times or so. That said, I feel it was built with only intensity in mind while MF was built to be an all-around amazing coaster. Is I-305 more intense? Oh yes, no question. I felt like I was going to fly off the track. But is it the better ride? I don't think so.
Yes. it has a slightly steeper drop, but I don't feel it was *that* much better of a drop than MF. Perhaps if it were like Maverick and were 90+ degrees or something. Intensity isn't everything in a coaster. If it were, I would simply ride MF and TTD all day long and forget the rest.
Also, I was expecting loads of airtime from the posts I had seen, but honestly, it wasn't that much to me. I think the train was going so fast that I didn't notice it much. To me, Magnum's ejector air is far more intense. Since we are comparing it to MF though, I agree that it has more than MF since MF doesn't have any that I can tell. My GF can feel airtime on MF, but personally I cannot.
As far as looks, I'm not sure it's fair to compare the paint when MF's paint is now 11 years old while I-305's is only a year. It's two-tone look could look nicer than MF's solid blue, but I'll wait to see MF's new paint to make that call. I'll concede that the structure looks amazing with that new steel Intamin is using, but I feel the layout is better on MF--tunnels, overbanks, view of the lake, etc.
Honestly, I fully intended on replacing MF with I-305 as my favorite coaster, but after I rode it a few times, I decided it just wasn't as good as I thought it would be. We'll see if I'm just not remembering MF correctly though. I'm going tomorrow, so perhaps I'll ride it and feel I-305 was better. However, I'm guessing I'll maintain that MF is my favorite, and I'm guessing Amusement Today will agree.
Back from CP, and MF is everything I thought it would be. Hands down, the best coaster in my book. I don't know why, but I felt the drop was more intense than I-305 too. Maybe because I-305 goes so quickly over the lift hill or something? Honestly, it's probably just because I'm used to it, but I'm glad we are both near coasters we like. :)
