Chick-Fil-A Building

The hope is that, if you do have info on the subject, it can be relayed without negative sarcasm or inferring that the person you are responding to is stupid. Of course, that's a very hard thing for some people to do.

Cedar Fair owns all resturants inside and outside of the park. For instance, they own the DQ too.

I know they own Dairy Queen. But, I didn't think they had McDonald's too.

How long has that McDonalds been there? It would be nice if they remodeled it to make it look like all the others they are remodeling.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

The McDonalds is owned...property and business...by either McDonalds Corp. or one of its franchisees. Erie County GIS lists McDonalds as the owner, but gives a mailing address for TSGS Inc., with a Milan Rd. address which turns out to be the McDonalds location in front of Sandusky Mall, so I suspect the property is owned by the franchisee.

The DQ is a franchise owned by Cedar Point.

It took me about ten minutes to learn all of this, and about half that time was spent working around the incompatibility problem between my iPad and the Erie County GIS map. Had I got up off the couch and used my real computer, it would have taken only a couple of minutes. If you are a regular reader of PointBuzz, you have seen discussion of these tools before, so you should have known where to look. 8-)

--Dave Althoff, Jr., who was surprised to learn that Cedar Point apparently owns "all restaurants inside and outside the park." So they AREN'T all going to be Taco Bell?

It was indeed. I wondered if anybody would recognize it!

Twenty years ago, places like Friday's and Olive Garden were pretty OK restaurants. Hell, even Applebee's wasn't bad. At some point, they stopped cooking food and started microwaving it, and shipping more frozen crap than real food. More recent casualties include places like Macaroni Grill.

I wouldn't claim that local restaurants are better. It just depends. We spent the better part of two years looking for good places to eat in the Seattle area, where people are outright hostile toward franchises and chains (which means Wal-Mart locations are rare, so that's a good thing). We had a whole lot of mediocre meals. We eventually found a few favorites, but as a percentage, there weren't many.

People like familiar, and unfortunately they seem to prefer familiar crap. That's the only way I can explain McDonald's and Applebee's. I know for a fact that the Chick-Fil-A did several times the business of the pizza place (or whatever used to be there) and that was with a day less every week.

National chains aren't all bad. Red Robin is a consistent burger joint that's kid friendly (if not the cleanest). Famous Dave's does a nice job with savory, saucy food. Carrabba's is not bad, and has a nice wine selection. I think the simplicity, supply chain and quality of Chipotle has created an entirely new category that no one else has been able to match yet.

And I echo the B Spot love. Really good stuff.

^ I second that opinion of the Famous Dave's/Red Robin food. We eat at the FD by the CP marina a few times a year. You'll be happy to know that the B-spot at Westlake Crocker Park just added a kids menu (which I never thought I'd see), not sure of the Strongsville or other locations though. I would like to see a 2nd Berardi's location, like the one in Huron (inside the park). They have some of the best fries/ perch I've ever had. A in&out burger or Five guys wouldn't be bad either.

Cleveland is really becoming a culinary hot spot. Outside of casual places like B-spot and Melt, Cleveland has a ton of really good independent restaurants with some high powered chefs. Great stuff.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Cleveland needs at least one thing about it that doesn't suck. :)

Yes, the Strongsville location does have the kids menu as well, and like the adult menu, it's very reasonable. They too have a very simple line, but the margin is clearly in the milkshakes and beverages.

I took my first bar-hopping trip to Cleveland about a month ago and was pleasantly surprised. There's lots of great stuff in that town, all very closely packed together.

And of course it never hurts to have a Tilted Kilt in the neighborhood...

That's the thing about Cleveland, nobody really knows too much about it's true beauty and the fun you can have there.

How about a Cracker Barrel?

Another awesome burger restaurant is Fuddrucker's. It still holds a honor of a place that when I took my first bite out my massive 1# burger my first thought and what I said was wow this burger has taste. It taste like a freshly ground burger that actually was juicy and not fat juice.

It takes a lot to say this by working in the food industry off an on, and overall enjoy any type of food.

BTW I did complete my burger and loaded fries in about 20 minutes and ordered another one to-go it was that good.

City BBQ is something I could see in that spot. I don't know if people would pay for raised Cedar Point prices.

Don't perpetuate the nonsense that Detroit has nothing to offer. Being from Lincoln Park, you should know better. :)

That's strange, because they actually used to grind their cow up fresh, right there in the restaurant. I'm not sure if all locations abandoned the practice, but ever since our local Fuddrucker's stopped using fresh beef, the quality is absolutely nothing special.
