Chaos Collapse Report

The park knew about the cable before it broke. They gambled and hoped it would last until the end of the weekend. It didn't.

The Millennium Force cable might have made it until Monday night. And if it didn't it wouldn't hurt anybody. It almost made it; nobody got hurt. Cedar Point didn't win with their gamble, but they didn't exactly lose, either. How many thousands of people got to experience Millennium Force who wouldn't have had that opportunity if CP hadn't taken that calculated risk?
CP didn't do what purists would call "the right thing." But I think hindsight tells us they really made the right decision.

Oh, ok Jeff.  Thanks for clearing that up for me.  I just figured that with something like a cable that big and stuff that they couldn't have seen it coming.  Knowing that, my safety concerns are even more at ease now.  They obviously would not have put anyone on the ride if they thought that it was going to injure anyone, but they did allow more people to ride.

Mantis Crew '02 - Where's the unload station at?!? ;-)
I remember when I heard of the cable snapping because the MF was closed for awhile. I was supposed to go to the point around that time and I hoped that the force would be up and running. The day I went to the point was the day that they were going to get it back and running again. They didn't start it until the afternoon but I did get to ride it and I didn't care about the problem. Which brings me to my point. I trust the maintenance crew at CP. If I didn't, then there is no way you would even get me to ride Cedar Downs. I ride everything at Cedar Point and I always will. When the MF was up and running again on that day, I was right in line with my girlfriend, along with many other people who were excited for the re-opening. These little accidents do happen, but they have so many back up plans to make sure nothing horrible really happens. I didn't get to ride Vertigo last season and if get the chance this year, I will. Part of the tower fell and it will get fixed just fine. Cedar Point has a good track record on safety. They have to have one if they run 15 coasters with the majority of them exceding the 150 ft. mark. I have never felt unsafe in a ride at Cedar Point and never will. I will even ride the chaos because I still love that ride as long as it's still there.
Let's hope Cedar Fair implements it's same maintenance procedures at Michigan's Adventure.  I doubt MA was up to speed at the time Chaos collapsed.
