When I was passing Chaos, the ride was in it's full upright and spinning mode when a very large part of it's mechanism FELL OUT! It made a loud crash, sent the riders in the Q running and yelling and the ride stopped dead in the upright position. It was a large, black piece approx. four to five feet tall and maybe two feet across and appeared to be either a motor or transmission or a combination of the two. I really did think it was going to be Michigan again. About six or so police and six or eight operation/maint. guy got their quickly. After getting the piece out from under the lift piston (that is where it fell to) with a fork lift, they lowered the ride and got the people off. Only one left in the little "ambulance" and he appeared to have an arm injury.
My guess is today is that last day that any Chaos will operate in a Cedar Fair park. Between Michigan last year and this today, my guess is that's enough.

Take a Chance on Chaos. Sorry, had to say it.
I tend to wanna wait for some official word in cases like this.

WOW! I was there Monday night waiting while my friends were riding Chaos. I made a comment to them after their ride about hearing a strange noise coming from the ride. Hmm...notice I was "waiting" for them and not riding. I never liked that ride much. It was late in the day, around 9:30 or so, I doubt this noise I heard is related to this, but it makes me wonder.

Hey, I'm from Florida.
I rode it last year, I frankly I wont again. I can do the coasters all day and not get sick, but just one sping on Chaos and I'm out for the day.
Its sad though. It was a good flat ride addition.

OK Laura, just an observation -- but don't you have three kids?

My friend commented to me that he thought that the weather was trippy. I said "Perhaps it is not the weather that is trippy, but perhaps instead it is merely our perception of the weather that is trippy".
Then I realized I should have just said "yeah".
No...I have a 15 year old daughter and a 10 year old son. However; sometimes my daughter brings along a friend!
::laugh:: The best things in life come in three's though, I guess! hehehe
No more kiddo's for me... I got my boy and girl!!! Couldn't ask for anything more.... except for Chaos to become a reliable ride!!! It's one of my favorites!!! ::smile::

Why not trust the ride? From the descriptions here, nothing really bad happened. A part of the drive system fell off for some reason causing the wheel to stop. Riders waited until maintenance lowered the wheel manually. Am I missing something here? I don't get what the big deal is, this was not a structural failure like at MA.------------------
Parts flying off the ride while in operation is not a big deal? It would be a big deal to you had you been on it when it happened. From what I gather people standing in line were lucky not to have been hurt while waiting. A close call.-Craig
