Changed Your Mind on Ride Removal???

In years past I have brought up the fact that I wish CP would stop ripping out trees in favor of new rides. A better solution would be to remove old or outdated rides and replace them with modern ones. Many of you have strongly disagreed. With PKI removing two major rides in the last two seasons in favor of new development, have you changed your tune about CP doing the same? I love all of CP's rides just like you do, but I'm sure people in Cincinnati loved the rides PKI ripped out too. Nothing lasts forever. For example, would you be upset if CP dismantled Mine Ride in favor of a Seizmic Floorless or a B&M Flyer?

Note: this is not a space argument

It's my opinion that CP won't tear out Mine Ride until they have a similar type ride to replace it with. This is a great ride for young beginners to start out on because it doesn't have a giant hill, and doesn't go relatively fast, but yet is fun for the younger crowd. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing it go, however, the new ride would have to fit into the already established theme of Frontier Town. And Mine Ride does that right now.

I can't imagine Mine Ride ever being removed in favor of a newer ride. It's such a fixture in that area of the park, removing would ruin one of the most unique and beautiful areas of the park. I guess this falls into the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" catagory.

why would they wanna remove it anyway when they just invested a million dollars in it a couple years ago?

He didn't say anything about Mine Ride.

It entirely depends on the ride, I suppose. Most every ride at the park serves some purpose or targets some group of people. PKI's situation was different in that one ride was allegedly a maintenance nightmare, the other was just outright redundant with three flumes in the park.

I agree with Jeff. *gasp* ;)

It makes no sense to remove an older ride just to replace it with a new ride. There would have to be some other reason to remove the ride.

Can you say Vertigo?

I don't think it has to be trees vs rides. A lot of wooded areas have gone away in favor of new rides but trees can be added in a lot of exisiting spaces . Look at Kiddy Kingdom for example. There's not really any trees or any kind of exciting landscape. A few trees would really spruce the area up, add some shade, and not require removing any rides.

Previously (meaning 20-25 years ago) the wooded areas of the park gave the impression that this was an amusement park carved out of the wilderness (more or less). CP no longer gives that impression. To me it was part of the charm - that there were these unexplored areas (possibly with wildlife) around the park - unfulfilled potential. Now it feels more like fulfilled potential, and that's not as provocative to the imagination.

I'm a big supporter of the "no removal" theory to be honest and have made that clear over the years here on Guide. CCMR was my 1st ever coaster when I was a wee little Sparty and I would feel empty should it ever go. Coasters at CP all have something unique to offer the public and are very diverse in the thrills they give. I see CP never removing a coaster unless its a hazard, danger, or as Jeff mentioned earlier a maintenance nightmare to upkeep and history pretty much dictates that..Now before people jump down my throat, I said Coaster not rides in general.

As much as I love new rides and welcome everything new in thrill riding , the sentimental sparty in me still loves CP for its rich history and memories which all come from its historic coasters!

Cedar Point does need to add more trees to shade the midways a little more espeically the main midway. While I agree that they are not very likely to take out Mine Ride but I think Cedar pount is still a very fine place to visit and the rides are Excelelnt but of course keep the coaster coming.

I don't think Cedar Point should take out any rides in favor of new ones. I think all the old ones give it a County Fair like feel. If they get new rides that you can also find at county fairs that would be neat too. I personally think that(while there is still plenty for the family to do) Cedar Point needs to slow down on their coaster building. Yes it's cool that they have new thrill rides and coasters, but roller coaster park is a really boring idea. Maybe they could actually build a new theatre, revive the frontier trail. Maybe add another family oriented ride. I think the last all family oriented ride they put in was Snake River Falls. I won't count Camp Snoopy since that is a kiddie area, and Chaos to me is probably too intense for the whole family. Plus on Snak River the entire family can sit down on one seat/bench and ride together.

If anything CP mostly moves things, such as the barn in the petting zoo. CP even does a good job of reusing old things, such as the lighthouse being turned into a gift shop, Fort Sandusky being turned into a leather shop, and the I-max theater into an ice-rink! CP does a great job of maintaining most of its history. MR does serve a purpose just as Jeff said being targeted for younger/family audiences. I believe that came up a while ago in another thread. MR, as along with ID, or DT adds a different expeirence. So I wouldn't be in favor of removal. Dodgems, made sense since there are two! Although I would have prefered the one on the midway to go, since the other is by camp snoopy. Flisk maybe there will be a family restaurant (rumor?):-), or ride were the dodgems are!

My biggest concern is that P&D keeps the trees on beach midway in the highest regard. Those are some of the older trees out there, and I would be most displeased if they were to go away. That midway, for whatever it has in store, must be very carefully developed.

Very true Jeff But I think they would be able to make it so there are trees and shading without having to create any sort of problems.

"Friends Don't Let Friends Go To Six Flags."

My opinion about removals is along the lines of JefferySpartan and Jeff. One of the reasons CP is so successfull, is that it has VARIETY. By removing rides, the variety decreases. The justification to removing rides is if they were redundant, like the PKI example stated above. This is how CP plans most of the time. Here are some CP examples:1. removing double ferris wheel (already have a ferris wheel)2. removing the Log ride. (already have White Water Landing) 3. removing Frontier Lift (already have a sky ride)

Hey CPcyclone...Not true about ride removal at all...Just because CP "has another one" doesn't mean one will be removed...see Cadillac Cars and Antique Cars...What is looked at is maintence, age of ride, Ride CAPACITY, what if anything can/will be put in the vacant space, along with a few other variables.

Mill Race was removed to make way for RAPTOR and the ride structure needed extensive overall, remember Mill Race was built in 1963(?) so it had over 30 years of operation.

Saying CP removes a ride becasue it has another one like it is way to simple. Believe it or not there is system to removal and duplicates is not it.

I for one would be sad to see many rides go that I have always considered a part of CP...I would especially like to never see the blue streak depart because that was my first ride ever at CP...My dad rode it as his first ride as a kid in the first year it opened...He always to this day still tells me how huge blue streak looked to him and everyone else when it first opened...Now it looks so small with a low level of excitement being overshadowed by Raptor...But I think the blue streak is actually very exciting because all of those bunnyhops give you that flying out of your seat feeling...I love the classic rides at CP and I am against the removal part

Jeff's right. I only brought up Mine Ride as a "what if", not literally. I was actually refering to any old (or oudated) ride at the park. Great feedback, keep it coming.
Although I agree that maintenance and age has something to do with ride removal decisions, I can't believe that duplicate and redundant rides don't also play a part. Cedar Point got rid of the Trabant (just like the Schwabichen) and the Tiki Twirl (just like Calypso) even though I don't remember either of those rides having any particular maintenance concerns. The other rides pointed out above also seem to indicate that repeated rides throughout the park are one (of many) considerations that the park gives in removals.

And they have removed many other rides in the past as well. Good old Jumbo Jet, which was a coaster. The rocket ride, pirate ride, Earthquake, upside-down funhouse. These were not duplicates at all. In fact, I really miss some of these rides.

I would sincerely protest the removal of Blue Streak or CCMR, the two rides that turned me into the coaster nut I am today.
