Why did they change Banshee to Mantis?? I never knew what happened.

-------------
i am probably wrong, so correct me nicely if i am...but i had heard that some people protested the name Banshee because it means "death"...and CP didn't want to offend a large part of the general population....that's what i heard and i thought it was so stupid i laughed. this came from someone i met at CP who was wearing a Banshee pin and when we asked about it we were told that story. true? don't know..but they seemed toknow what they were talking about.

I remember hearing the same thing too, servo. If that was the case, then why did they go ahead with names like: Ghostrider, Steel Phantom, Exterminator, etc.. those are all associated with death, aren't they?

What I plan to do with the MF merchandise is what I did with that Magnum 10 year anniversary stuff last year. Buy two of eveything, have a set of stuff to use and have a set of stuff to put away. Though in the case of MF I will buy three or four more items :)

well seven, i was hoping to not have to get into this part of it, so in advance, NO OFFENSE INTENDED HERE....apparently there is a large contingency of born-again Christians and Baptists and such out there in Sandusky and THEY are the ones who protested. if you notice, CP has NO rides with names even remotely resembling death (except for DT, which,IMHO, barely qualifies). kind of makes me wonder if CP ever wanted a dark ride..would the same folks who supposedly put the stops on Banshee also do the same thing???
Remember, this is just SECOND-HAND info here, only what i heard...so if it offended anyone's religion, i am sorry..i am Catholic, so i could see both sides, but since i am well-lapsed, i really don't care WHAT they call the rides as long as they're fun and safe.

Servo..your pretty much dead on..I was told a story very similar to the one heard by you regarding "certain groups" being offended..so your in the ballpark with your story..Of course just because all our stories are similar still does not mean they are gospel..Every thing is hear say that doesn't come from the horses mouth...What have you heard on this name change story Jeff?? Just wondering

Anybody interested can go here to view what the "original" Banshee logo was to look like for those that have not seen the many shirts floating around..
