Cell phones

I was just curious about CP policies on employees having / using cell phones while on duty. The reason I ask is that I just lodged a complaint with PKI's guest services about one of their ops. The guy in the controller's booth on Face/Off was on his cell phone for two full ride cycles. I talked to the area manager, and he assured me that this was a serious matter and would be dealt with. But then he told me that this was a industry wide problem, and PKI had very little power to stop their employees from carrying cell phones. He said their policy was just that the phone should be turned off.

Now to the reason I'm posting this on a CP board. My assumption, having worked at CP in the past, is that this would NEVER happen at CP. This manager tried to tell me their standards were as high as CP's and I just laughed. My guess is that a CP employee would be written up for even HAVING a cell phone while on duty. Am I correct?

The Cedar Fair policy is that we must have cell phones in our locker while working, but really, they won't care one bit if the phone's off and in our pocket. If it's just in the pocket and doesn't come out or ring except during breaks, its no harm. I've been with a shift leader (aka team leader) when another employee's phone went off (it was before the park opened). Apparently, someone else in the dept called him, so the person who got the call told the Shift leader who called him and the person who called him was warned, not written up. Keep in mind this was like 2 hours before park opening and we were all talking anyways (its allowed when you're pushing water).
You can have a cell phone on you, but it has to be turned off and either in a back pack in your locker or in your pocket out of site. When you are on your breaks, is when you can use it cause by then you will be out of the guests site. This is what I know from my past experience.

I wouldn't expect anybody to care if its in your pocket, or a backpack. As long as it's out of sight, and definately that you're not using it in front of guests. What I see at PKI (besides the above incident) is employees wearing them on the belts, in plain view. And this is OK according to their policy. Glad to see CP maintains consistantly superior standards. I know it's a pain sometimes (I had to hide my mop of hair under a hat when I was there) but from a guest's point of view it makes a huge difference.
