Cedar Point/Put N Bay

Hello all! We will be heading to Put N Bay this summer during Father's Day weekend. Was kind of disappointed to see the Jet Express does not travel between CP and Put N Bay on Saturdays? Seems so strange because I feel like that's when most of there money would come in... May be hard to make a CP trip over that weekend with no boats on Saturday...

Assuming we would have to take the car and ferry to Sandusky and drive from there...

The boats are filled to capacity at the downtown Jet Express Sandusky dock, that is probably the reason they don't stop at CP on Saturdays. Like I said, the boats sell out, so make sure you get there early for your desired time or reserve your ticket in advance.

Too bad! Any suggestions on Put N Bay? Is it really as wild as people say? :) Mid June should maybe not be too crazy?

Put-in-Bay can get wild but not every place on the island is like that. If you want a pool bar on the wilder side, go to Mist pool bar or Splash pool bar in the afternoon. A little more mellow but not much is the Sand Bar pool bar and Dizzy Lizard pool bar.

Some of the more active bars on the island are the Round House, the Boat House, Mojito Bay, Beer Barrel Saloon, Frosty Bar, Mr. Ed's and the Reel Bar.

If you want a more mellow time at Put-in-Bay go to The Keys, The Boardwalk, Dollar Winery, Heineman's Winery, Blue Luna, Rita's Cantina or Hooligan's.

Cool bars that are less mainstream and are local's favorites are Joe's Bar, Topsey Turvey Bar and Grill, Red Moon Speakeasy and Goat Soup and Whiskey.

Not to be missed for songs, comedy and fun: Mike "Mad Dog" Adams afternoons at the Round House and Ray Fogg evenings at the Reel Bar. Also great but more mellow, West Side Steve selected weekends at The Keys.

Best food probably at The Keys, The Boardwalk, Goat Soup and Whiskey and Holligan's.

This is just scratching the surface of places to go and things to do at Put-in-Bay. You can call it the Cedar Point for alcoholics. :)

Just curious Pete, do you use these posts to help settle tabs on the island. You know, for advertising for them. ;)

Pete,

Is the island friendly for families? I haven't been in 10 years.

Yes, it can be family friendly. You can tour the island via golf cart and visit tourist attractions like the Perry Monument, Perry's Cave, The Ohio State University Fish Hatchery, the Butterfly House and the Antique Car Museum.

The Keys or The Boardwalk are family friendly restaurants, there is also an ice cream shop and a carrousel. Lots of families go to PIB and seem to have a good time.

Thank you for the input Pete! We are staying at the waterfront condos, I think from bing maps it's kind of by the airport (if there is one on Put N Bay?)... looks to be about a mile from the downtown area.

They looks nice, I think they were just built a few years back. We were looking to get a boat for a day, thought about pontoons, but realized I guess those don't really work on the Great Lakes! LOL, we are used to these tiny other lakes in Michigan. Probably going to rent jet skis for a day.

Hey Pete, do you take your boat over to PIB or just ferry over? This is my first summer in the Cedar Point Marina. Looking forward to getting there to the CP Marina for the season! Boat is getting launched next week and will be a Bass Haven in Marblehead until May 1 it looks like.

Another option, if you don't mind a 30 min drive from CP to Port Clinton/Marblehead, is the Miller Ferry. It's not as nice of a boat, but honestly it's super laid back, and it's a much cheaper option. I'm a fan.

And yeah, like Pete said, Put-In-Bay can be as wild or tame as you want it to be. We went over last year for just a few beers and lunch, and it was a pleasant time. But a few years ago we went for a bachelor party. I'd use a different word than pleasant for that.

Hey Matt, I usually take my boat over and stay at either A Dock, C Dock or Park Place. You will enjoy staying at CP Marina, can't think of a better place to be. Some other members here have boats at the CP Marina. I'm on 1404, stop by for a beer if you like! 🍻

Im docked at 1259 and going in on May 3rd. Already counting down the days. Bay Harbor is a great place for cocktails and just hanging out by the fire ring.

Sounds great! We'll be in 1322 and usually have beverages on board as well so please do stop by! Look forward to meeting you guys this summer!

1317 here! Can't wait to get back in.

Will you guys start having your boats there this weekend? Or is there a date in May when everyone shows up? Still looks empty on the webcams.

The marina opens on May 1st so you will see boats going in starting then. We go in on May 3rd. I was out at the marina last weekend and lots activity around the marina and the park. We ate at Bay Harbor a couple of weekends ago and a big group had come over in their boat to eat.

One thing I noticed was that the park had been doing a lot of trenching for either electrical/data or possibly water lines around the marina parking lot.

Rumor is they are going to start accepting boats on April 28th now. Some people have said that's what the Cedar Point Marina is answering with now So fingers crossed I'm going to see if I can get over there this weekend. Was out on the lake this past Sunday and it was beautiful.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did start taking boats then. They were pressure washing the boat docks and putting in the jet ski docks on Saturday. The parking lot was a bit of a mess but that wouldn't take long to pave and clean up. Weekend weather looks wet so Ill be happy with my May 3rd date.
