Cedar Point Removing Good Times Theatre

Don't feel sorry for me! I said the screen being removed and control tower being moved were good. That opened up the view of MF and the train station. :). But the added stage and such just shifted the eyesore and suffocated the area.

Jeff this is true but that would increase overhead and spread out sales cutting margins.

What are you talking about?

Running more gift shops/restaurants costs more money...overhead...but will likely have little impact on increasing sales over the current facilities. Meaning that profit margins would be reduced.

They'd increase more money...more overhead... and generate more sales.

If it wasn't likely they'd generate more than enough money to justify their existence, why would the company invest the money in opening them?

More stands, fewer people per stand overall, means lower overhead.

Celebration Plaza is an afterthought. It was a name given to the area to make it easier to direct people to the location for shows. Sounds better than saying "come to Whatever-osity between the trains, and to the right of the bathrooms on the other side of Iron Dragon."

All that it is represents polishing an imperfect setup. The stage is no ideal, seating of all types is awkward. And as I hound and pound on, the foot traffic cutting up the middle is nuts.

To be honest we really don't know where the next new coaster will go either, nor what the plans are. We just have logical speculation for the moment.

I have no idea what you're even responding to. And don't quote the previous post.

Your statement doesn't even make sense. You don't know what the saturation point is for food and merchandise at the park.

Agreed. Also, depending on where you look in the park, it's either Celebration Plaza or Celebration Showplace. At least it was back in Luminosity's inaugural year. They weren't even consistent about it.

Cedar Fair isn't going to add gift shops/restaurants and then stand back, cross the corporate fingers, and hope they all make money. If they add gift shops/restaurants, it will be because they've got research that supports such additions.

Or are you suggesting that Cedar Point never get anything else, ever, since adding something new will only dilute the customer base?

To Jeff's point, if the park is at their concession saturation point, then any new route would likely have concessions moved to it from elsewhere, rather than have new ones added.

Brandon

dj, adding to that, they have a lot of older, outdated food services and games locations in the park. They likely wouldn't rebuild those in place unless the math supported it, but moving out of those obsolete facilities could help justify new ones.

Surprised this is even a debate...lol..there's people who are paid alot of money to figure out what goes where across multiple departments...I think they got this after oh, you know, decades of being a corporate company..

Only saying that the kinds of light food stands they could sprinkle along a new pathway-and I hesitate to call ti a "midway" would be less labor intensive. Thus their operation is cheaper than the full scale operations along the main midway and hub areas. Over the years I've noticed how the raw number of kids working stands has gotten thinner as the volume of options has increased. For CP I think the math gets down to how much foot traffic an area will get and esposing the most people to the option to buy.

Not sure why you think I'm suggesting or might be suggesting what you note in your final sentence though, I think that is somebody else. I'm in favor of more "stuff" because it shortens lines and that makes for a better experience from getting food to riding rides. My arguement is actually that CP does do the math and there are entirely logical reasons why it wouldn't cost a lot more to do.

One thing to think about if they do a path from Bluestreak to Celebration, there are a bunch of merchandise and food stands along the main midway right there already! Imagine taking the back side of those stands and extending them into the new path, facilities already in place with just a little bit of renovation. That is of course if they would run the bath that close.

Lots of if's but hey why not.

I like your Idea Morte! As long as they don't mess with Cadillac Cars, I'll be alright with whatever goes in the former spot of Good Times Theatre. Now I want to ask, why did Cedar Point move the camera? Is Good Bye Theatre gone now?

^Perhaps it is so that we can get a good estimate of how much snow is on the ground? Just a guess. There is a good amount of snowfall forcasted for tomorrow-Monday for most of the upper midwest and northeast.

Anyone notice the "Existing Site Plan" over Rob's shoulder in the most recent Rougarou Files?

I can see it now that you've pointed it out, but not clearly enough to decipher.

Chris

It appears to be the Good Time Theatre area in green, and the Cedars/HR/Marina area in orange.

It's easier to see if you watch it full screen HD, of course. ;)

Its been a while since I've been on the site. I confess that I didn't read through all the replies on this. 16 pages is a lot.

With that said here's a few thoughts.

First off, I don't see the demolition of the Goodtime Theater as scaling down live entertainment. If anything we've seen CF scaling up that area over the past few years. The show quality has gotten dramatically better.

They'll either take the ice show budget and use it to amp up other shows (*cough!* Luminosity *cough!*) or they'll add other entertainment throughout the park.

Most live performances don't require the footprint taken up by the Good Time Theater. Honestly? I'd like to see more street performances around the park. Bluegrass isn't my thing, but the "country" bluegrass band they had was charming.

What will replace the GTT? Who knows. For the short term we might just get green space. The Demon Drop area wasn't immediately repurposed either.

I will say that the Bluestreak midway is depressing and feels like a forgotten closet. The BS is a great ride and has held up well with age. Anything they could do to improve traffic flow there would be fantastic.
