Cedar Point on a rainy day?

I am planning a trip to Cedar Point this coming weekend, May 12 & 13, I am travelling 9 hours from Canada but am disappointed to see that rain is in the forecast for the next entire week or so.

Do all the rides stay open when it rains? We don't mind rain, we'll just dress for it, and the lineups won't be as long, but I'm just concerned about the closing of rides, considering I'm travelling so far I don't want to miss out. I went there last October and was dissappointed that TTD was closed, I'm hoping to be able to try it this time around.

TTD closes in the rain no matter what.

Others, as far as I know anyway stay open as long as there is no lightning or thunder.

I rode Millenium Force in something comparible to sleet.

I bet that was comfortable...

When trains used to come in on MF in the rain I would spiel "Thanks for riding MF, where the raindrops tickle at 93 mph"

Anything that requires a tire to stop you would close. I think the only reason GW does is that it would take so long to evacuate anyone from the ride that it is better to just close it than to worry about it.

Thanks for all your responses, they are are very helpful. Now I know I better hope for clear skies if I want to ride TTD.

Jugga, GW is also tire driven, don't forget.

As much as i hate to write this, with the weather calling for
rain -i believe you will be rained out and spending more
time watching tv or swimming if your hotel has a indoor pool.
I was planning to go to my local park on sunday(kennywood).
I have cancelled that trip because of weather. I will attempt
that again memorial day weekend if weather permits. Good
luck.

Tom

Hey, I'll be there that weekend too! We should meet up or something.

I love being in the park when it rains. Everyone leaves, you get short lines on almost everything. Like the aboves have said, most rides stay open. I've ridden Millie in moderate rain, Magnum in heavy rain (at night), Power Tower (that's trippy, you like fall with the drops), and Top Thrill during a VERY light rain shortly before it was closed. That was intense 8-)

All I can say is stay in the park when it rains. As has proven true to me at two different Six Flags-es and the Point, most of the GP will leave at the hint of rain leaving only diehards (and people who've travelled long distance). If it starts comin down too hard/lightning etc, you can always duck into the Arcade or one of the shops. You'll find me in the Coliseum in the event of heavy rain :)

Edited because apparently I don't know the underline bbcode =( *** Edited 5/11/2006 12:36:13 AM UTC by GeeForce***

Okay Now that we are on the topic of Weather....Does Cedar Point Close or do they shut down rides because of Weather Watches...Like Tornado Watch or Warnings...T-Storm Watch or Warnings?

We have always gone and it has been Perfect..highs in the 70's and lows in the 60's....
Sunny as well!

Thanks!

Some of my favorite days at CP have been rainy. Just get one of those blue CP rain parkas, and ride away. It's a good time to ride Thunder Canyon over and over. Hit Cedar Downs and all the car rides, or play a round of Challenge Golf. Millennium Force in the rain is a very unique experience, highly recommended.

Yes, but the tires are mostly covered by the ride and aren't relied upon to bring the ride carriages to a quick stop from high speed. I can imagine the problems if a car on wildcat slipped over the tire because it was wet, or worse yet on Demon Drop.

Remember, Wildcat doesn't use tires to stop the cars in the final brakes. They are regular friction brakes, and they are covered. When you reach the end of those brakes, however, there is a tire.

ok well, rain or not, the only thing stopping us from going is if the actual park is closed. We're leaving early Friday morning and getting there around noon. We're spending Friday afternoon till closing, and all day Saturday at the park. I dunno about meeting up GeeForce, but if you see a young couple with four kids, that's us!!!

The park does not close due to rain. I think the last time it did close was due to the massive blackout a few years ago, which I think was caused by Top Thrill Dragster ;)
