Hi, a while back I heard a rumor that at one time CP had plans to move the main parking lot off the peninsula and use a monorail to move people from the parking lots to the park. This would obviously give them about 70 acres of land to expand the park onto. Can anyone confirm if this is true or not.
CP is the BEST place on earth!

A Monorail isnt cheap to build cause of all the stuff it needs. I could be wrong if someone knows please feel free to say. Its as much as Dragster was to build maybe more. I know that concret isnt cheap though which it takes alot to build a Monorail. Same with steel. It be nice to have one though. They would have to use a little part of the parking lot for the station.
Just out of pure curiosity, I did some searching to get an idea of how much it might cost to build a monorail. This article talks of one project that was to cost $11 billion for 14 miles! Another article I found suggested about $7.5 million a mile for the Las Vegas monorail. A third site suggests $130 million a mile. Any way you look at it, it'd a big expendature for the park; quite possibly the biggest single expenditure Cedar Fair has ever seen, depending on how long it was.

If they ever got to that point, there are other options, including light rail. But even that is a hefty investment.
I just don't see the need for it. We assume that they need to increase the ride count to be successful or to grow. Will it be a 100-ride park in 30 years? I doubt it. I think the next 20 years will be a lot like the last 20 years, with strategic, creative, and safe investments.
Building into the parking lot sounds a bit Roller Coaster Tycoon to me. May look like fun on paper, but I'm don't see how it's a good business decision in the foreseeable future. Looking at what the park might be decades from now is just speculation. No one could have predicted what the park looks like in 2007 back in 1967.
I think Walt's right. Cedar Point is a huge park already, especially if you've ever been to Magic Kingdom. That place is surprisingly shrinky-dink. No, the Point does have plenty of room to build for many years to come.
If anything, they could build outward, over the lake with a New Jersey-style pier. It'd probably be a regulatory nightmare getting it done, but it would be an amazing addition if it ever happened. The benefit would be making the park thicker across the waistline, versus making it longer and skinnier (and even more of a trek from one end to the other).

That would be cool. Heck, why not just move the whole marina area out to a pier? You could fit in a nice coaster or two. You could also move the service area near Raptor and route the road around the ouer perminter right there too.

LOL, rides are not meant to be in the Marina. The Marina was just rebuilt a few years ago, it's not going out to a pier or anyplace else.
I doubt very much the CP will ruin the resort atmosphere of either the Marina or the hotels to pile on some more rides. There is plenty of space in the park to add rides and/or redevlop existing areas.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
How about they just buy one of the old boblo island boats, and shuttle people back and forth that way.
It would be a lot cheaper than any monorail.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
