Out of curiosity, how much does it cost to dock there for the summer? So I can add it to my pipe dream of boat ownership. (At this rate I could maybe, if I saved up for a good while, afford a leaky rowboat dubbed the 'You Tried'. XD )

Depends on the size boat and whether you want to dock at the express docks or resident docks. Lots of different variables. Overall, not a bad value. We are looking to sell our 5th wheel travel trailer and smaller run about boat and upgrade to a cruiser and dock there.

We have met several very nice people who dock there just by hanging out at Bay Harbor and Famous Dave's.

Are there specs & pricing avail anywhere for the marina? Always been curious to see if a boat & this would be a worthy investment in the next few years.

Steve - nice to hear that you are getting a cruiser, I'm sure I'll see you around the marina often!

thedevariouseffect - I have a 30' express dock and it was around $2000. Along with the dock you get two Marina Platinum Passes and a bunch of Castaway Bay day passes at no extra charge.

Pete, we have been talking about getting a cruiser for a while now. We really enjoy hanging around the marina. Looking forward to the Cedar Point Boat Show in August. The fun starts now trying to sell both an RV and boat. Hopefully we can get those sold and be in a new (used) boat by spring next year.

That's actually not that bad, considering ~400-500 is already in Platinum, so 1500 for a dock and other amenities I may spring on that. My roomates family is considering selling their boat and I wouldn't mind another asset to have. After being with a family friend in his boat/boathouse up on Lakefront Marina in Port Clinton it's def a very neat experience and a hell of a small vacation.

I would definitely suggest it. We have been in the marina for the past three years and love every minute of it. cost of dock is 2400.00 a year, which would just about be a weekend or two cost wise compared to staying in the Breakers.

Owning a boat can be a lot of work, depending how you look at it. Some owners are just for the experience and do minimal upkeep and some are constantly cleaning, waxing and maintaining.

It has been a great experience for our family and I wouldn't trade the money spent for anything.

Does anyone else think marina upgrades are needed? The paint on the sides of the pool is coming off into the pool itself. Some docks are still leaning really bad from the ice last winter. The marina is great and I love it there but how about some suggestions for management from the dock holders. Maybe someone will take notice.

Some suggestions:

Straighten docks so you aren't leaning to the left as you walk on them.

Repaint pool.

Big suggestion - Tiki bar by pool. We have the room and grass area, why not use it.

Allow the pool and hot tub to be open past 8:00 p.m.

Cater a little to the dock holders. The music at the restaurant on Friday nights has been nice this year.

Wifi for dockholders.

Which restaurant has music, is it Bay Harbor? They should advertise that as I don't know anyone who knows about it.

Pete, it should be Bay Harbor if it is a continuation of what started last year. I was the tech for Lusty Lil's then, and the pianist and drummer for the show were given the opportunity to perform there on Fridays. It sounds like this has continued into this year, albeit with different performers. (I no longer work at Cedar Point. Summer 2015 was my only season. If this violates any rules, please let me know)

We have seen music at Bay Harbor a couple of times we have eaten there this season. Both on Friday evenings. The 2 man duo were very good and entertaining.

Now that we have a boat at the marina, I would agree the facilities are in need of some upgrades:

1. Wifi: this is just an expected amenity these days. Most higher end marina's provide this.

2. Marina Pool: Stuck in the 80's. Tiles are broken and repaired, dated and just a boring pool. Did I say it was stuck in the 80's?

3. Showers/restrooms. Again, just need to be updated.

4. Add some umbrellas to the tables where you eat. Some of us like to sit in the shade when we use them.

Other than that, we are looking to our new boating life. Looking forward to meeting some of our fellow pointbuzzer boaters.

Showers and restrooms can definitely use a some TLC, especially in the main Building by the marina office. WiFi should be included. I can catch the parks signal where I am located on Pier 13, but it is not too strong. I can use it to watch netflix in the evenings, but not during the day. Pool could use some attention also. A tiki bar would be fun.

Yes, the showers and restrooms in the main building are overdue for a complete makeover. I'm not sure how long the main restrooms for boaters were there (family restrooms are relatively new) but that area used to be a hallway that went through to the Marina Steak House and had access to the Cedar Point Ferry dock. Used to be a small waiting room for the ferry just off that hallway.

I would love to see them build a new pool complex somewhere else in the Marina (Cedars, after razing?) and maybe expanding the Bay Harbor bar to where the pool now is. A tiki bar or swim-up bar is a great idea.

I'm on pier 14, 1404 - you guys can stop by anytime to say hello and have a beer. Steve - that was quick! I'm assuming you have your cruiser. Congratulations!

Forgive me if this sounds ignorant or whatever... But do you folks stay on your boats for extended periods? It sounds like these boats are being used like I use my camper what with marina shower houses & pools... If so, that's pretty cool.

All this talk really makes me want to get a boat in the next few years...

The problem is I'd really like to have a Carver 36 or something but that's clearly well outside my price point I'd ever be comfortable with. The main issue though is what to buy, and when to buy. I've barely dabbled in that market to get comfortable with it, but it's a huge goal over the next few years.

Shane, I'm usually on the boat 3 or 4 days out of the week, so you could say I live at CP for half of the summer. Most of the time I just use the shower on my boat but many boaters prefer to use the showers in the marina building. I like to take frequent trips to the islands but many enjoy much of their summer just tied up to the dock at CP. These boats are fairly comfortable with many having heat & air conditioning, TVs, audio systems, small galley areas with both stoves and microwaves, refrigerator, head with toilet and shower, pressurized water systems, ice makers, etc. Outside of the Breakers, probably the nicest way to spend a lot of time at CP.

Wow. Makes my 30' travel trailer sound like a dump. I'm gonna have to pay more attention and check out some of these boats this weekend when we are at CP!

Kind of bummed I can't get back to the park this year. Haven't been on your boat since 2007, Pete! Holy crap is that a long time ago!

Wow, it is scary how fast time flies! Whenever you are at the park, let me know and stop by. I even have a kid size life jacket for Simon if you want to take a ride somewhere.
