Cedar Point in the 2000s

The bunny hop, maybe, but not enough to justify killing capacity by adding seatbelts. Even if your OTSR releases, you can hold it down and have no issues.

And definitiely not on the corkscrews. At least not unless Laws of Physics are being broken.

Well maybe I am just getting older but whatever the reason is. I think MF was the best addition, but I think the drawback to the expansion the park has been doing has over the past ten years is killing my ears.

The park seems to have no quite areas anymore. I remember Frontier Trail being so cool in the summer and quite. But this past year I don’t know the coaster noise and the people are just making that area so loud now. I know I cannot complain because the new rides are a must, but I think the park has to have a limit as to how much they can really build now.

Take you up really really high and then drop you at speeds that are really really fast.

Of the 2000's:

Best attraction: Millenium Force. Hands down, the best coaster I've ever been on.

Worst attraction: Wicked Twister. To me, strictly a coaster war addition.

Most underrated: Skyhawk and MaxAir. Superior thrill rides that we rarely talk about.

Most overrated: Sorry, Maverick. One of the more uncomfortable coasters I have been on.

Most improved: Halloweekends. Truly a great event. I look forward to it every year.

Most disappointing: Very little was added to Soak City. This should be a premier water park, but it would never make a top-10 or even top-20 list.

The addition of the air-gates are the result of the lack of common sense that some of the worlds population lacks. Only if their could be a common sense test before you enter a park we could see these new additions change back to the ourselves.

Speaking of air-gates I believe Disaster Transport doesn't have them, also that may be due the use of a chain and a employee counting off people. I may be wrong as that was the operating procedures 3 years ago.

Back to common sense, I will use these 2 examples;
(1) Six Flags over Georgia, the two kids that got killed by Batman for what climbing over not 1 but 2 fences.

(2) Six Flags Magic Mountain, the one guy that got knocked out by Ninja. He did survive but he climbed over a fence to get his hat that he lost. I guess a hat is more valuable than your life.

So what was the outcome we need to add a sign every 5 feet. Next I expect to every single ride to be surrounded by a 10' high chain link fence with razor wire on top of it. The same fences surrounding the coasters but these fences will have a extra kick to them as they will be electrified.

The thing about adding fences is, the newer ones at CP and some added to KI are great. Those black fences look just about impossible to climb, theirs no room to get your foot in, or fingers. I'd say make those ten feet high, and you won't have a problem with people jumping them.

Haha I know, but you have to admit, 15 years ago, we didn't have ride construction coverage and things of that nature.

4 summers of employment in ride operations does stuff to you.

Air gates are useless. in the decades before air gates, exactly how many people were tragically run over by a slow-moving roller coaster train? Zero. Same goes for seatbelts on Corkscrew (or 90% of all seatbelts at CP) - they are useless. If restraints actually did pop up during morning testing on Corkscrew, seatbelts are NOT the answer... the answer is to maintain the restraint mechanisms better.

Best addition of the decade: Millennium Force. It's iconic, and whether enthusiasts love it or not, the general public eats it up - they can't get enough of it. Not to mention it is one of the most beautiful, aesthetically-pleasing coasters ever made.

Worst addition of the decade: Wicked Twister. Wow... the attention this coaster is given sure was short-lived. Does it ever have a line anymore? There is really only one good moment on this coaster - back car, back spike, second swing.

Best: MF, TTD, and Maverick, possibly the best 123 combo anywhere.

Worst: Leaving Mean Streak still standing.

I think this decade made us aware how truly stupid the coaster wars really are. I mean the whole Dragster/Kingda Ka thing really showed how pointless (ha, no pun intended) it is. I think the wars still exist, but by different standards. Also, Maverick showed that the best rides don't have to be 400+ feet or 80+ mph.

I really enjoyed these past 10 years, and hope it continues.

I love the Maverick! I also enjoy my Platnum pass! Over all I really have been enjoying watching CP and many other parks grow! Ride on!

Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs

I believe once we entered the new Millennium, Millennium Force was the best coaster ever created that I've been on. Yes some of you might say it's boring, but that's because you've over ridden it. Here's how I'll rate the 2000s.
1. Millennium Force - Like I said simply the best.
2. Wicked Twister - It's a cool ride
3. Top Thrill Dragster - It still has moments of downtime, but definitely a great coaster.
4. Maxair - Lots of great airtime on this ride
5. Skyhawk - This ride is cool, but to me Maxair is better.
6. Maverick - My second favorite.

^ I like skyhawk alot more.

^^I think MaxAir is better, at night, but skyhawk is a close second

We are not for sure yet, but the purchase of the Paramount Parks may turn out a good deciscion or a bad one. Not Cedar Point, but Cedar Fair. Close enough.

Let's Get Weird.

Whether the Paramount purchase ends up proving to be a good decision or a bad one, clearly Cedar Fair substantially overpaid. I'd like to know who their actual competition in bidding on the deal were. It wasn't Six Flags, it almost certainly wasn't Disney, Universal or A-B. Who else had the pockets and the heft to pull of something like this. PARC? Hah.

By the way, some of you might want to think before you post. Turning this thread into a "which is better" or "what's your favorite" thread is not cool.

The BIGGEST Mistakes were buying Great America and Geauga Lake from Six Flags. Kings Island & Dominion were both great choices to buy as well as Canadas Wonderland.

^ Great America was a Paramount Park before the acquisition.

JuggaLotus's avatar

Yeah, Great America was part of the whole package deal, so unless you count the whole Paramount deal as bad, it wasn't. The jury is still out on the paramount deal.

Geauga Lake is a 50/50. They got some decent rides for cheap that they were able to spread to their smaller parks without huge investment. But they also under-estimated the draw of Sea World and got a lot of negative press with the closing of the amusement side.

I think the worst thing to come out of CP in this new millennium is their current "Ride Warrior" marketing campaign. Who thinks of this stuff? I hear the radio ads and see the TV commercials and am actually embarrased that I visit that park regularly. Sultan of speed? Prophet of zoom? Diva of dare? Who comes up with this?
