Cedar Point in the 2000s

I would like to hear people's opinions on how the park fared in the first decade of the 21th century. What was the best and worst new rides of the decade? Other important trends of the decade. This was the decade that brought some huge new coasters but also the decade we lost such iconic attractions like White Water Landing and the IMAX theater.

What a thread....Well, My baby was built in this "new century" and I would not live with out it......<3

The Best, beyond a shadow of a doubt, was/is/will be The Millenium Force.

The Worst, eh, even the worst ride is better than nothing.

The Biggest Trend was/is/hopefully will cease to be, spiralling food & parking prices.

I couldn't have said that any better

the worst: after some thought, not much.......hot summer lights and fire water

not sure how to label the OTSR for Maverick except for "newest way to kill a great ride."
Also this decade has immensely improved upon the best part of our park, Halloweekends

I would say the best thing that has happened to the park would be Frontier Town/ Trail growing with 2 new rides and more food places, theming, etc. I think Starlight Expierience was a great add on to the frontier trail. It used to look like a dark alley. Cant wait to see a new ride go in there.

Worst would be getting rid of auto spiels (call me crazy) on the rides. Also getting rid of 6train operation on Gemini.

The biggest trend would be Dippin Dots and those light-up toys they are now selling.

Call me crazy again but i don't like Millenium Force al that much. Its 11/17 favorite coasters at CP

I have a question. First of all if i had to select one coaster built in the 2000's that i could live without i would say wicked twister. But during 2002 when constructing top thrill dragster is it true that they were planning a longer layout? dont get me wrong i love ttd but i always wished it was longer.

and an alternate layout featuring a left turning overbank after the TopHat entering a series of airtime hills spanning the edge of MillenniumIsland leading into the brake run were able to leak out prior to thecoaster's opening.

There are always rumors about coasters being longer in the plans but being cut down. It is not true. People said there was plans for Mille to have a giant 2nd hill after the 1st drop, and then go into the overbank. Things arent true.

I think the criteria would have to be a little more specific to give a truly 'qualified' answer. Some of you may prefer Maverick, but Millennium Force was/is a coaster landmark. If you look at attendance, it has been declining since 2000/2001 for a reason.

Best: Millennium Force

Worst: Dragster (based on investment and MAJOR disappointment first 2 years)

New Trend: Resort destination rather than just 'amusement park', emphasized by ERT benefits.

Best: Millennium Force

Worst: I'd have to say Dragster's mechanical difficulties during the first couple of years.

New Trends: I personally love how the marketing department is getting involved with fans. Onpoint is a newer feature, along with twitter and facebook pages for the park. I feel that we now have a better sense of what's going on at all times. This decade brought some higher quality webcams, and I appreciate that. I miss the $.25 cotton candy, even though it only lasted one season. One last thing, I love the ride "extras" that are available on the parks website, such as wallpapers, buddy icons, mp3s, etc.

Best attraction of the decade: Maverick. They realized that you don't need it to be big to be awesome.

Worst attraction of the decade: Vertigo

Let's not forget about the addition of two incredible flats in two years... Skyhawk and maXair. Both are must-rides for me when I go to the park. I still think Millennium Force was the best thing of the decade.

I'd have to say this decade can be summed up as the decade where safety and lawyers finally changed the feel of the park to a very corporate setting. While a lot of the safety overhauls happened in the late 90's, most of the older coasters were fitted with new safety systems and airgates in the first few years of this decade and the last few of last decade.

Yeah, I've never been able to figure out why a coaster that worked fine for 25 years with a wide yellow line suddenly needed gates put in.

I'd think because of changes/updates to Ohio Revised Code which required them?

I have more issues with suddenly "needing" redundant safety restraints on some rides (seatbelts + corkscrew).

And yet there are no seat belts on Demon Drop. :)

Both Seatbelts & Airgates are needed. It is better to be safe than sorry. Restraints popped open back in 2005 while testing corckscrew so I have no problem with them. They could get the seatbelts used on flight deck or Vortex at Kings island. This would increase capacity on Corckscrew. Also Raptor could use theese. Airgates are very important because Cedar Fair doesn't want some person going on to the track. I think if gemini got retrackable seatbelts it could open up 6train operation again.

Actually, the seatbelts are un-necessary on corkscrew. Even if your OTSR releases, physics says you won't come out of your seat.

And about the only ride that I can see airgates being useful on is Wicked Twister. And that's only because there are enough retards out there who would have fun trying to break the light wall.

^ I wouldn't say that. There is negitve g's on the bunny hop 2nd hill. I think would also fall out on the 2nd corkscrew.
