That video is great! It brings back many wonderful memoriesof my childhood! [/image="http://www.pointbuzz.com/Forums/images/smile.gif"]
Just watched them, and I thought they were pretty fun to watch. I would love to have the jungle back.

Great video! :) I'm glad the animals are gone though. While I'd love to go and see them, I bet it was torture for them to hear the coasters all day long. Someone on here had said that Jungle Larry was near Cork Screw? I bet that would have freaked the animals out.

I remember the first trip I made to Cedarpoint! That was in 1983. It was the year that the Demon Drop was brn. I remember how scary it was. It was such a new concept to drop like that. My friend and I had a little song about the Demon Drop! I remember putting my friend on the Gemini. It was her First coaster! My word of advice and I learned the hard way is to never put someone on a coaster who has huge nails! She was so scared that she dug her nails so deep into my arm that it was bleeding by the end. I laugh now because if you look closely at my arm. there are five scars on my arm from her nails! Great memories. The happy part about that ride is my friend is a rollercoaster junkie like me even today!
Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs
Thanks so much Walt! I really enjoyed the video. The first trip to the point that I remember was in 1986.
It is sad to see how many family elements of the park are gone now. The animal aspect was definitely a good family friendly activity for the non-thrill seekers and thrill seekers alike. Though the well-being of the animals should come first and with the park's record with dolphins plus the added stress of the noise of the park for the other animals, it most likely wasn't the best environment for them.
I'd still love to see them find a way to bring back some of that animal entertainment. The petting zoo does not count.
ditto!! While animals need to be in the best environment possible for them, their submission has taken away a unique aspect of the park that will not be forgotten.
I vividly remember Jungle Larry & Safari Jane. I always wanted to watch their show, and had stuffed animals/coloring books/etc. to prove my loyalty! My 1st year working at the park was sadly their "last" year.
Also, the aquarium and Oceana (esp. Oceana!) was my favorite attraction to visit in my "offtime". In late March or so, when the park was still empty..I would head over to Oceana on my lunch break and sit their relaxing as the dolphins swam back and forth.
They will all be missed.
It would be great if Cedar Point would consider a creative aspect that would incorporate animals into their design theme, such as placing observation decks, outdoor aquariums, etc. along queue lines- similar to Disney's Animal Kingdom. Just a thought.
Jesz: yep, Jungle Larry's was where Power Tower is right now...only there were a lot of trees there. It's amazing how many exhibits actually fit in there....chimps, lions, tigers, a reptile house, exotic animals, a stage show, etc. I remember a decent alligator exhibit when I was a little kid. At one point, this was a very significant attraction at CP, before the coaster wars started. Anyway, I remember some cat exhibits backing right into Corkscrew's straight track (at the end of the ride) and would feel so bad for them. Granted, there were some trees there as separation, but the screams had to be relentless all day.
I may be wrong but one of the biggest reasons why Jungle Larry's Safari was taken out was due to the fact that he retired. I vividly remember it being a kid and it was really a nice part to walk through and see the shows let alone being shaded and get away from the heat. But hey change is good and with computers and new technology look what we are have got from that. New rides to view and ride on.
That was my most favorite area of the park... I always wanted to go into oceanology or zoology but unfortunately the opportunity wasn't there for me.
I visit my local zoo often but there are no Dolphin exhibits there to see.
;-/ I'm a little misty!
When did they stop using that ramp on Gemini, the ramp on the side the trains leave the station?

When they took the 3rd train off both tracks. There was no longer a need to have two entry points into the station.
I see how that second ramp is not needed, I thought I heard some were that back in 90's and even before that Gemini was getting over three million riders a season? Guess that 3rd train helped.

It would have been great to CP back in the day. Lot's has changed, but it's nice to see in the final shot when he is on the Frontier Trail in front of those 3 hand shackle that the area still looks the same.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
Mine too.
Now maybe this is a silly question, but do they still do glass blowing shows in the theatre? I was in there two Halloweekends ago for the Black Cat reading and it would be cool to see a real glass blowing show.

I find it hard to believe that Gemini was their flagship coaster.
Between 1978-1988, Gemini was the signature ride of CP. I thought it was so huge and amazing how small it looked after Magnum was built. CP was a great park even when Gemini ruled the skyline!

They did last year - and I may be mistaken but thought it was run by the Kaman Art Students? They don't always have one right at the beginning of the season.
