Is the Cedar Point Fire Department an actual fire department with fire trucks and all? I have seen the red pick up driving around but that is it. Does Sandusky provide the fire equipment? I believe the one station is just outside the park. How many members are on the fire department? Do they staff it all year round or just summertime. Does anyone have any info on it.
Thanks
Tuffy

CPFD has their own equipment parked in a garage back by Gemini. Its not a lot so if there were an actual structure fire, I'm sure Sandusky would be on their way post haste. Also to note though, most any dispatcher in any state is gonna dispatch a second depart on "mutual aid" as soon as they tone out for a structure fire.

Yeah they have a real pumper. It's been there since at least the 1970's, and they probably bought it used. They used to have practice drills on the bay side near the marina. Didn't do my confidence a whole lot of good when they were doing hose drills it would stall and they couldn't get it re started.
I work at CPFD. We are staffed with 2 firefighters 24/7 during the operation season. We are at the back of the park outside next to the Gemini. We have one of Sandusky's old engines that we bought this year and we used last year when ours was down for maintanence. The Ford was given to Park Services to use to wash down the midway or something. It is a real POS. We also have two ambulances and 4 scooters and a fire scooter to use inside the park. Most of the stuff is pretty beat up and pretty old. We also have two pickups, one the Safety Officer on duty uses and one we use for running around the park and to go across the bay for Alarm resets at commons and bayside. Since we do not generate any revenue, we are at the bottom of the list when it comes to buying equipment. Same with the cops. Basically we cover everything outside the park and from the Millenium tunnel to the Wiches Wheel inside the park for medical calls. All other areas are handled by Medics and EMT's from Main First Aid. At night it is just the two on duty after the park closes until then next morning. We do get pretty busy running calls all over the place.
If we get a fire that is more than the two guys can handle then we call Sandusky Fire for assistance. They are pretty busy as well and being on the penisula that is why Cedar Point has their own fire department. I think the other parks only have medical response and not their own fire equipment like us.
Hope that answers your question
