Cedar Point announces Dragster!

If you look in the photo desk section and then click trains, it shows pics of what the trains will be like, those trains are so cool!

Thanks for pointing that out. For some reason I didn't even see the second navbar in the photo desk section. The one thing I noticed about the trains (besides how cool they look) is that the specs page claims "Tiered seating on the coaster’s cars for better viewing (similar to stadium seating)" but those illustrations don't really reflect that. Granted they are just illustrations, but I would think they would have made sure something like that was illustrated correctly.

Lol... notice how the first and last trains only have one row each.

>>A Pre shut-up to anyone who dosen't like the name. Deal, they are not changing it.<<

For those of you wondering, the launch isn't going to be as forceful as you would think (Warning! Physics ahead!):

Converting the final speed of 120mph to meters/second (53.644m/s) and using the time of acceleration (4 seconds) I did some simple 11th grade physics to find the acceleration you will feel.

The equation is:

final velocity = initial velocity + acceleration * time

53.644m/s = 0 + acceleration * 4

Solve for the acceleration and you get 13.411m/s/s

One G is 9.8m/s/s, so 13.411m/s/s is equal to 1.368Gs. Not that intense on paper, is it?

Yeah Phillip, I think you're right. My memory must not opperate at this time in the morning. I would not know since this is my first time testing it! LOL

About the acceleration: I don't know how accurate the POV video is, but if it is accurate, the acceleration is faster than 4 seconds. By 4 seconds it already going up and almost to the end of the red and white track. CP may be understating the launch intensity on purpose. If you read the Q&A, that whole page seems to be dedicated to appeasing concerns about the coaster. Based on the video and where I am guessing the sled detaches from the train, I think the acceleration is just over 2 seconds if the POV video is right on the time.

BTW, was anyone else surprised that they had a full scale test track in Europe?

Kel said:"Top Thrill Dragster" is a play on words with "Top Fuel Dragster."

Yep I definately thought it would be Top Fuel Dragster. Top Thrill is a play on that which really makes more sense seeing as there will be no actual fuel involved.

Those trains look awesome. Can't wait to ride this "one trick pony!" :)

It's always 420 at CP now....OH yeah !

Cool cool cool - all the way around! I can't find a word to describe those trains besides sweet, and what's this, theming?! :)

Waiting in the queue surrounded by this thing...

This is just one ultra-exciting ride, and it looks like it's being done top notch. Thank you Cedar Point!!!

-Jim

Probably going along with the majority here in the posts, this is going to be one sweet and awesome ride...P&D did a great job on getting it ready for it and this will draw in a lot of people.

The design is perfect and I have to say they will get their moneys worth with this coaster. I hope there are a lot of guests that come to the park this season to see this quick yet thrilling coaster.

Oh well, I guess this is just one more reason to go back to America's Roller Coast! (R) :)

Being a drag racing fan, I'm completely thrilled with the name, trains and themeing!! Told my husband this morning there is no need to go to Norwalk now.

I too am also a really big racing fan and I love the theme.

NYC Subways, The next best thing to riding roller coasters.

All I know is, I think I figured out exactly which female Cleveland newscaster Jeff was referring to as the one calling dibs for Media Day...I thought Tracy McCool on Fox 8 was going to jump right out of her skin this morning!!! LOLOL! Not to mention she was talking about certain websites where people had been up all night discussing the ride...too damned funny.
Coaster Clause has EXTREMELY come to town, kiddies.

WOW...just WOW! Reading some of the clues on here and CoasterBuzz I figured we were right, and/ or close about height and speed.

However, the name with Dragster in the title is excellent, the colors and great, and the trains are PHENOMENAL!! Looks like Cedar Point is back in the theming business with a kick a@@ idea!

Way to go, Cedar Fair!

ur mind go...and your body will follow...

This blew away my expectations. I never would have thought of some of the tings they came up with all those trains, what they look like, and all the neato stuff.

And people say Cedar Point doesn't compete with Magic Mountain. Nonsense. EVeryone knows they compete witheach other, they both put the exact same line in their press releases. "Will break the park's own record of the most coasters at any park" 16 coasters, more than anywhere else on earth. Yeah, they're just competing with Six Flags Ohio. Cedar Point is a world class park and they compete with the world.

Has anyone noticed on the artistic painting-type picture of the ride, a rider on the train has their hands up...whoops! Anyway...I think the theming and such should make a few people drop their complaints about the l-th-tw-b

Ugh. Get over it. I've said it a thousand times, most Ohioans don't even know or care that SFMM exists. Ditto for SoCal folks regarding Cedar Point. The claim of "most" or "tallest" or whatever isn't stated as "more than" or "taller than," because no one cares. If it mattered, they'd say "more than SFMM" or "taller than SFMM."

Nothing to get over there Putz. It is what it is, if you want to deny it to make yourself feel better, that's fine. The fact that they both use the same line claiming the most coasters says a lot. And Ohioians aren't the only ones going to Cedar Point of course. I'm from Florida and have been there a number of times, I know people from all over that go there. Like I said, it's a world class park. Not a regional Ohio park, like it used to be back in the day. "The fastest and tallest rollercoaster on planet Earth!"
Jeff's avatar
That's Mr. Putz to you, son. I'm not saying anything to make anyone feel better, that's the reality of their marketing. The core of audience is still Ohio, Northeast Indiana and Southern Michigan. If you think otherwise, perhaps you should check out the license plates in the parking lot on your next visit.
