Cedar Point (and possibly Cedar Fair) going wireless?

I've heard that CP's computer network on-point is in pretty sorry shape and is a bit behind the times. If that's true and they are, in fact, adding WiFi hotspots I hope they've done some upgrading.

Amazing idea for increasing attendance! It may not be a whole lot, but I think you're all going at it in the wrong direction. The one guy who mentioned always being connected I think has CF's line of thinking.

2005:
Kids: We want to go to Cedar Point!
Parents: Can't, gotta work

2006:
Kids: We want to go to Cedar Point!
Parents: Ok, I'll bring my laptop and work from a bench in the shade
(not to mention that when the kids come running over begging for money for food and souveniers, those high per-cap items we all love to see fly off the shelves, an annoyed parent, buried in their work that just wants the kids to go away is more likely to just hand out a $20!)

Wireless in the hotels, okay, but wireless in the park? What for? (P.S. They have wireless for the employees finally, albeit only in the rec...)

Generally speaking, it annoys me that people can't put their phones down for a few hours. Maybe I'm not typical, but I rarely talk on the phone at length unless I'm at home or work, and the rest of the time, you're lucky if I answer it at all.

That said, the Internet isn't just for work anymore. It's more efficient for me to keep in touch with people via e-mail, which is why I like to have Wi-Fi in hotels. But again, I see it more in a utility light than anything else. I check e-mail, and maybe catch up on news or something. What I don't do is fire up the instant messenger and visit PointBuzz!

Well, here is my vote for Wireless at camper village. At lease make a wired connection at each campsite where you plug into electric and water!!!

Why not bring cell phones? They're easier (IMHO) than walkie-talkies, and you can call your friends and rub it in that you're there and they aren't. :) (Which, by the way, I like to do)

Because when you drop it out of your pocket on the pretzel loop on maggie you look like a dumbass.

I don't even bring mine into the park.

As for wifi, I don't see a problem at the hotels and camper village but at the park just seems like a waste for the general public. As for the infrastucture for CP it would be great, they would save alot of money when they relocate things that need to be tracked through a central server or when they add new vendors / rides.

I 'work from home.' This is delightful news :)

The wireless at the rec is kinda slow. Wireless at the park is a good idea. We have like 29 minutes between shows that gets kinda boring.

I have no problem with cell phones in the park, when they're used for utilitarian reasons - keeping in touch with the kids, establishing meeting times/places, etc. What I do have a problem with is people talking on them in line, or in crowded areas in general, especially when they are just calling a friend back home to gossip. Bad etiquette, such as talking too loud or having an obnoxious/loud ringer, only compounds my hatred.

BlueStreak64 - you sound like the exact thing that causes most people to dislike their existence in places like this.

What about all the phones lost off the first turn of millie? They must get about 100 a day during the summer.

That's a well deserved fate for those idiots, in my opinion. I just hope most of them don't have them insured.

I'm sorry that me liking to keep in touch with my friends irritates you dj. But you know what, in the past two years I've made maybe 3 calls back to my friends here in NE Indiana from CP, that's over 16 days in the park the past two seasons and just 3 calls.

I preferred to send pic messages of my on-ride photos back to a friend who had to work the Friday we were up there (they were coming up that night). I think the only time I've talked on mine is in trying to coordinate where everyone is so we can meet up. That's tough to do when you have a group of 6 or 8 and people all went in different directions.

I'd love to see wireless in the resorts. It would be helpful especially when needing to check the weather report to see what its going to do that day. Sure I could turn on weather channel, but they seem to do more national weather than local. Especially when I need it.

Weather Channel, never trust them with anything local. That's what the local news stations are for.

My feeling as well, I bring my laptop whenever I travel for E-mail, getting on to my business server, fantasy sport updates, poker playing and just plain internet browsing.

I spent 300/night in a suite at Breakers East back in May and my only contact with the outside world was TV.

I think it would be great to at least bring in Wi-Fi to the hotels.

I was just using your comments as an example. If that's really as much as you call, kudos. But, if you call from line, shame on you.

I think there should be a set of cell phone etiquette guidelines, which if broken, will initiate a 2 second alarm (to warn those nearby), followed by the cell phone exploding.

People I hate:

• People talking in line (or anywhere where you are close enough to hear someone's conversation)
• People talking too loudly in any situation
• People having their ringers on when in line (especially people who let their phone ring 5 times, blankly staring at the callerID, apparently confused by the pretty colors), and
• People who are too involved with their conversation to be able to successfully interact with those around them.

So is this wireless going in at the Breakers. Might be fun if it does.

So far the only "hot spot"/"access point" that I know of for sure is Donut Time.
