Cedar Fair buys another park

As an example, on Michigan Ave here in Chicago, you can visit a Banana Republic store inside Water Tower Place, or you can walk two blocks down Michigan to visit a Banana Republic store on the street. While the stores are very close to each other, they attract different shoppers (the Water Tower Place would get more tourists while the store on the street pulls in more locals). Probably CF is looking at the same situation with MA: while there's some overlap, the parks target different segments of the market. CP is positioning itself as a resort, a destination for a multi-day trip, while MA is a one-day park; MA is a more local park than CP with the vast majority of patrons (outside of coaster enthusiasts) coming from within the state.

Too, MA markets further north into Michigan than CP, and I'd guess is more active in Southwestern Michigan, too.

One thing MA has that CP doesn't have is Mad Mouse. It's a great little ride in a small area. MA also has like 60 acres in the back for development.Cedar Fair is going to have a field day with all that land

Hi, my name is Josh and I'm addicted to Cedar Point.
They also have a world-class woodie. (#1 in the US since 1998)

Also, their range of influence is at the end of CP's, but it includes Chicago, which neither CP, nor Valleyfair, nor WOF's does.

This is great news! I was there two years ago for the first time. It was a nice little park but, very boring! The rollercoasters were nothing great. A friend and I were saying though this would be a great park for cedarfair to purchase. It has very good potential but cedarfair does have there work cut out for them!!!! Things are old or not modernized. They have so much room to work with and the population is great during the season. MA is centered around alot of high tourist areas! So i think it is going to do just fine. Does anyone think they will build any attractions right of way??
CF can start by tearing down every last building in the place and putting up food stand, gift shops etc with some character! Their theme is cement block land, I think.

My mother, who worked at the park, says that while she was there it came out that the guy who owned it had cancer; she also said that he would never consider selling it to Six Flags. Also from Flo (that's my mom!), news that Camille (I think), the big guy's daughter and GM of the park, has interviewed with Cedar Fair to stay on in the same role.

Bill, you can rest assured that the majority of people in Chicago have never heard of Michigan's Adventure. Some have heard of CP, but for the most part, if it isnt SFGAm, Indiana Beach or Wisconsin Dells, they average Chi-towner cares nothing of it. I think MA will stay that way for a while.

chris 1, are you kidding me? You stated you were there 2 years ago. Well that was Shivering Timbers first year of operation. Are you seriously saying that ST is nothing great? It is one of the best wooden coasters out there! They have also added the Mad Mouse since then and although it is small it is a very fun ride. MA needs a major steel coaster to really get put on the amusement park map. Looks like they are getting a steel coaster next year. The big question is will it be a hyper? I hope so!
