That's awesome that Cedar Fair now owns Shivering Timbers. Does this mean that next year, a Cedar Point season pass will be able to get you into the Michigan park? Not a bad choice on CF's behalf is you ask me.

Well this is completely awesome news. I only have one concern. Will the admission price still include both areas, or will we see separate admissions for both the water park and the amusement park? There is so much area that can be developed out there. I can't wait to hear what they are going to do to it.

Question for ya, JS. Which route do you take to MA? I usually cut straight across the state on 46, but that is so slow with all the 2-lane roads. Do you happen to take a different route?

This is great news! We only live about an hour and a half away from MA. It's good to know it will now be owned by a company with the vision & resources to get some really great rides in there. (Shivering Timbers is great, the Mad Mouse is nice and the water park's pretty good, and the current owners did a nice job with the resources they had, but that park needed more). I'm looking forward to eventually having a first rate amusement park near me. (We'll still visit CP, of course, but when it's a 5 hour drive, you can't do that regularly).

My goodness! I haven't been to Michigan's Adventure in over 10 years... I hope they don't take out any coasters before I can get there and get the pictures I want! As I recall, even the little bitty Corkscrew was always good, so I think they're safe for awhile. Any idea if they will change the name? Cedar Fair tends to view takeovers as more passive than their western OH neighbors, so this is a really good deal. :)

For those of you interested in learning More about MA click the link below. Its a park I think CF will be able to do alot with! Just the kind of Park that CF likes to accquire and turn into another CF gem. This has been a Rumor for some time now and one I deeply hoped came true being from Michigan myself. Granted it will never be Cedar point to me but this is none the less big news if your a Coaster Lover..

A good starter park for my young daughter :)

Hopefully they will keep the name. They've kept the name of their other aquisisions, right? I also doubt they will be removing anything soon. Honestly, there isn't much non-water related there to remove! :)

I think Cedar Fair still operates Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom under a one admission policy, that is one ticket gets you into both rather than having the water park be a seperate gated facility.

Also, given the layout of MIchigan's Adventure, it's hard to see how the water park could be made a seperate gate. Not only would it cut off access around the small lake the park surrounds, but a seperate gate for the water park would involve demolishing and moving the corporate hq, hr, receiving, employee parking and other 'behind the scenes' things.

Thats great I live closer to MIA than I do to Cedar Point. Maybe we might see a world class coaster or two;)

Hi, my nake is Josh and I'm addicted to Cedar Point.
Well, MA has one world class coaster already - Shivering Timbers. Let's hope we see more in the next few years!

Wow, I never actually thought that this rumor would come true. I already enjoy an occassional visit to Michigan's Adventure, but this should definately take the park to a whole new level. Plus, they have so much room to build on. I can't wait to have a Cedar Fair park in my home state.
Good investment!

I want to ride Shivering Timbers bad, but I don't think traveling all the way up through Michigan is all that economical. :(
It's great news! I hope the season passes can be used there. I'll be interested in hearing when can be used. I'll take a day and drive over there. I think it's a little over 3 hours from here. I've heard that it's a nice family place.

Jeff-
It's funny, I was just thinking the other day..."HHMM I wonder if Six Flags would be interested in MI-A??" Well, something even better happend! This would be perfect if I could use a CP season pass there!

BTW could this mean that SFGA in Ill. may be seeing much construction with the hopeful competition?!

I think it is great news. MA is 45 minutes from my house. MA apparantly already had prior to purchase a steel coaster on the boards for 2002. I hope it is a hyper! I think a good hyper coaster would compliment ST very well. My only concern with Cedar Fair is that they dont do to Shivering Timbers what they did to Mean Streak. It would suck to have trim brakes all over one of the greatest woodies out there. But then again they seem to do a good job with Ghostrider so maybe things will be ok. :)
I don't know a great deal about how the rides are constructed themselves, but I would think that the manufacturer has more to say about adding brakes and such than the management aspects of the park.

I think Cedar Fair is more likely to add some management changes to the park and give it some general renovations for a year or two before really adding a ton -- it would make sense that they would want to make sure that their investment was worth it before pumping a ton of money into it for major developments. We'll see! :)
