Castaway Bay 2/2-4/05

After discussing room rates and coupon usage with CP Investor Relations (we lost), we headed to Castaway Bay Wednesday afternoon. Seems that you can't use the shareholder bogo night coupon with the internet room price because that is a reduced weekday price so we had to pay the rack rate which was $60 more. I still don't think it's fair but we were getting one night free so I can't complain too much. Anyway, we booked the Pelican room and during check-in we asked for an upgrade and were moved to the Tarpon Suite on the third floor. Great deal! Nice big room with a frozen bay view. A little cold but much bigger than the Pelican. We went to the water park after dinner and everybody had a great time. The kids could wear goggles throughout the whole park, unlike Soak City. The place was big enough but not so big that we felt unsafe letting the kids (9 and 10) go off on their own. It was not crowded at all. No wait for anything. We were surprised that it did not smell like chlorine. The outside hot tub was really neat but the filters are very loud. Why is that? The kids loved the arcade and spent the rest of the evening playing games and picking out junk with their points (a true test of parental patience). After breakfast at Cracker Barrel Thursday, we drove out to Cedar Point but could only go as far as Bay Harbor. It was very cloudy and from the parking lot we couldn't even see Millie's lift hill. We took some pictures of Blue Streak in the snow, wiped a tear and drove to Battery Park. Nice place, I'm sure it's nicer in the summer. Back to the hotel and swimming again. Thursday was great with the kids having Lookout Lagoon pretty much all to themselves. That evening I had a drink at Gil's while my husband took the kids to spend the rest of their arcade money. We left about 9 Friday morning after a trip to the gift shop and Ebb and Eddie's for coffee. All in all it was a nice winter getaway and should tide us over until May when CP opens. Some other thoughts....If anyone stays down by the old pool, beware! They are renovating that area for a new Spa and we were startled awake both mornings (7:30 a.m.) to drills, hammering, loud voices, and air compressors. We had room 351. There is neat stuff to do for the kids like Snoopy events in the evening and a treasure hunt in the lobby area. Ask for information at the front desk. It is cold in the hotel so bring a cover up to wear to and from the pool. I noticed everything in the pool area was very clean. Especially the bathrooms which can get slimy floors. We brought snacks and water to the pool with us, as did many people we saw. I have a bruise on my back from the body slides but they were fun anyway. There are hardly any TV channels available in the rooms. We found this strange because other CP hotels have all kinds of channels. Nothing for the kids at all. Thank goodness for Nintendo DS.

A great trip even though my husband didn't really want to go in the first place. I would be glad to answer any questions you may have.
