Carry on changes

What exactly are the new rules for carrying loose articles on to the rides. I saw under the news section that many of the roller coasters now do not let you take anything on, even sun glasses. So what rides does this actually affect and is it all carrying ons are dissallowed?

Pretty much everything that doesn't fit in a cargo pocket or has a strap to attach to teh body has to go in a locker

So you can bring like a wallet, cellphone, glasses with a strap, and some assorted other things. But backpacks, bags, food items, etc all need to be left in a locker or with a non rider.

If you want to take your beloved sunglasses on a coaster, you will have to buy one of those fashionable straps.

Magnum still rocks.

If you're willing to put them in your pocket they've been ok with you riding. If you wear a fanny pack (and by wear, they mean as the manufacturer intended) they'll let you on. They just won't let you hold things while you're riding. It's a fair compromise in my opinion. Why anyone would want to carry a ridiculously large stuffed purple gorilla onto a coaster, let alone around the park, is beyond me

I really didn't notice any difference in hats and sunglasses to be honest. I only saw one person on McDonalds the Ride that had to take their hat off and put it in their pocket or shirt.

So during a cold October night for now on, I won't be able to keep my stocking hat on to stay warm which is very interesting. Also just two years ago, cp heavily promoted the big TTD glass which once bought could be endlessly refilled throughout the season and was able to be taken on most rides, but now obviously that policy has been completely reversed. I don't understand how some carry-ons were fine all along, but now are totally disallowed.

Its almost like cp figured they could make money on the TTD glasses and thus let them be taken on the rides; but obviously they didn't make much because the offer for free refills is no longer available. So now they figure they can make more on locker rentals and sunglass bans.

I dont think its so much about money, but more about safety. I could only imagine what it would feel like getting pegged in the head by a pair of sunglasses going 93 mph on millennium force.

As farr as hats go, what would happen if the hat landed on the track? It could get cought up in the wheels and stall the ride.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

In the past they've generally allowed winter hats on MF and TTD if it was cold. Maybe that's just what I've noticed though.

Stocking hats tend to stay on better because they don't have a bill trying to pretend its a sail on a sailboat.

i hope that baseball hats will have to be removed while riding. last year while riding gemini, this wang up ahead of me had his ball hat fly off and the bill hit me right on the bridge of my nose. it didn't feel all that good, i must confess.

Damnit, last year I was fine with wearing my glasses [not sunglasses, regular ones] without a strap, and the only ride they hassled me on was TTD.

I hate those straps, they're uncomfortable AND they look stupid when they're on regular glasses. My glasses were fine on all the rides - coincidentally, putting them in my pockets caused me MORE problems than wearing them.

Anyway, I see why they did it, but this is still lame.

You don't have to wear the strap all the time. Put it on just before you get on the coaster.

This is not an issue of being an easy cash grab. It's an issue of safety. I'll be the first to agree that they can be a little over zealous about safety, sometimes to the point of exceeding common sense, but their intentions are "pure" in that regard.

That said, the perception is certainly one of a cash grab, and that's where I think they need to think very hard about what they offer. Again, few parks have really mixed safety and convenience the way that Universal Florida has.

Personally, I don't find it to be much of a hassle. Most of the times when I go to amusement or theme parks I just use a fanny pack, and CP was fine with me wearing it the way I was supposed to. It's the people who plan for every possible situation and need a backpack or duffle bag to carry everything in, when in reality they barely use half of the stuff they bring, that they're really trying to target with this. I'd say it's a reasonable request for them to ask you not to bring a backpack or a duffle bag or anything that you have to hold in your hands while riding.

Don't even get me started on the stuffed animals.

What the heck do people need a back pack or duffle bag for anyways? I just wear big-pocketed pants/shorts and put my camera in one and wallet in back pocket.

I do agree with the carry on changes. To help stop the people who need to bring a backpack and other large pages. To less'en the changes of something flying off a ride. I do think hoilday world does this to.

Quote from a Corkscrew ride op, "And Dragster is down again"

I was there Sun. and Mon. and I wear glasses and also usually wear a hat to the park. All the coasters except TTD, I was able to wear my glasses without any ops saying anything about them (no strap). They were more concerned about the hat. I usually just held my hat when riding. About 1/2 the time they asked me to put it down my shirt and that usually came from people I did not recognize from previous years. Asked an op about it and he said the rule was put into effect for those larger things people wanted to carry on and was not all that concerned about hats and glasses.

Jeff, I totally agree with you about cp taking a look at their current system. When at Universal Orlando, most all rides would allow for carry-ons such as video cameras and duffel bags which I thought was great. Just put them in a safe place on the ride or hold them so they can't get away or inconvience anyone else. However there were a selected few rides where large carry-ons and video cameras were not allowed such as the Hulk, the Mummy, and Dueling Dragons. But what was great is that Universal offered free lockers located right near the entrances to those particular rides. The lockers themselves were highly futuristic because they took your finger print to open and close the locker, no key was needed which was awesome. These lockers could be used as often as needed throughout the day. At cp, everytime you need something from your bag, first you have to go to your locker, which could be totally opposite to where your at and that always happens to me, then once you get your needed item you have to redeposit more money into the lockers and this process could repeat itself throughout the day. Compared to Universal, cp is really lacking in this department.

In the past, CP would get complaints because it seemed to be different at every ride. WT had bins, but you could only use them for hats, glasses, or shoes. Mantis and Raptor had bins you could put anything in. MF and Dragster allowed nothing in line. Magnum, Gemini, Mine Ride, etc allowed you to bring anything that would fit on until they changed Magnum last year. Now it is one policy across the board and while it might seem harsh at first, it will probably be better and safer in the long run. I wish they had those lockers like Universal and maybe if there are problems with this system they will look into it.

If it's really not a "cash grab" why do they still charge a dollar for lockers? That's quite an ourtrageous price for somebody who will have to grab a locker before every ride. And, yes, there are situations where somebody needs to keep a bag-o-stuff with them all the time.
