Can you say, "Inverted Top Hat"?

Answer me this, was the term "Top Hat" for an element coined before Xcelerator? What was the first actual useage of "Top Hat" as term for a rollercoaster element? I'd like to know, I don't ever remember it being used before Xcelerator. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if this is true, then Top Hats are inherently a train going over the top of them, by definition non-inverted. Anyone?

Tophat was originally on the first ride that HAD the element....

wasnt it Batman The Chiller? (sp?)

I'm not going to waste my time like you and try to look up all the possible threads that say "Inverted Top Hat".

This thread was done after the latest construction, so if you don't like it - EAT IT!

bboy... - That back column has no other purpose than to stabilize the front of the tower from which everything else is being supported.

And Scottie - You're only 5 weeks past your 18th birthday. It's time to grow up and act like an adult.

Argh... the web cams are so misleading. If you were there to see the construction up close, you would realize that the top hat will NOT be inverted. There are just way too many things pointing to a non-inverted top hat, including the convex track and the stairs for the top of the ride (that will go along the track).

Okay, not to be dumb or anything, but does an inverted tophat not first go down at the top of the lift hill for a slight bit of speed? and then when its done with the little loopy tophat deal it goes up a bit....I dont know much about coasters....Just from pictures I have saw on here and a few other websites. I saw a pic of an inverted tophat and it looked like it could be possible. Yes this is my first post, so no I am not pretending to know it....Im just voicing my oppinion.

The first rides to have a so-called "tophat" element were the two Mr. Freeze rides (SFoT and SFoStL) and Batman and Robin: The Chiller. All three of these coasters were designed by Premier Rides and opened in 1998. They all feature the same (inverting) element:

I agree though...the best approach is to call the element on Xcelerator and CP's new ride a "reverse tophat"

I think you're stupid and you stink. ;)

Seriously, both are tophat. One inverts, the other doesn't. No need to make it like a double negative or something.

Thanks for that Jeff. Let's put this baby to rest.

Whenever someone tells someone else to grow up, it's because they're insecure about themselves. They have to attempt to tell someone that they are immature in order for them to reassure themselves of being superior to others. It's ok, I forgive you.

I guess the real question is: "Who cares!?!" How about we just be happy with what we get. Beggars can't be choosey. This top hat will not be inverted given by Jeff's definition. Therefore, this topic needs to be closed.

It's up to you, Jeff...

Actually, it's up to YOU Scottie, since you created the post...you can delete it if you wish.

I was looking for something else and just happened to come across this. Interesting, huh?

Enough with the noise folks. There's nothing more ironic than chronic posters telling people to step away from the site for awhile.
