can we go back to the old school Disaster Transport?

If they do fix up the theming and stuff; in 5 years we will all be back on here complaining because it looks horrible again. I like the idea you guys had about building a woody in its place with the boardwalk theme. And now since Aquatic Stadium isnt being used I think DT time is up in 2009. Lets get ready for a big Woody in DT and AS places.

Let's Get Weird.

As far as theming goes: It's creepy, dark, noisy, and strange. Maybe the theme is "will the axle hold?" ;) Quite a different experience then just about everything else at the park (even if unintended). I don't think that makes it good, just very different. If you want see a mild ride turn wild, check it out when the track is wet!

I don't think there are any shortage of ideas to make this attraction better, but there has to be a reason to spend money on it. I'm willing to bet that if something leaves a bad taste in your mouth, you wouldn't be ready to take another bite without changing your appetite. You can put on more makeup, but it won't change the ride. Without serious changes to the structure or shuttles it's still the same ride. Thinking of it as a ride isn't as fun as thinking about the whole thing as the worlds tallest, fastest, and steepest laser tag arena.

As a pass holder, my girlfriend and I make fun of the ride every time we enter the queue line. We joke of the fools that actually are spending money to buy the 3-D glasses.

P.S. My favorite current effect is self initiated. When waiting in-line in the metal-walled room where the black lights are; when its quiet... SMACK your hand against the metal wall (stings a little) but it will make everyone jump. Its great, ya'll gotta try it!

Wow...what a treat you are.

Just for your future reference, any sentence that begins this way and includes a Cedar Point ride eneds with the word "no".

And NoSoup4U, you do realize that it's people like you in a queue line that make linejumpers/smokers/pda-ers think what they're doing is "cool"? Y'all need to knock it off.

If it is a mid-range coaster that families enjoy make it themed towards the 6- 10 year old range. Now that Cedar Fair aquired Paramount turn it inot a SpongeBob theme. Keep the ride enclosed and make it seem like it is underwater.

I like the Spongebob idea, although that would probably work better with a water ride than a coaster. Here's another idea for a quick fix...

Step 1: get rid of all the "space" theming

Step 2: Add some concert lights ala the Rockin' Roller Coaster at Disney Studios Paris (A watered down version of the one in Florida)

Step 3: Add a rockin' soundtrack to the trains (this would be the most expensive)

Step 4: Rename the ride "America's Rockin' Rollercoast" or "The Rockin' Roller Coast"

...and although you'd never be able to tell, the ride is conveniently located on the Coast!

I like the demolition idea.

My wife hates going on this ride with me as every time we do I point out all the stuff CP has let go on this ride. Even my 6 year old got tired of it last year. Then worst of all, after getting on the ride, you head up the hill and the extreme heat from the building just about takes your breath away.

Overall I like the ride, my kids like it. It's a good middle range ride. Problem is I feel like I'm taking my kids to the "bad part" (like there is only one) of Cleveland when we're waiting in line. Most teens go in there to make up and fondle each other to a point where they are dry humping each other because it's so dark. It's hard to take impressionable kids on a ride when that kind of stuff is going on and they are asking questions about it.

CP need to clean it up, brighten it up, kill a lot of the line as it's not needed and could be cut in 1/4th and still have enough room for people. Clean it up or get rid of it, as overall I agree, it's the forgotten stepchild of the other great rides at CP.

Now going on 25 years of going to the Point, and I still love it!

I love the ride itself. It's great to take kids on that aren't ready for the bigger coasters. It's not nearly as scary for them if they can't see it. Yet the theming is scary. It doesn't coordinate with each other. I'm still confused by the Alaska/Aliens conflict that seems to be going on.

I don't think they need to re-theme the entire ride, just update it, get the whole thing coordinated, etc. It's tempting to say "Demolish it, give us room for a new coaster." But the truth is we still need tamer coasters to keep the park suitable for a variety of guests. Like I said, the coaster itself is really fun.

I would also like to see the outside of the building re-done as well. It really looks like a warehouse or something, which could fit the theme of the ride, if we knew what the theme was. Perhaps choose a theme an paint the outside accordingly. Or better yet, brighten up the atmosphere of that area by painting it in brighter colors. The Cedar Point logo on a blue/sky-looking background might be nice. Perhaps a little juvenile, but more fun to look at than the current building.

I'm not sure new-comers to the park are even aware of what DT is anyway. If money is put into the ride, they should to a better job of letting people know it's there.

I could imagine that if this were a huge problem then it would receive more publicity and concern, its just that it isn't getting out there to the big bosses so that changes could be made to the ride...Cedar points upper management and the Big shots all need to be notified of what DT is (falling apart) and then something might be done but seems not enough thrill seekers really care to speak to the Big shots or at least start a petition to send to the cedar fair president/owners or such! Just my 2 cents seems good though?

When life gets hecktic think Cedar Point!

Im sure they're quite aware of the current state of the ride...they just have bigger things to be concerned with.

Cedar Point rocks my socks.

Hopefully it is on their To-Do list in the upcoming years. IMO, I would like it to stay, just revamp it a little. I mean, I don't know of too many parks with an indoor bobsled ride. As long as the AC works ;)

Id be embarassed to tell my daughter that Cedar Point has a ride like this.

I'll take her on Iron Dragon and tell her it's a big warehouse to save her from the stupidity.

The dust inside the line area is really bad. The need some pledge or something. I had not rode this ride in two years, but I did on Sunday. Have the lights been on in the line for a while, or is this the first year that they did this? It was very dusty inside, the walls needed to be painted, and you can really tell that they use that building for storage. With the lights on you can see boxes on the other sides of the walls. The building itself smells, and on the lift, you can see daylight through the floor on the lift. Some major money needs to be sunk into it.

I really think they are just waiting for it to stop working one day.

(gosh, why dont I tell you how I really feel about this ride?) ;)

I really used to like DT. I think it is a fun ride and was cool for families to ride together. I really wish they would revamp it though. They need to get rid of the stupid neon stuff inside and turn it back into what it used to be... including the sound during the ride!

At least there's one part of the themeing we can always count on being there, even if the light for it doesn't work anymore. That lift will always be overheating.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Maybe the theming is supposed to be a roller coaster that the park has completely abandoned.

It wasn't much when it first opened as Disaster Transport. The films were cheesy and the story wasn't very good either. It is crappier now. The company doesn't want to spend money on the ride for improvements or even upkeep.

Another problem is serval effects failed and caused problems. A fog machine started on fire which spelt the end to them. There used to be a rock hanging over the track, but it fell and could have seriously injured someone. One of the arms in the repair bay broke through a sheilded electrical conduct after hitting it a lot. At some point it started to shower sparks. Good effect but a serious fire hazard.

Other effects have failed but those responsible didn't know how to fix them. There used to be a video on the screen that you see when entering the large building area with the helix. The film seperated and was never fixed. They probably didn't know how to fix it either. Sound effects used to be placed throughout the ride. The speakers are still there but the sound equipment is not in working condition or gone.

There are endless examples of stuff that simply isn't kept up because it costs too much money to do so.

The quene is miserable. It's very dirty and needs a lot of work to get it respectable. I think the only reason it is allowed to be kept in such horrible condition is that there isn't good lighting.
