can we go back to the old school Disaster Transport?

Can we go back to the old school Disaster Transport? The new one is terrible. I miss it from the old days. (tear)

Yeah, although I passed it up for a ride on MaXair, Jess said there's still no lights on.

Ride on, MrScott!

Yeah i wish it went back to its normal self too. Now usually more people want to ride it because it is indoors and it causes a long line. But maybe some day it will.. *** Edited 5/16/2007 11:32:06 AM UTC by Jerreus***

I'll never pass up a chance to get this point across;

Either clean this ride up or get rid of it. It's an embarassment.

Promoter of fog.

Did they make a change to DT this year? I honestly don't see a problem with it. Although, us Coaster Enthusiasts enjoy the big coasters like MF, Maggie, and Raptor, we have to remember that there are beginners out there who need rides like DT, ID, and CCMR to boost their confidence.

I'm too sexy for my harness!

I agree with Kevin. I refuse to go on that ride until they clean it up. It truly is an embarrassment to the entire park. Whenever I take new people to the park, I just say it's closed and we keep walking. :)

I understand wanting to keep the coaster count going up, instead of removing and replacing one to keep it the same.

However, with DT, it needs MAJOR money sunk into it for renovations to get the ride in a state that would make the park proud to give it a home.

As it stands, the theming looks like they bought it at yard sales over the years. The inside is dirty and gross looking. The queue is long and maze like, and WAY too long for the ride.

Either commit to a theme and make it look awesome, or remove the theme and the building. If the sand from the beach ruins the track, then inclose the track in tubes, but remove the ridiculously ugly building and the sad attempt at theming they made back in the early 90's.

I never rode it as Avalanch Run, or in the early days of the theming, so I can't say what it was like back then. But it's a sad, ugly, garage sale relic now.

Looking forward to Cedar Point- July 4th-5th, 2007!

Looks like I'm going to have to ride this at least once when the park isn't busy so I can form my own opinion on it. :)

Not only was most of the line pitch black, but the ride itself was also black. How hard can it be to keep up the lights on that ride? I could stick some of my DJ lights in there, for a much better effect.

And I wish they would bring back the "I am loosing control".

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Every year I notice something(s) new missing from the ride. I liked the "overheating" sign that they had over the lift, now that's gone. Robot is gone, "losing control" is gone, strobes and any other lights are pretty much all gone. Pretty much the only theming you get is "enjoy your trip to Alaska" from the ride op right when the ride starts.

I actually got in line for it on Sunday. About 1/3 of the way through the queue was pitch black which opened up into the hallway with the black lights in it (which weren't on) where there was a large quartz light on. When I realized that the line was this long, we (Josh, myself and Brett) turned around and went back the other way to go ride MaXair.

I had to get out my cell phone and wave it back and forth so people entering the queue didn't run into us. This seems a bit dangerous and if CP is so concerned about safety they should really consider doing something about it.

Ride on, MrScott!

^^The overheating light was there for me on Opening Day. But yeah, the queue was all lit up for me when I went and the ride was pitch black. Odd.

Personally, I always liked the ride itself. If only the park would fix up the theming, it might not be such a heap of junk.

I wonder why they've let it go this way for so long.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

For the hundredth time it is a good middle range coaster that the park needs. Yes, I was really mad about the lights & that they still sold the glasses knowing that they wouldn't work. And yes, I see quite a few things that need work with the theming, but many people love the ride. A new guy to the ride behind me was saying he was going to get right back in line he enjoyed it that much. I know it's hard for coaster enthusists to understand how enjoyable it is, but many people love the ride, faults and all.

Fixing it up could be easy... has anyone ever considered removing the surrounding building and giving this old ride a new lease on life as an open-air coaster? OK, in addition to being sarcastic I also actually think it would be cool to ride Avalanche Run again.

Or instead of building props out of plywood and cardboard, how about moving stuff from the boneyard into there?

crazy horse's avatar

How would that make it any better? There were reasons why they built a building around it. It would just be the same ride, only outside.....yay, what fun.

I rode this ride when it was the Avalanche Run. It wasn't much... It was in open air and was a slow ride. Very boring..... CP tried to emulate one of the original bobsled runs at Euclid Beach Park in Cleveland, Oh. back in the '50-60's.. It was called "The Flying Turns". CP failed at their attempt to try to recreate this ride. In a similar area, there was a ride called "The Jumbo Jets"... Now that was a wild ride. CP seemed to decide to replace an exciting ride with a boring ride. To save face, it seems that CP decided to enclose the original Avalanche Run and try to make it exciting... It didn't work out.

I remember when it first opened as DT, there were a littany of special effects, not just on the ride, but in line.. As I recall, there was a large video screen with space pirates shooting lasers at you, several asteroids, a part where you seem to enter the hull of a ship and strobe lighting effects, as well as a unsettling blast of air as you began to mount the first hill.

Then, in line, there was an entire pre-ride presentation with audio animatronic droids, robotic arms working on a ride car and a corny but campy video explaining the whole Alaska theme.

It wasn't quite Disney, but what is? It was more fun than what they have now. Then the flood washed it all away.
With the Paramount purchase and the attempt to finally re-theme frontiertown, hopefully the Big Dick and his henchman will get around to rethemeing DT.

If they want a middle of the road coaster then knock it down and put one in. DT is a hunk of junk simple as that.

^ I'm sorry but you just don't seem to understand. Tear down a mid range coaster that people that like mid range coasters already enjoy, to put up another one? Most people that visit CP are not as fanatical about rides as those of us on this site. They simply enjoy the ride w/o worrying if it measures up to some enthusiast's standards. And many, many people including young riders, beginners, middle aged & older adults (some maybe having slight health conditions that keep them from enjoying thrill rides), families riding together, etc., etc. have a blast riding it. Case in point, the middle aged guy behind me that was laughing & screaming & planning on getting right back in line. It just makes no sense to want CP to replace a mid range ride many people already like to put up another one. You & some others do not like it...you don't have to. We do.

Edit: IvyRose, I see you made the transition from the employee lounge. Welcome to life as a guest! :)
