Camp Snoopy Concept Art

Why did we not get this version of Camp Snoopy?

I have long wondered what that mysterious lighthouse play structure was doing on the park maps all these years. It was one of many family attractions that were apparently proposed for the area, including rope bridges, shaded seating areas, a small flume ride, a maze, and water play elements.

Can we hope that some of these ideas will find their way back into the current all-flat-ride version of Camp Snoopy?

The concept is actually fairly accurate to what is there now, with the major difference being the play structure and the flume in the concept being replaced by Woodstock's Express. I don't see major differences in the rest of it.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

In addition to the flats, this version of Camp Snoopy has a variety of non-ride attractions like the rope bridges, play structures, and the cute Woodstock-shaped water feature. I also would have liked the idea of relocating the Swan Boats to the lagoon alongside what is now Woodstock Express. This Camp Snoopy (or "Point Snoopy") just seems all around nicer with a pleasant environment and variety of attractions compared to the fairly plain Camp Snoopy we have now.

Absolutely agree. Even with the trees growing in, Camp Snoopy still has a sterile, dead feel to it. I'd dearly love to see some of that energy and activity incorporated into it somehow. You know, there's a reason Idlewild ranks so highly every year for it's kid's areas.

Idlewild is just about the most perfect park for young families we've found. I had always heard good things and we were blown away. It immediately became a tradition for us. While Cedar Point wouldn't quite be able to replicate what Idlewild is doing they could certainly take a few lessons on how to make attractions that truly cater to young families.

I'm hoping that with placemaking projects like Luminosity's Celebration Plaza going on at the park nowadays we might see some of these original ideas resurface at Camp Snoopy sometime in the future.

You know, I need to pay more attention to detail. Just noticed the second picture with the overhead view of the area, and the Swan Boats and bridges are pretty cool. Agreed, I wish it was built like that.

The paddle boats would be cool, and they could still be added. Especially now that the paddle boats are not on the lagoon!
And the drawing looks like Cedar Point but why are the blueprints labeled Knott's?

Now that I have a little guy, I realize the thing that's missing is something like Kid Arthur's Court. At Silverwood last summer, their small play structure was a big hit with Simon. Many of the zoos we've visited have similar things that are great for the little people.

Yes. Kid Arthur's Court. I remember being a little scared I would "drown" in the giant pool of balls you could jump into.

Now with two little ones, yes, having children has given me an entirely new perspective on parks like...and much different than...Cedar Point.

I had never seen this concept before, and I agree that it would be quite a significant difference to what is (I agree with Ensign) a rather sterile kids' section, relative to kids' sections elsewhere. It's like a project that had a good start, but was never quite "finished", and now I know exactly why I feel that way; it never was.

Sorta like that mountain for Snake River Falls. :)

The Snake River Falls mountain was another unfortunate "minus-ing" of an attraction. I remembering being glad that the roof and house on top made it though. I always wondered if they ever intended to build a three-dimensional sign like the logo with rocks and a real waterfall.

Don't forget about the coal chute and extra rock-work that wasn't on Maverick. Wasn't there supposed to be a heart line roll or something, too? :)

I think I like the idea of a Log Flume more than Woodstock Express.

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

I think I do too, although Woodstock's Express is a very good kid's coaster. Another thing I noticed was a ride called Huff N' Puff, seems like it would be a kid powered vehicle of some type. When I was a kid CP's Kiddieland had a single rider train car powered by a hand crank. I had lots of fun on that ride, too bad Huff N' Puff never made it, the ride probably would have been a big hit.

It seemed that with the current Camp Snoopy the aim was to get the Peanuts characters into the park as quickly and inexpensively as possible, so we were given several lightly themed flats (two of which aren't even vaguely themed to the Peanuts characters) and a Vekoma that never made it past being painted primer brown. This concept art shows that the management at the time made an active decision to not to give its audience the more elaborate and diverse children's area. They went for "good enough" instead. Hopefully with Ouimet and the newly empowered management team the park will no longer just settle. The loyal audience of Cedar Point, folks with a relationship to the park that spans decades, deserves more ambition and finesse than that. Here's to a brighter future.

If you dig far enough back I think that you'll find that there was a heartline originally During the testing phase the forces turned out to be more than expected and it was replaced with a "calmer" section of trackwork.

As far as the tipple, well that was a victim of budgetary issue.....
