Calling off work

Does management get all pissy when you want to take an occasional weekend or a whole week off for a family vacation or are they pretty understanding...

more specifically how does the lifeguard supervisors handle wanting to take a couple weekends off??

A couple days off will not be that hard to do in Soak City IF staffing is good. A week off probably wont happen but that does not mean you can't ask. I have seen it done. Most of the Supervisors are ok with it as long as staffing levels are fine. It is not as strict as other departments. So as long as you do it far enough in advance.

I think that you are actually supposed to arrange any vacation time and have it put on your contract before you arrive to work. That way you can be guaranteed the time off.

I have seen people been allowed to take a few days or even a week off, but that was in a case where the crew was very overstaffed and they were barely getting shifts anyway. You can always ask, but there won't be any kind of guarantee if you did not already have it put on your contract.

Believe me...from past experience...put any requests off in WRITING "before" you sign the physical contract!!

If you just want to 'chill out' for a few days- pick a few consecutive days and say "Previous pre-paid engagement". Simple as that.

Otherwise, depending on the department- you may have an issue.

So sit down and plan out your Summer well in advance. At CP, it's essential!! Plus, it's more professional.

Soak City/Challenge Park is usually a little more lenient than other departments, but like 99er said, it largely depends on staffing. Knowing well in advance and not springing it on them a few days ahead of time helps too.

Just don't take a few days off due to a "family emergency" and then get caught hanging out in the park riding rides. I've seen that happen on a couple occasions.

campfreak: I've seen that happen as well- way too many times! There are always "eyes and ears" hiding around the park that will report you for such behavior.

Scheduling always depends on staffing- and that is an ever changing situation. As I previously stated, (and I urge every employee): put any requests off in WRITING "before" you sign the physical contract!!

Be professional and plan your Summer well in advance.

Like the other people said, Soak city is more relaxed, however, if you didnt request a week off on your contract the chances of you getting THAT much time off is going to be very slim, unless your working the whole season.

and if u just dont come into work or you are late more then so much time, you will no longer have a job. No Department plays with people just not showing up.

You see, you are talking about two different things. You are talking about asking for a few days or a week off, and you also said "calling off". When I think of calling off, I am thinking about short term notice, which would not be a good idea if done too often. You know, I was looking through all the random things I saved when I worked at CP, and I even came across some of my things as far as hiring papers and such, and I asked for a day off and put "possible ct scan"... I can't even remember what that was about, I know I was healthy then, what the heck did I need a ct scan done for, lol! I only requested one day off while I was working there only a few days in advance, and that was for an appointment to get my braces tightened (ha ha) to where I had to drive back to Michigan just for that, what a pain! Other than that, I never requested any other days off. I guess I never thought of it, but I should have asked for the day off that my parents came to the park with the free passes I sent them. Aw man, kind of sad :(

If you acually look at what i posted you will see that i never wrote the words "Calling off" Im not an idiot i know to give them several weeks notice. I just didnt know if they were willing to give people time off for such things like a Week long camping trip to Colorado or a family trip to South Carolina.

That's really funny. Because when you consider the title of the thread, then I would say you mentioned calling off. Quite prominently actually.

CP brass has seen this thread, Kyle you are being watched....

What don't you understand?
Your boss, his boss, his boss, and his boss know that you are trying to skip work and called them all pissy.
Have a good summer
