Calling all sweeps!

Hello everyone! I was an employee last year as a lifeguard on west. I am thinking of coming back next season and was wondering if the job of a sweep is exciting. Do you like your job? Do you do alot of different kind of jobs? I read the description of the job on line on CP's main cite but I was just wondering if I could get some input from people who actually work the job. Thanks!

"Welcome back riders! How was your flight?"

If you love to walk, then Sweeping is the job for you. Is it exciting? No. Walking around for 8-12 hours a day gets old real fast, but it really can be made fun if you stay positive about it. It is a good way to keep in shape, and it is nice to not be stuck in the same spot all day long. You get to talk to a lot of guests, and the job itself is not difficult at all.

As for doing different kinds of jobs...basically you just walk around your assigned Zone and sweep...but there are special projects such as cleaning the garbage cans, benches, telephones, fountains, and fences. Sometimes you'll be asked to help out with cleaning the restrooms.

The best part of Sweeping is getting to hang out with your crew. Environmental Services in the best department in the park. I really think you would like being a sweep, and I would recommend it. If I talk about this anymore I will cry...Just make sure to request Zone 4 ;-)

How many zones are there, and where do they stretch between?

I was also thinking of being a sweep next summer.

is ttd in zone four or what?

I've got a disease, and the only prescription is more cowbell.

There are five sweep Zones. The following is just a general description.

Zone #5 covers the very front of the park, from the admission gates up to around the sky ride.

Zone #1 covers the main midway up to the other end of the sky ride.

Zone #2 covers the whole Wicked Twister/Kiddie Kingdom area on up to the Wildcat midway and the Corkscrew.

Zone #3 covers the area from about Power Tower on up to the train crossing by Gemini. (Therefore, TTD is in Zone 3)

Zone #4 covers all of Frontiertown and the Frontier Trail.

And confusingly enough, Gemini is in Zone 4, while Gemini Children's Area is in Zone 3.

Being a sweep is a very satisfying job. Well, it was for me. I was a sweep in Zone 4 (Railroad crossing by Mantis to the railroad crossing by Gemini at the end of Frontiertown) and I loved it.

If you like walking and talking to people, then sweeping is for you. Keep in mind though, you will be programmed for the rest of your life to pick up trash you see. I walked around my town and my eyes darted back and fourth on the ground searching for trash. That part will drive you insane.

I'd become a sweep. Walking 20 miles a day is healthy, you'll lose weight, and your legs will be pretty freakin' muscular. It's great.

I think I will probably be a sweep, can you request a certain zone?

Now tell me Cedar Point is running out of space.

Zone 4 is a cool zone. It's got the most shade of the entire park, but it is also the largest zone. It'll take a good twenty minutes to walk from one end to the other on crowded days (that is if you're sweeping the whole way). Zone 4 usually gets out of the park before every other zone, at closing or a little before.

Zone 3 is very crowded. Very. Top Thrill Dragster is there and when that thing runs, you can't move through people. It's nearly impossible with a broom and dustpan. You are usually out of the park 10-20 minutes after Zone 4.

Zone 2 is really long. The coolest part of this zone is the boardwalk by Breakers and the beach. There's a breeze there so it feels good to walk by. They also cover Kiddy Kingdom and the Coral Courtyard. Zone 2 is out after closing and they help take care of the Summer Spectacular. That takes some cleaning up.

Zone 1 is pretty much the stretch the Sky Ride covers and the Blue Streak area. Not much shade, crowded, and they are out of there a while after the park closes.

Zone 5 is a small zone. They cover Midway Market, Disaster Transport, the games area by Kiddy Kingdom, and the entrance to the park. They have to be in the park before every other zone and they are usually out of there thirty minutes after the park closes. They get more hours, but it may be more stressful working there. They also cover the Point Pavillion and the other picnic area (the name escapes me).

Environmental Services knows who I am!

Now... I see sweeps Test Riding Dragster, where do they come from?

And if anyone has done both which is better, sweep or ride op?

"C'mon, get off the rails guys, listen to the guy with the Disaster Transport uniform on!"

Early in the morning they sometimes have other park employees test in the morning. I heard that from a sweep on another site.

I was wondering because when I was waiting for Dragster (4 hours) They first tested with sweeps (4 consecutive rides, get on, get offf, walk to load 1, launch, get off, walk to load 1, etc....), then when the Ride was back up 4 hours later, sweeps were lining up on the platform to ride, but they sent them back down, and never opened the coaster.
