Cable Break (Again)

I understand TTD lost anther cable. At what point will they re-evaluate their choice of cables and select a better cable?

Wait, what? The cable broke again today? I was there until like 1 and I rode TTD once in front in the morning. And I didn't see it run for a looooong time for the rest of the time I was there. *** Edited 8/17/2004 2:01:58 AM UTC by DubbSlaw3***

The cable broke again! Man, I just don't understand anymore. Like you said, they should get a different kind of cable or something. Maybe replace it more regularly, idk.

Well, whats new the cable broke again. Cedar Point does need to do something about that ride and the cables they use on it. It's a good ride and it sucks that its always down for one reason or another.

When did this happen?

Did anyone get hurt?

Ill tell you what. Im sick of ttd being down. Ive been there 3 times since the opening of ttd. Every time I go its down. But luckly I get 3 freeway passes for it next time i go because of a conversation I had with monty jasper. Anyway one of the engineers who designed the ride made a mistake in one of there calculations. O well small miscalculation = a lot of down time. I am still very excited to ride it for the first time. (if its every open) I wonder if the guy who made the mistake in figuring out if the cable could hold up still has his job? hmmm. Beside the fact. Cedar Point will always be the best ammusement park in the world.

Well they seem to have cables at hand...its not like they have to order them. They will have it running within the next 24 hours

I was just wondering, how many does it make know, 3 or 4 or 5. It is a alsome ride when its open put a pain when your on the ramp or in the station and it goes down for 2 hours. I would have waited a sweet sort time in line of like 35 min's, from the hotel pass in the morning.

Someone posted a break on CoasterBuzz days ago. I'm surprised we didn't get a play-by-play Web cam account here.

What they really need to do is think of another way to keep this cable from breaking. The good thing was that they didn't wait until it injured someone before they closed it. Its a shame though that its gone through 1 cable every month. They should think of another method without using cable.

Maybe they can talk the trains into spontaneously accelerating ;)

The cable broke on either Friday or Saturday (I can't remember which). Somebody made a note on here in a thread that's now closed about seeing a small crane on the webcam after it happened. *** Edited 8/17/2004 6:02:58 AM UTC by Ralph Wiggum***

JohnboyI don't think anyone got hurt this time but i am not sure.

I'm guessing since the ride is open today that no one was hurt. Or else CP wouldn't open the ride right away. If I'm not mistaken, the ride is designed for that if the cable snaps it shouldn't be in the way of the train.

I think you're just very unlucky on the days you go to CP. I've been there 6 times since the ride opened and TTD has been open 5 out of the 6 times I went.

This is insane. You think with all this technology today, they can't even prevent a cable from breaking for several days...this is so sad. They better get their act together by september, cause it's probably the last time I am going for the year. (I only went once in June). If this cable keeps breaking, maybe they should find an alternative instead of a cable to launch the train up there, (although I doubt this is possible). Shawn, I just realized now I just said the same thing you did about an alternative to the cable. LOL.

I was in the park saturday when the cable broke and here is what happened:

the cable broke early saturday morning, between 10-11 , i was in line for MF when it happened. i saw them bring in a new cable in the afternoon, and my parents saw them stringing it on to the track. We (my freinds and i) got off magnum at 10:20 P.M., and saw it launch it's first test run since if broke down in the morning. we ran in line, and they began launching people at 11:00 P.M. They launched 2 trains, both made it over, then the third train tried to launch, but went about 10 feet and stopped. they then shut down the ride for another hour, and tested it again at midnight. The two test trains didn't make it over the hill, but they loaded the third one with people and it made it over. (I found it odd that they would load a train w/ ppl if the first two tests didn't make it over) It ran fine after that. I got on the ride at 12:30 A.M. after everyone rode it, it closed down at about 12:40.

Wow, another cable break? Yeah, they might have other cables ready, but this cannot be cost effective. There has to be a sturdier cable then what they are using. It may cost more, but wouldn't it be worth it if they lasted longer?

Wow, I was there on Saturday and I saw them installing it in the afternoon, but I had no idea they opened back up around 11, I was gone about 10:30.

Top Thrill Dragster is NEW TECHNOLOGY. Sure, cables arent new technology but they are being placed on TTD. It WILL take a few years to Debug Dragster. I hate when people rant on about how annoying this is getting. Cedar Point wanted something new, thats what they got. I say, the day YOU can fix it, is the day you can complain about it.
