cabin questions

My family and I are staying at the cabins 7/22 thru 7/28, and need some answers. Does the store at Lighthouse Point sell any food that can be cooked on the grills or would it be best to purchase food outside the park? Is there any grocery stores or the like close by? We would like to take advandage of the grill if possible. I've read that the refigs. are dorm size so we can't overload them , but just a few things would do.

Thanks for any help

they dont sell real food, just like snacks and beer and such. There is a grocery store in sandusky i know of cause i passed it by all the gas stations on route 6. The fridge is very small, i recomend taking a large cooler.

You'd be better off getting anything you can remember to get at a grocery store off point and using the camp store for forgotten items. They have the typical markup that you would expect and as such the stuff is cheaper elsewhere.

And I know its a long drive from Philly (guessing that's where you're coming from based on your screen name) but you should be able to pick stuff up at home and throw it in a cooler for the drive. Either that, or there is a Meijers out on Cleveland Rd.

The Camp Store has hot dogs and buns. That will get you through 1 meal.

They have many other things, too, but Jugga is right...It would be less expensive elsewhere.

We always stop at Meijer for perishables.

It's an 8+ hour ride straight to CP, but it's worth every minute. This year we decided to do the football hame of fame for a couple of days. A big thanks for all the info.

The "Football Hame of Fame"? Quick, someone look up the definition of HAME.

I looked it up:

According to Webster "Hame" is a Socttish variation of "Home."

I would think that one could accurately describe the "Football Hall of Fame" as the "Football Home of Fame" though that is not the proper name. Likewise one could call it the "Football Hame of Fame" and still provide and accurate, if odd description of the place.

What days were you planning on visiting the HOF? That is the weekend for HOF kickoff events ( 2007 enshrinement), so plan on some serious traffic & try to book a room immediatly. It is the best weekend in our town for stuff to do/see though: the Balloon International (hot air balloons galore), fireworks (twice), ribs burnoff (Pat Benatar to headline this year) to name a few events, before the big Monday night HOF game.

If you want to know local restaurants worth trying PM me & I'll give you a list. Welcome in advance to the sports fanatic capitol of the world. (Case in point, my son now has this Friday off just because the basketball team is going to state finals. Good Grief...)

We're arriving Friday July20th late in the day. We've already booked a hotel for 2 nights. We are spending all of Sat. at the hall of fame, then leaving Sun. morning. A question I have is , since we can't check in at CP til after 4PM we were going to Cleveland to visit the rock and roll hall of fame for the day Sunday, then head to CP later in the day. Can you give me some drive times, and does this sound like it would work out for us? We would rather arrive later than 4:00 ,maybe 7 or 8PM, to avoid the lines at check-in at that time. Thanks.

HOF events start the 27th, so if you are coming the beginning of yur week, you will miss the festivities (& the traffic). You will only need 2-3 hrs to see the HOF Museum. You can then visit the Science Museum & the McKinley Monument, then on to Harry Londons Chocolate Factory. If you still have time, drive 20 min. to the Hartville Kitchen for some great fried chicken or roast beef, homemade mash pot & breads. (Actually, I recommend skipping the Science Museum to make it for dinner, I think they close at 8:00)

You could go to Cleveland for the Rock Hall, or you could try for early check in at CP. We always check in early to the Breakers to enjoy the hotel before the park. I'm not sure though if Lighthouse Point has that. If your sure you want to go the the Rock Hall though, it takes about 1.5 hr from my door to there & I live a few min. from the HOF. Constuction can be an issue, so give yourself an extra hr at least to get there. (Remember Ohio's 2 seasons: winter & construction :) )

Lighthouse Point has early check In if the cabin/cottage has be cleaned.

I hate to disagree with you Mr Scott, but last year when i tryed to check in to my cabin at 2 pm, it was cleaned and all and they still would not let me check in or let me access it,and this was in early may, i wasnt a happy camper.

That seems to be an unfortunate exception. It seems, in most cases, that if the room is available (empty of guests & clean), they'll let you check in.

Regardless, I hear there is a park not far from LHP that has some carnival-type rides and other such things. You could always head over there to kill some time. ;)
