Okay, I just have to share this. I was at BW3 late in the evening last week, when I heard some of the waiters talking about Cedar Point employees. They were going on and on about how they hate them, they wish they wouldn't go there and they don't tip enough. This just really made me upset, especially since I go there in the summer a lot with my CP friends.

You should have told them the employees don't tip enough because the service in the summer there sucks. Maybe if they would pay attention to the tables of employees they would get better tips.

Yeah I've had some serious problems there before. Ive literally left there crying because I was treated so bad.
During my times there, I never had any issues with the service. And normally was taken care of pretty well, including a comped drink or two. Granted I know I tip more than most that I was around. But that comes from growing up in the service industry and knowing it's a give first and take later type of thing. When people order sometimes seriously discounted drinks and or food, then tip with the good ole percentage theory, you deserve bad service. Just because the stuff is on special doesn't mean it takes any less time to make and deliver.
The same thing went for louie's. I never had any troubles getting a good and tasty drink fast. Screw the line at the service bar. Reputations for bad service actually are normally earned by the customer who treats the hard working person without any respect and expects to waited on every request. When a bar is slammed, Reputations are what will get you the service you want. Because as long as the register continues ringing, the owners could care less.
Plus CP employees tend to pregame heavily and tend to loiter at times. Teams will take up large amounts of space to just hang. Instead of patronizing the establishment they are in. All of which is again a servers nightmare and will result in bad service. Because they have to sift through the non spenders to find someone who's actually a customer.
So I offer this, try and over tip for awhile, and you will notice they will come to you before you even need the drink. They will know your name and anything you like. And while it will cost you to begin with, comps and quick service will make you a hero with your friends during busy times. Which resulted in me getting free drinks from friends also! You have to play the game.

I've worked in the service industry as well but I dont believe you should treat people worse because you dont expect to get a great tip from them.
I pretty regularly over tip but the service at the BW3s any time I'm in uniform is rarely worth 10%

Your reading into my statement wrong, Nobody ever should treat anyone worse. But a known regular, nice and understanding patron will always get better service than others who act and think they are the only one there. I was also stating I never had a problem with the service there, in fact loved it. And I think it had a ton to do with my tipping. Same reason I dont have to wait in line outside the club in Chicago.
But have seen friends of MINE, order 15, .25 wings of course 5 of each flavor, and a couple $2 beers and tip a buck. Which in my opinion is wrong. But to each, their own. I currently work in a tourist driven restaurant bar, and the wait staff cringes when a large international group walks in and is sat in their section. Because 8 of 10 times they don't leave a cent. Which costs the server money because of mandatory tip out.

In my mind you have to earn your tip. I agree with a lot of the current employees who have commented in this thread. If you're going to treat me different because I'm wearing the Cedar Point uniform and judge me based on other employees then that's your call. But when you treat me like crap because of it and my glass goes empty for 30min don't blame me when I don't tip as much as I normally would.
It take a lot for me to start tipping less. But if I get great service, I don't think twice about tipping more.
I have rarely ever had good service at the Sandusky BDubs and I used to go 1-2 times a week with my crew 07-09 and occasionally last year as well. The only time I ever got consistently good service was in 08 from a server who told us he had worked at Cedar Point before. We requested him every time and always tipped appropriately. I think he quit after that season as I had not seen him there since and went back to the terrible service.
If the wings weren't so good and we didn't have a discount, I probably would not have visited the place so much. There were a few times when I complained to the manager and received a free meal... CP employee or not, there was never a good reason for such terrible service - it's not like being a Cedar Point employee necessarily labels one as a poor, bad tipper.
I have better service there out of uniform then in. And when I get treated better, I tip better...simple.
The WORST place in Sandusky for service though is Steak and Shake. I hate that place so much. Took over an hour for food, and we didn't even get our drinks.
Sandusky restaurants in general seem to have mediocre to poor service. Only place I've never had terrible service from is Chet and Matt's. They're always on the ball.
The Bdubs is pretty terrible most of the time. I did notice the service was usually worse when you were with people in uniform or otherwise blatantly showing that you worked at the park, but I've had plenty of bad service out of uniform and even off-season. The most infuriating experience was on a Halloweekends Saturday night when they had a 2 AM closing time. We got there at 1 and immediately put in drink orders from the bar. At 1:15 they made last call (why on earth it's so early I don't understand, but whatever). At 1:20 our waiter came back and said he couldn't get our drinks because it was past last call. Maybe if he didn't take 20 minutes getting drinks when the place was mostly empty we wouldn't have had an issue. On top of that, the guy actually had the nerve to follow us to the parking lot and scream insults at us for not leaving him a tip.
I have no doubt that CP employees generally tip poorly (it just happens when you're living on that budget) but that's still no excuse for the poor service so many of these places in town give. I also have the mindset that I'll tip well for good service, but Sandusky restaurants tend to not lighten my wallet very much in that regard.
For what it's worth, since we're on the topic, a friend of mine already working at the park claims Bdubs has done away with their 10% CP employee discount for this summer.
The best restaurant service I ever got, was at the Sandusky BDubs, from a server named Rich, who worked at CP. We would usually go once or twice a week, and he would always go out of his way to make sure we were in his section. He knew us by name, knew what we were going to order before we sat down, and had our drinks ready to go before he seated us. As a result, he got a lot of our money...that would probably explain why he put so much effort out though. I'll be really sad if the discount's gone, that was nice, but it probably won't stop me from going...

Well you may keep going and that's fine. But I know a lot of people who try to save as much as they can over the summer and there for only go a few times a month. You can bet that if they take that discount away then we'll probably try to find some place cheaper to go and probably visit a lot less often.
I completely agree on service and tipping in the bars. At louies I completely agree many of the people in the bar have already pregamed especially on busy nights. I honestly couldn't agree with this anymore, however the restauants in Sandusky can be absolutly terrible. My biggest problem is when they see a group of let's say 5-6 or more CP employees they force you to tip 18% at most places (might be group size of 8 i'm not sure), and the servers are just terrible and ignore you for up to 30 minutes at a time. With that being said when that happens to me next time i go in there with a small group say 2 or 3 there is no way i'm leaving the same server anything or any server for that matter and it's mean to take it out on them, but didn't the restaurant do that to me the first time. I realize waiting on large groups is not an easy tast especially with everyone wanting to split the bill, however delibertly ignoring a table for several minutes is not exceptable. Every restaruant complains about Cedar Point employees but yet a lot of those restaurants open only for CP season or increase staffing because of the seasonal employees in town so they need to get overthemselves and give the CP employees at least decent service and i guarentee they will get tips. Now there are certainly some exceptions to that but that happens with anything.

I found that once the bar tenders learned that I tipped decently (or tipped at all for that matter) I usually didn't have any problems getting served quickly at Louie's except for the craziest of busy nights.
As for the 10% discount, is it really that big of a deal? It was never valid on wing night specials, which was usually when I went anyway. For most meals on their menu it would only save you about $1 at most.
For me and other thrifty employees then yea that 10% is a big deal. Especially when you're taking your significant other out to eat. If you visit more than once that $1 adds up pretty quickly for those who want to have the most amount of money left over at the end of the summer.
I was usually out of uniform whenever I went to Bdubs, so I can't comment on their service. If it's that big a deal to some people, just remember that they do carry-out.

"Sandusky restaurants in general seem to have mediocre to poor service".
As someone who works in the guest service industry, I am still shocked by how poor the overall service is at most area restaurants. This is a tourism driven town. The majority of my experiences have been largely negative.
Ruby Tuesdays at the mall is a PERFECT example. So horrible that I e-mailed a letter of complaint to the corporate office who in turn sent me a certificate for a free meal. I returned hesitantly months later to give them a 2nd chance, and when I handed them the certificate- if you would have heard the response- it was outrageous and beyond unprofessional.
The fast food industry in town is simply SLOW and/or unprofessional...no matter what time of year. Each experience seriously seems like something that is begging for a sketch on "MadTV" or "SNL". The service at Burger King on 250 in March? I was mad, but it was also so unreal that my friend and I had tears in our eyes laughing.
Sandusky's food service industry is definitely an alternate reality.
PointBeerWI, what time were you at Steak 'n Shake? I've been there after the park closes, and they get slammed pretty hard. One of the servers there told me that corporate sets a certain amount of staff across the board, which means that a store in Podunk, IA would have the same amount of staff as the store in Sandusky at night, regardless of how busy or not busy they get. Of course, if the server was outright rude, then that's another story.
A lot of folks who live in Sandusky year-round seem to have a grudge against CP in general and CP employees specifically. Anytime an article about CP is posted on the local newspaper's website, there will always be at least one comment about "those drunk employees" as if we were a yearly six month plague that they just have to deal with.
