I'm disappointed that they changed the dates, but I can see why they did it. I actually have a good friend who's wife and sister really want to go to Coastermania, and after talking to him from Thanksgiving to Christmas about things, I convinced him to go almost solely due to the fact that Brew & BBQ has happened in tandem with Coastermania in years past. He isn't a very big amusement park person, yet.
Hopefully he doesn't use this as a reason to back out of going. Its taken me, another friend, and his wife almost 6 months to convince him to ride one thing when we go, which will be dragster with any luck.
Yes, you can use all your tickets for food if you want. While I haven't personally done Brew & BBQ yet, I believe that if you focus all your tickets into food, you'll get enough to last you between one and two full meals. This makes it a better value than just getting a standard meal deal for the day, as well as offering a wide selection of higher quality BBQ than what you normally get at the park.
I do not drink beer, some cider's but I'm not a fan of beer. That said.
Last season my brother and I split our tickets on the food. It was enough to fill us both up. We used our drink plan for Cokes while we ate.
For $20 (passholder & online price last year) it's well worth it in my opinion for the food alone.
Also, Brew Kettle (could be wrong) which is the brewery that has made the special CP beers the last few years was giving Platinum Pass holders 1 free 12oz sample. You got a special ticket when you got your other tickets. So even if you're not a big drinker but you still want a beer there is that, as long as they offer that this season of course.
I am considering taking the expected future son-in-law (visiting from Florida in June) to Brew & BBQ while my wife and daughters are at another girls only event. If we do this, I suppose the most $ sense would be to buy him a Bring A Friend discounted admission ticket with my platinum pass for $30 and then a non passholder Brew & BBQ ticket for $25 + my own Brew BBQ ticket individually.
Now I just need to clear it with daughter (just in case she wants to be there too/instead on a different day when she is available).

So I guess that was based on misinformation! It has been several years since I used the Bring a Friend feature and I was a bit off on the price. I think $30 may have been the Cedar Point Shores ticket pricing. It turned out to be cheaper to buy the Brew BBQ combo ticket and forego the Bring a Friend discount.
